Enjoying James Max sitting in for the Goulds. He comes with his LBC contacts book, so we got some familiar entertaining guests in Adrian Mills (give him a weekend show) and William Hansen.

And a stunning revelation from LaDonna Harvey. It was a real unexpected radio moment.

Oh, and calls...from the public!

About 100% better than the Goulds.

James Max is in for Jonny and Ash tonight and he's not bad. He's currently talking about Donald Trump, but it's been bringing in callers. Probably second only to Iain Lee in terms of callers and yet he doesn't have a permanent show. I actually think he might work on breakfast; I prefer something lighter during the evenings. Max comes across like he knows what he's talking about.

I actually think that with a couple of exceptions, the cover presenters are better than the regular presenters. It won't be long before we see some changes as we've just hit six months in. Maybe now we'll see things stay as they are for another six months before things get reviewed. The exceptions I speak of are Iain Lee, Jon Holmes and Jake Yapp and Laura Shavin. Sam Delaney has good days and bad days so sometimes he is in that group too.

And this sums up just one of the many reasons why there is a lack of audience for many of the shows! No one knows it exists! 😂

Jon dropped into the conversation this afternoon that he's got next week off and The Two Mikes are on the schedule for next Monday.

Thats very true I guess. It doesnt help though that I would have to listen to it via the tinny speakers on either my laptop or mobile phone, as DAB is virtually non existent where I live!!

I live in the centre of England...Northampton to be exact. The multiplex that talkRADIO etc is on can not be heard here! In my car on the factory fitted dab it doesn't exist, however, using a VERY long aerial I can get it in my house! So much for a second national dab multiplex!

Yes, he has called up. There was no harm done. You would have read that if you read the "Iain Lee on talkRADIO" thread which was set up to avoid this thread being swamped by Iain Lee chat.

Exactly!!..the National coverage is utterly useless. I guess though, as usual, its great if you live in London!!

talkRADIO has 75% indoor coverage. There was never a promise of universal UK wide coverage. Even Digital One only covers about 90%. For the remainder, it is "useless".

Let me guess then...you're one of the 75%?!!!

I am, but I don't listen on DAB. I prefer to use the internet stream. A lot of the time I'm listening away from home or not listening live.

I still had to buy an expensive new portable radio that gets DAB+ to hear TalkRADIO. The older cheaper DAB radios only get the older stations.

IMO the main problem with listening to TalkRadio is the platform it is on. It's not widely available. I couldn't even listen online via my Android tablet when it first started. I think people who are interested try then give up and tune elsewhere. My Pure personal DAB broke and I had to buy a new one so made sure I bought the newer model to get DAB+ and hear Talk, but it wasn't cheap.

talkRADIO is in classic, mono DAB. It's not a DAB+ station. Any DAB radio you have should already be able to receive the channel - subject to being within its coverage footprint (yeah, I know - it's not great).

I'd say your DAB+ set was a good investment though - and most bought in the last couple of years are DAB+ anyway - even the cheap ones.

The national DAB+ stations at present are: Fun Kids UK, Jazz FM Stereo, Magic Chilled and Union JACK. All the other stations on the SDL ensemble are compatible with all older DAB radios.

The problem may have been that a full retune was not carried out on the original radio. Most older DAB radios had a choice of doing a full or regular retune. Very few radios have no facility to do a full retune. Goodmans is the only manufacturer that I've heard of that has this problem.

Also, talkRADIO has been available through its internet stream since day one, and beforehand during the test transmissions, so any Android tablet would have been able to pick it up on day one or during the test transmissions by manually inputting the stream address into the Tune In app or even simply by typing the address into the Chrome browser.

Thanks for the advice. I realise I am technically challenged.

I've just checked my Pure One Elite in the kitchen and YAY I can hear Talk. I had done a retune ages ago, and could see the station listed on the screen, but every time I tuned in there was no sound coming out, so I assumed it did not work on that radio. But now it does! Maybe the DAB had gone off on those occasions I could not hear anything? But great that I can now listen in the kitchen too. I used to have to wear my portable with the earphones keep popping out whilst cooking - very annoying!

I'm sorry DAB is not national and other potential listeners can't receive Talk. But there is clearly a market for the station, though it could be improved with a few presenter changes. Though James Max's show did descend into BBC London late into his final hour when all the old biddies who call that station every night started to call. Incase James is reading this - I don't really want to hear from Irene etc on Talk, thanks.

Thanks for answering about Nigel I'm glad he's back and everything is alright once again. On the other matter yes I hear you [again] telling me to post about Iain Lee on another thread but as far as I am concerned Iain Lee is part of talkRADIO and so anyone writing about him on here is fully entitled to as I see it.

But at least read that thread, otherwise you will miss all of the Iain Lee discussion as there is none to read here, as you are the only one who posts about him on this thread.

The problem I have found with the Iain Lee thread is it's far too moderated, posts get deleted for very little good reason, not only 'offending' posts but every other post that replied and more often than not there was very little offence in my view. I don't know if different moderators monitor different threads [I would expect they probably do] but I just found it very annoying to lose my posts when they were all pretty innocent. I've been a member for 8 years and never had a ban or a warning after 13,882 postings so I don't have any agendas.

Maybe I'll try the Lee thread again and see how it goes I can see your point to be fair.

I'm only really thinking about it from your point of view. You simply won't get the information you want by only reading this thread. I was personally quite happy with one talkRADIO thread but someone decided to set up the other thread so that is how things are now.

But the vast majority of chat is on the talkRADIO Listeners Facebook page to be honest. I duplicate a lot of my posts here on DS and there on Facebook and I usually get a lot more replies over there. I've always preferred a forum format which is why I'm still here. But the truth is the action is mostly over there.

Virgin Radio UK and talkRADIO Reveal Their Top Tips for PR Professionals at Exclusive Media Briefing

http://www.prnewswire.co.uk/news-rel...596011201.html

Interesting article, especially liked this quote by talkRADIO's managing editor, Dennie Morris

Quote:
“The station is 100% speech content, which means variety has to be at the core of what it broadcast. According to Morris, instead of an agenda running talkRADIO, the station is led by personalities. These include Paul Ross, Julia Hartley-Brewer, Sam Delaney, Iain Lee and George Galloway. Galloway, especially, receives an "unbelievable spike in listeners when he comes on air"”

Which begs the question why he only gets 1 show per week?

Also this bit

Quote:
“While talkRADIO describes itself as straight down the middle when it comes to opinion, this doesn't stop its presenters voicing their, often opposing, beliefs. When George Galloway was running for London mayor, he was engaged in "Twitter spats" with fellow presenter Julia Hartley-Brewer, which was brilliant for the talkRADIO brand, said Morris. Often, listeners are staying tuned programme to programme to find out how presenters react when they bait each other.”

Not sure baiting each other for the fun of it will get me tuning in but hey each to their own.
