Anyone know when the new station is starting?

According to George Galloways twitter feed he has secured the return of the mother of all talk shows on a " new national station" He refuses to say which station.

I assume its talkradio.

He was on Talksport for about six years before it went 24 hour sports.

No official date yet but widely expected around about 1st March
I can't wait myself
Talksport 2 will be the first to begin on D2 that has already been announced
All the other digital 2 stations are supposed to be launching the same day
There have been some D2 test transmissions
But regular trade tests are due in about another week
Don't know about George but wouldn't be too surprised if he rocked up on there
Another name widely expected is Iain Lee who tweeted about starting a new broadcast job a few weeks ago and then deleted the tweet
Don't know whereabouts you are but there's a list of transmitters carrying the services on the D2 thread
Be aware not everywhere will be covered and even if you are your transmitter may not be switched on by launch day
Hope that's of some help to you

I'm looking forward to this, but I have pretty low expectations. Iain Lee is a superb broadcaster so his show will always be worth a listen but I'm not convinced that a DAB only station will have enough listeners/callers to make it all that good. I can see it being the same few callers time and time again, fine if they are interesting and have something to add but...

Talk radio was part of the previous D2 bid, but with DAB and online listening increasing, especially in cars, the risk is minimised.

According to radiotoday.co.uk : http://radiotoday.co.uk/2016/01/date...f-talksport-2/

The first radio station to announce its launch date on the new national digital radio multiplex is talkSPORT 2.

Test transmissions for the Sound Digital DAB platform have already started in various parts of the UK, and tests are expected to be fully operational by February 15th.

talkSPORT 2 has timed its launch date to coincide with the opening day of The Cheltenham Festival, from the festival itself, on Tuesday 15th March 2016.

The rest of the stations planned for the SDL National multiplex are expected to launch together to benefit from a national publicity campaign. In the original application, Sound Digital said all stations will launch at the same time with the exception of those proposed by UTV, which may take longer to prepare, or launch according to sporting schedules.

Tommy will be a very welcome addition to the schedule but if he is involved he's keeping it quiet I think

Surprised TalkSport 2 isn't launching a day earlier to coincide with the anniversary of the launch as Talk Radio UK

Believe it's launching earlier than the others due to sporting fixtures
Possibly had there been anything to cover the day before they might have opened on the anniversary itself
You never know as full trade test transmissions should be ongoing by then they might possibly commemorate it in some way
We can live in hope

Based on things that Iain Lee keeps posting on social media (and then often deleting!) I think we can expect some sort of announcement next Monday (8 Feb) and then a launch on or by 21 March.

Nah, he's too stubborn. He has burnt all his bridges.

I think people on here are living in dream land if they think the new Talkradio will have the same format that lets face it didn't have great listener numbers as the old Talkradio.
I would have a guess the format will be closer to the current LBC format that for all the moaning does work .

From heavy hints they've dropped it is supposedly lighter in tone than LBC
It's to hoped so as I don't know about anybody else on the thread but I find that the constant diet of politics and health issues on LBC to be tedious boring and above all depressing

what hints? the only rumour I've heard about presenting line-ups is Iain Lee (definetely hoping it is true). I hope you are right Paul as I think there is a place for both styles of talk radio, heavy topics and more lighter conversation, but the other poster is right, LBC whether you like it or not is more successful now than it was when it was more light hearted.

They've said that they are proud to be increasing the range of talk radio programming in the uk
With the appointment of Iain who isn't known for his coverage of heavy subjects (though he can do then )
And George Galloway(who isn't ) I'd be assuming they aren't going as heavy as LBC
They'll have done their research on this pretty extensively and as they have already got the second Talksport station ready will no doubt have some surprises for us

sorry Paul, while I hope you are right, your assumptions seem to be more based on wishful thinking than on what might actually happen. Yes, Iain is a lighter presenter but GG is certainly in the LBC mould of presenting (though obviously his politics are different to the majority of LBC presenters). You say they'll have done their research, if they have, they'll see that LBC has more listeners than it has ever had before, suggesting that although it may not be to our taste, it is doing a lot right. I take 'widening the varity' to simply mean that there will be the new station available rather than any particularly different style of station. Don't get me wrong, I very much hope your asumptions prove to be correct but I'm gonna wait and see...

I largely agree, but LBC do what they do excellently so there may be a need for talkRADIO to offer something a bit different, especially for night time listeners. Time will tell I guess.
