Jon Holmes is doing two shows a day this week. He's sitting in for Edith Bowman on Virgin at breakfast while still doing his usual show from 1-4pm.

Last time he was on Virgin (the previous incarnation renamed to Absolute in 2008) he was sacked and the station fined a record £75,000, a record that still stands to this day.

It doesn't get much attention on here, but I really, really like Jake Yapp's Sunday morning show. His pairing with Laura is just perfect.
Yes, it is good. I would listen to it but I'm already committed to 30 hours a week of radio and I haven't got time for any more.

Having bigged up Jake Yapp, I'm going to criticise Eamonn Holmes. The majority of his interviews so far have been with ubiquitous Z-listers, who have nothing new to say (and very little of interest to me in the first place anyway). Does Rylan really merit a long, in-depth interview? I can't see too many people being interested enough to bother listening.

..And it is another repeat. TalkRadio really need to change their Sunday schedule, too many repeated shows. I hardly listen on a Sunday.

Oh gosh, really? I hadn't realised that. If talkRADIO can't attract enough serious interviewees at this early stage, it doesn't bode well. This is the kind of show where surely they can stockpile recordings and do them at any time.

I absolutely agree about the weekends. It feels like a 'soft' opening/launch, but by now, they should be in full swing, I would have thought. They're not going to attract many listeners like this.

Yes, Best of Iain was moved to Sunday after the first week. So perhaps the schedule was uploaded once, right at the start and not changed since. TuneIn also doesn't know about George Galloway on Friday evening and still thinks it is Jonny and Ash.
Someone has to remind the folks at TalkRadio that they can start the process of updating the schedule by sending TuneIn a call...

yeah the weekends are a problem... apart from Jake Yapp and the Radio Hustle (even that is repeated again on Sunday) the weekends are dreadful. I wouldn't change much about the week day schedule-- apart from Ross and Jonny and Ash but the weekends need a propper shake-up. please though, no james whale!

New Listener Alert !!

I just got a new car with a dab radio and came across talk radio - I did think it bizarre that I haven't actually heard a caller this week..........at all !

I was a listener to the original talk radio with tommy boyd, scott chisholm etc - where are they now ?

This afternoon I switched the talk radio player on my pc whilst doing some work and it was a best of hour with clips from the peter stringfellow show and iain lee etc.

Around 5pm it sounded like that bloke from homes under the hammer (another pre-recorded show) - but I actually enjoyed it - it included a discussion about burying your relatives in your own back garden and the legalities of it

Not impressed overall if I'm honest - I flick between talk radio and the country dab channel on my new toy - the country station I enjoy a lot more - yeee ha !

I'll listen on illegal catch up on the way home.

Listened to the Virgin Radio breakfast show - very much as daft as talkradio and Radio X shows.

Nice to hear Russell Kane on Breakfast with Ross today reviewing the papers. He used to appear on BBC London before Boring Barkes took over and was always a good value guest. Ross was talking utter tosh re raw chicken till Sandy Waugh corrected him. I find he's the most I'll informed twit at times, and was waiting for him to refer to Vaz's antics comparing himself, and ofcourse he went down the 'private lives' route and not hypocrisy and lies. Numpty.

Today, Jon told the story about when Cornelius tried to talk to Chris Moyles when they were at Radio X:

Jon complained about talkSPORT getting a TV ad yesterday afternoon, whilst also grumbling about having to have texts starting with the word "talk". talkSPORT don't have such a requirement. Oh, and they also managed to get in another dig at Moyles.

Some people may not be aware that new inductees into the Tupperware Hall of Despair (aka Lonely Lunch Club) now get a "prize". The choice this week has included a talkRADIO mug, talkSPORT mug, talkSPORT 2 mug, Jon's new book, a Colin Murray calendar, or a Metro newspaper that Con had scribbled Haikus on.

There were interesting staffing arrangements on Friday when Ass Prod Cass went on holiday and was replaced by hitherto work experience Aidan. So he leapfrogged Paid Intern Cornelius in the show hierarchy to be a paid assistant producer for the day.

Con did a very good Josh Widdicombe impression yesterday.

Today's Lonely Luncher came on for the second time to give us an update on her neighbour who she overheard once saying that he would not want to make love to someone called Bernard. It was a very entertaining call. However, there was no mention of prizes (or "gifts" as they are called, perhaps to satisfy guidelines or regulations on radio quizzes). She had already been inducted previously so perhaps that is why there was no gift. But perhaps it was an oversight.

For the last few weeks, Jon has been pretending to read out letters saying that they can't get their head around the news. Today, he actually read out a genuine letter. Someone had actually gone to the trouble of posting a real letter saying he can't get his head around it!

A most educational lecture on spontaneous human combustion the other night from Dr Lee and his guest, if you're reading Dr it was a splendid presentation.

talkRADIO (and talkSPORT) upload their output every 30 minutes to a 32 kbps mp3 file like this:

cdn.talksport.com/
talkradio/
audio/
listenagain/
20160812_1330_LA.mp3

replacing the year, month, day and time accordingly.

The Listen Again site merely links to these files, hence you get links for a 3 hour show and 4 links for a 2 hour show.

So basically they are the same set of highlights yea?, it threw me because they start differently but if I understand you correctly they are the same except one of the set's is longer so they get more in.

With listening to the show live quite a bit I sort of skim through the highlights looking for my favourite bits and it was difficult to establish things right so thanks.

Listening to the handover from JHB to Jon just now suggests that Jon and/or his team did a prank call on Galloway last Friday. It sounds like they will be talking about it on the show this afternoon.

They went to the pub after the show on Friday so after a few drinks they decided that Cornelius would prank call Galloway by saying the words to a Black Eyed Peas song which sound vaguely like a call someone would make to a news based phone-in.

George let him do his piece, then said he knew it wasn't a normal phone call right from the start, but still addressed one of the questions in the lyrics.
