I'd love to find the confidence to have a go at Landscape artist, which is coming back again this year, together with Portraits apparently, but I'll keep any interior design experiments safely contained in my own lounge!
![]() Oh do give it a go Nesta! What have you got to lose? If you don't get chosen, then who cares? But if you did it would be a really exciting experience! I was wondering about Portrait Painter, but I've left it too late I think. My last suitable work is over 5 years ago so I would have to do some others, and I'm not up to that yet!

So, how many of us are going to apply for the next series?
Going by the comments made on here, I would trust any poster, rather than the two finalists I felt I was on the same wavelength as the contributers to this thread! As to the results, I was underwhelmed, and think from all the heats, not sure if they were the right two for the final really. Great programme though, and a great thread |

Ohhhh, we could form an underground decorating team, righting the wrongs carried out by interior design programmes unleashed on the unsuspecting public, sort of like The A Team, but wielding paint brushes and wallpaper instead of machine guns and loopy helicopter pilots
![]() The result was expected despite all of the 'drama' but I was disappointed with the overall outcomes of the rooms. I had expected there to be some improvement from the first week but it was still all so amateurish. |

Frankie is the only person I'd want to work with from the final 3. He should have been in the final instead of the irritating voiced woman.

Still, as soon as Kelly H (how is she so successful when she has no warmth?) made her comments, Sarah was home and dry. I really enjoyed the series. |

Both Frankie and Lucy listened to the brief. Sarah just did her own thing and as creative as that was, I'd be too scared to commission her as I wouldn't have confidence that I'd like the outcome.

So disappointed in the series this year. Too many of the contestants saw it as a competition with the homeowner to disregard their wishes/original brief, makes you wonder how easy it will be for the programme to recruit homeowners next year? Clearly the judges haven't had any training in judging / assessing / giving constructive feedback. They are so contrary, one minute saying something negative and the next saying how wonderful it is.
Anyone know who pays the contestants? They have £1000 in the earlier rounds, is it the homeowner? |

Why do the interior designers feel that they have to beat down the homeowner and impose their own (often crackpot) ideas on them? And then, as you say, ignore their brief and go off and do something entirely different (which is actually an insult)? ![]() I know one thing - I shall never take on an interior designer (unless I can find one who does exactly as I say!)...

Exactly what I was thinking - it's the worst form of customer service! But the judges don't help - they keep saying that schemes weren't different or edgy enough, or didn't have the wow factor - the lady in the stately home apartment didn't WANT the wow factor, she wanted what she wanted! After that first session with Sarah and her 'orrible oranges, I'd have slung her out on her ear, as we plainly wouldn't have been suited.

I can't see what other FMs saw in Frankie - yes his sewing skills were brilliant, but his colours and furniture design/makeovers were dire and amateurish I thought. I didn't like any of Sarah's rooms, especially her masculine bedroom and her kitchen. I did like some of Anne's mad ideas though and it was a shame she took too long over details to finish sometimes. I also liked the girl with the mad hair in week 3(?) but she went out early. I never seem to agree with any of the judges on these "Britain's Best" programmes. (especially the landscape series which made me spit nails!) |

Lucy listened to the brief, but all her rooms looked like an explosion in a victorian junk shop (e.g. the wall of heads, or bird textile hanging over bird wallpaper!). Sarah didn't listen to the brief at all, and just wanted to play with bold colours, never mind what the customer wanted. Some of her designs had the wow factor, but that isn't much good if the customer just wanted a room they could live in. |

I agree with your first paragraph, but as regards your second - surely that would be just an interior decorator as opposed to a designer? The point of a designer is to come up with ideas you never would have - otherwise you're paying good money for skills you're not using.
I suppose what I mean is a bit like the lady in the stately home apartment - she specified wine/burgundy and asked for a classical elegant look (but she didn't get it!). If I asked for that and I wasn't shown it (or anything like it), I'd just think, "Why bother? She's clearly not into my taste, and is now trying to put me off and force her batty ideas on me. I'll find someone else, thanks!" Unlike a decorator, a designer will go off and source relevant materials that match up with the chosen scheme - that's a big plus. (I know how hard it is - I've been looking for a really simple striped wallpaper for 10 years and still not found the right one!)

I personally think Jamie should have made the final I liked all his rooms and he pushed the clients without brow beating them .I'm sure Sarah is a lovely person out of the design realm but if anyone tried to force me to have green paint in my house they would be leaving said house wearing a green paint pot on their head

I think all men and all women heats and then the best 2 from each would make better tv.
I didn't think the men were given a fair crack and found their designs more exciting personally. |

Did anyone see the room makeover Sophie did on This Morning a few days ago. A horrendous mismatch of twee pinks and pastels, complete with bird printed fabric on the chair.

Love this prog. I didn' t like the inclusion of the big name designers though. Especially Kelly Hoppen who was far too full on and aggressive. She just came and bulldozed her way through at the end.
