I think viewer awareness was also a factor in their low ratings. When Motors went to channel 71 Motors should have put out some adverts on commercial radio. Channel 4 did that recently to promote their F1 coverage. Viewers were unaware of the channels, and unaware of what equipment they needed to receive the channels.

Now you've got a situation where some people have bought new TV equipment just to receive Motors, and Motors have pulled the channels. I feel really sorry for them.
I was thinking the same about the people who have bought the kit to get the channel. I think a large amount of people interested in the channel knew that it existed, maybe a few casuals they missed out on. The problem was that they never seemed to know what they would get to broadcast, which I guess makes it harder to promote.

Who knows what the future will hold. Maybe they will return in some form. I get the feeling this isnt quite then end yet, however it could be interesting to see what some of the sports packages that use Motors as an outlet do next as well.

Last week their person on Twitter didn't know they had live WEC coverage for this year and initially tweeted that they only had race highlights. They had to send out another tweet that they did have live coverage for 2016 the following day.

I wonder if they didn't know or they did a last minute deal to get the package on the channel? Suspect a lot of the channel is last minute at moment.

Contracts are traditionally multi-year for the commercial benefit of the series promoter.

I can't see them signing multi year contracts. I suspect they work year to year on many rights.

Remember they tend to be the smaller rights packages and I suspect much of the content is filmed by the series and not them. All they do is broadcast and give it exposure.

Multi-year contracts mean that series promoters have guaranteed coverage for x years, so they can get long term series sponsors and help bring in new teams to their series.

There's European Formula 3 at Paul Ricard, (France) today and tomorrow. Hopefully the video steam isn't geo-blocked. http://www.fiaf3europe.com/live/ Race times advertised may be CET.

I'm now watching the 24h Series Creventic race on TV. Using the Livestream app on my Roku box. The stream picture quality is better than Motors ch. 240 and no ad breaks either.

It would be great if Motors TV had a stream, even better if it was a YouTube channel as that quality is very good and works on most devices.

I had a quick look at some of the BATB stats for Motors and other channels today.

It's not good for motors when your getting lower figures than Heart TV! Compared to Vintage TV (another IP channel) no where near their figures. So maybe this highlights how poor the channel is when it lacks the live content that pulls in the viewers.

I guess they will need to look to some subs model really to survive and get some decent rights and coverage. Maybe this will be the future model we see developed?
They were subscription until Sky kicked them out of the Sub Club a few years ago. I suppose they could go standalone, but I doubt that would work.

Still broadcasting FTV on satellite - Sky EPG 447 - requires FreesatFromSky or subscription (live or cancelled) viewing card. Looks as though the costs for Freeview were too high for them.

I know, I don't get why they wouldn't gonon FTA in the clear on a UK spot. That would at least enable them to open up to more potential viewers, even if they didn't actually pay as such to be on the Freesat EPG. Their viewera do seem more willing to chase whatever method they use if they are free.

Could be a good move if they have smart tv apps that actually work and they have a good mix of live and VoD.

It's a shame to see it go as it is, but Motors should have looked at this method before as a way to survive and grow without the costs.

There seems to be a change of heart "linear broadcasting will continue" the new owners have said: http://www.a516digital.com/2016/11/n...onfirm-uk.html

I wonder what that all means in English for the UK? I suspect it's going HD on Sky and sadly we won't be getting it on Freeview ... hopefully wrong as it's a decent channel.
