James Max sounding good this morning at Breakfast, much better than listening to the dreary Iain Dale on LBC.

James Max should become a permanent figure on Talk Radio ideally taking over drive.

Then introduce James Whale and the station will be great. Oh and get rid of the 0844 number to encourage more callers.

James is houding much better on breakfast than Paul Ross, plus he's just had a caller on. Thats the first time I've ever heard a call on breakfast. As ive said before i just don't feel that Paul Ross has any structure and as a result he's weak, James is much more structured and as a result people want to get involved as they can actually follow what he's talking about.

Why does TalkRadio insist on using an 0844 number. Even myself, with free 0845, 0870 numbers on BT's Anytime call tariff would get charged for using an 0844 number. I just don't get it unless the station is trying to discourage too many callers.
Why LBC ever got rid of James Max defies common sense.

I agree... I just feel he has more warmth and friendliness it seems that the newsreader is much more relaxed with James than she is with Paul Ross. In fact there was another female with a Northern accent on this morning it and it was great listening to her, James and the newsreader all chatting together it blended really well.

Paul Ross should remain on TalkRadio but breakfast isn't right for him.

JHB is perfect for the 10am show as it seems many listeners move from LBC at that time who don't agree with the liberal champagne drinking James O'Brien. The only person that would be even more perfect for this spot is Katie Hopkins is she ever got fired from LBC.

It's utter madness! I simply cannot get my head around it, yet they still haven't backed down, I mean how do they expect a talk radio station to be successful without callers

I noticed James Max giving out the number desperately and using the Iain Lee tagline 'We'll call you back'

I just imagine one day tuning in and hearing the presenter say 'We've changed our number to 0345 ++++++++

The 2 Mikes had nightclub owner Peter Stringfellow in the studio yesterday and I quite enjoyed the interview. He talks about his clubs, women, gangsters gunning in his windows, politics and Brexit.

I find it's quite easy if you break it down into its component parts.

James Max was extremely poor in the last year of his BBC London radio show. It was like a communal lounge of people saying random words rather than any conversation or point.

Did he not say he preferred the reduction of his BBC London slot to one morning because it fitted in with his day job when it was scaled back?

I always thought TalkRadio was like Talksport... in that it would be more a "listen to conversation" (so host with guests) rather than a phone in radio station... and like TalkSport it would take calls at some points of the day....

and if talkradio had a free phone (or a number included in people's phone plans) number then they would need to roll that out to their other stations... and the cashcow talksport losing its pay phone and pay text numbers might not be worth the brand extension

And if the old DAB breaks down, you always have FOX news and The Express to help keep up to date.

Yesterday, Ginger Producer Dave made a rare appearance on the show, despite nominally being the show's producer since it started on 21 March. When Jon introduces the team at the start of each show, he normally starts by saying "Ginger Dave is not producing", followed by some outrageous slur on Dave's character, usually involving sexual activity with a student.

So Jon made a fuss of him, as if he was a special guest. For example, by letting him read out the Headline Hijack entries. When his attendance was more usual several months ago, Dave and Cornelius used to take turns reading them out so it was really back to normality rather than being something special.

One of the entries for Headline Hijack was from someone called Nigel from Maidstone, which made the threesome laugh heartily. Were they laughing because they thought it might have been the famous Nigel from Maidstone who calls Iain and many past presenters on talkSPORT?

Could this really have come from Nigel, based on what we know about his personality through his calls?

Have a listen and see what you think.

They can't be making much currently on the 0844 as on average a 3 hour show gets between 0-3 calls. So I would expect the rental part with the phone operator would be costing more. It could be that TalkRadio are in contract with the 0844 for say 12 months or something. What I do know is TalkRadio cannot currently compete with other talk stations at the rate it's going, TalkRadio would be a much better listen and would increase listeners if they had more callers. It's the callers who make talk based stations not professionals been interviewed.

I feel sorry for the presenters because they sound desperate for people to ring in, I've been temped many times and I pay a good rate on my mobile line rental for the 'free unlimited' calls so for that reason I'm not prepared to add even more money to my mobile bill.

Why not offer Steve Allen a job as he can talk the hind legs off a Donkey for hour after hour without really saying anything remotely sensible. He'd help pad out the day and he doesn't 'do' calls.

Why would he want to leave LBC for TalkRadio?

Would that be the Steve Allen lauded by the rest of the radio industry? He's the only non BBC radio presenter featured regularly in Radio Times and wins awards and has had his contract renewed by Global.

Indeed. Just show what standards are set nowadays.

It's funny you should say that I've wondered that myself if it's the plan. I saw an old interview when Moz Dee took over talkSPORT talking about Mike Parry leaving and he said that talkSPORT used to be known as the station where white van man phones up and rants but now its changed and the stations remit is to get experts on and people who know there stuff on the subject with only the odd phone call. He said this brought in a lot better audience that contained a lot more ABC 1 listeners.

Quote:
““I hate it when people say talkSPORT is just an endless stream of phone-ins. It’s not. It is about content and — I’m not ashamed of using this word — journalism. Let’s break a few stories. Let’s not talk about Harry Redknapp, let’s talk to Harry Redknapp, that’s the difference.”

Quote:
“ We’re moving into a different direction now. I’m not saying it’s the death of the football phone-in but certainly talkSPORT is taking less calls now than it ever has”

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/inte...e-7722696.html

Since reading that its made me think that the talkRADIO approach maybe similar.

Go back to the LBC thread where your cynical posts re SA will be appreciated. My sarcasm was directed at your comments, not Steve.

You clearly know absolutely nothing about his life.

It always astonishes me how a successful broadcaster on at 4-7am attracts so much judgmental comment on this forum.

The TuneIn app currently says it is "Best of Breakfast with Paul Ross" even though there is no such show.

I seem to remember there was one the first weekend of the station. Wasn't the Best of Iain on Saturday (presumably as they didn't have a Let's Talk to repeat) and Best of Ross on Sunday?

Tune In can be slow at updating pictures and details. When Iain did 3CR breakfast Tune In showed a picture of the show's former presenters (and not even the show he took over from!)

Yes, Best of Iain was moved to Sunday after the first week. So perhaps the schedule was uploaded once, right at the start and not changed since. TuneIn also doesn't know about George Galloway on Friday evening and still thinks it is Jonny and Ash.

It doesn't get much attention on here, but I really, really like Jake Yapp's Sunday morning show. His pairing with Laura is just perfect.
