Why would they do that? LBC serves that particular niche.

You cannot be serious.

We need less "news agenda" talk on radio, not even more of it.

Hear, hear.

I don't think I could stomach another station like LBC. So-called 'news' phone-ins rely on shocking, worrying and angering their audience (just like the Daily Mail does), which usually results in uninformed prejudiced tabloid bollox. Certainly not news.

That's a very positive spin by Jonny Gould on what has been a failure of a show really.

It is definitely Whale replacing. Liam Fisher said as much in a tweet last week.

LBC presenters give a balanced view on the news it's the callers they disagree with presenters

Katie Hopkins gives a balanced view on the news?

I bet talkRADIO would love to have Katie Hopkins as a presenter, she talks shite and is definitely a personality!

LBC has Katy Hopkins, and TalkRadio has George Galloway. Both stations want presenters who have controversial views that will wind up the listeners.

?That is not the fault of the presenter. James Whale isn't doing any better and it's not his fault that he isn't doing any better.

By being on TalkRadio, James Whale will be more free, but he will be broadcasting to a much smaller audience than what he had on a BBC local radio station that broadcasts to a small county in the shadows of the capital.

The latest RAJAR shows BBC Essex having a reach of 212,000 compared to 224,000 for talkRADIO. The main reason why Whale might get fewer listeners will be because of the time slot. 7-10pm is traditionally a radio graveyard slot whereas he was on breakfast at BBC Essex.

George Galloway is an intellect

Katie Hopkins is just a gobshite.

Their truly is no comparison.

That cuts both ways of course in terms of prejudice etc. The Guardian and the Mirror do just as good a job as the Daily Mail. Just like JOB does the same as Katie Hopkins.

I don't think any other newspaper quite lives up to the 'standard' of the Daily Mail when it comes to trying to scare their readership and printing prejudice, although The Sun gives it a good run for its money. I have to presume you're joking when you say the Guardian is like the Mail... in the same way that I have to presume you are when you say JOB does the same as Hopkins.

No, no joking. The papers and presenters mentioned are there to speak to their respective audiences. They are not there to present the news in a dispassionate way. I don't see why people who read the Guardian, are any less narrow minded than those who read the Daily Mail.

George Galloway provides an exceptionally good listen, even if you don't agree with a word he says.

His show on Friday evenings is at an awkward time but I try and make a point of listening to at least an hour or more of it. It's without doubt the best show on TalkRadio by a long way. Sorry Iain Lee and Howard Hughes!

That's not what I said or how you responded, though, is it? I am going to find it hard to respond in a measured way to anyone who thinks the Guardian acts like the Daily Mail in terms of its approach and editorial choices.

Anyway... all highly off-topic.

Fine. You seem to think that one side is interested in "the truth" and the other is interested in "scare stories". I see it differently that's all.

You're the one that brought up sides, not me... Jumping to all sorts of false conclusions there and putting words into my mouth, I'm afraid. Good example of prejudice though, so well done...

A greater way to measure speech programme audiences than a few random people completing diaries I have never been sent, is the amount of listener contributions. James Whale did not get many listener contributions on drive, which should theoretically have more listeners.

In other words, you don't really mind presenters expressing controversial views as long as they're in line with your views. George Galloway could speak about Tony Blair in the same way as Katy Hopkins speaks about people on benefits and he will be considered "intilectual" while Katy Hopkins is dismissed as a "gobshite".

If George Galloway's views were more in line with the Daily Express and Katy Hopkins' views were more in line with the Morning Star, those who prefer George Galloway would prefer Katy Hopkins and vice versa.

We learned from the last RAJAR that there is little relationship between amount of listener interaction and number of listeners. Iain obviously has way more callers than the rest, but judging by his reaction to his RAJAR, other presenters on the station clearly have more listeners. Jon Holmes also has no problem getting people to enter his meat quizzes, Lonely Lunch and End of the Week quiz, but he admitted on air recently that Paul Ross has more listeners. You would expect Ross to have more. He's at breakfast. But Ross doesn't have as much listener interaction as Jon does, even if you exclude the fake "reactions".

RAJAR has its flaws, but the sample size and methodology used is statistically sound.

No, you said I must be joking when I compared JOB and Katie Hopkins/ the Guardian and the Daily Mail. So why are they not comparable? You said you would find it "hard to respond in a measured way to the Mail - Guardian comparison. Why is that?

My post was commenting on the quotes from Jonny Gould in Radio Today about going from a 4 day a week show to Sunday. He hasn't been up to the job of hosting a news/current affairs show and should stick to Sport in my view. That's why I said he has failed.

I wouldn't waste your time trying to argue with him . He looks down his nose at anyone who doesn't share his political viewpoint . The last few years of the LBC thread can prove that
