303,000 Reach for talkRADIO in latest RAJAR an increase of around 75K and a hours increase as well to 1.3Million. I think thats a solid book for talkRADIo especially considering Virgin's 2nd book puts it at 344,000 and they have had a far bigger advertising campaign plus the familiarity with the brand name.
Also to note is that JHB's show has increased it's audience by double compared to last quarter. |

Agreed, the station should be reasonably satisfied with the progress so far. As Radio X shows, advertising does not guarantee success.

Good set of RAJARs for talkRADIO - an increase will hopefully encourage the management to hold their nerve with the existing format. One of the original Talk Radio's problems in the first two years was management not holding their nerve and changing directions.
Personally I think talkRADIO will probably eventually settle around the 500,000 mark. I would like to be proved wrong. |

Pardon me if I'm wrong but surely the definition of the word itself "talkRADIO" stands for audience participation I think too many people are standing up quite rightly as it happens for the station as it suffers from a lack of callers but the god dammed truth is they do want callers but they just can't get them because of someone's mad crazy policy on promoting a new station.
because of recent trends to more phone in radio stations some people assume it means phone ins.. it doesnt. What is a radio talk show? A talk show or chat show is a television programming or radio programming genre in which one person (or group of people) discusses various topics put forth by a talk show host. What is a radio format? A radio format, or programming format, or programming genre refers to the overall content broadcasting over a radio station. Some stations broadcast multiple genres on set schedule. Over the years, formats have evolved and new ones have been introduced. http://radiostationworld.com/directory/radio_formats/ |

It's great to hear talkRADIO's listening figures reported at 224,000 which is pretty healthy considering the station had no major advertising. Personally I had guessed it would be around the 200,000 mark so it was better than I had expected. Prediction for the next rajar release should be near the 300,000 mark. Weekends do need an major overhaul possibly something that will happen in the future. James Whale should also be given a permanent gig also as he would bring over a very healthy fan base.

Agreed. Radio 4 is speech based, you don't see many phone-ins on there.
Re the comments about a lack of awareness TalkRadio exists, it hasn't even reached much of the wider media. When Julia HB appeared on Sunday Politics in the Summer, at the height of all the political upheaval, her caption read "LBC Presenter". I tweeted them that she had left LBC over a year ago, and mid show they changed her caption to "TalkRadio Presenter". |

On the handover from JHB to Jon, Jon congratulated JHB for her figures and Jon said that his had gone up as well, but modestly stated that was probably due to overspill over from JHB. Then JHB said "sloppy seconds"!

Does anyone have anymore info on talkradio numbers?
Very good increase but am i right in saying it equates to 625ish people listening to an hour on average (granted some hours do much better than others in a day) |

Good to see the figures going in the right direction.
I see talkSPORT has gone down - I wonder how many talkSPORT listeners have filled in their RAJAR diary under talkRADIO by mistake? Does the diary list stations alphabetically? |

Jon's insistence that Victoria should do "bonus news" was genius.
Firstly, you have banter relating to Victoria getting to do less work for the same money (and now more money as Victoria has passed her probation so gets the standard company pay rise). Secondly, there were the complaints from Victoria about her dislike of "mineral news". Thirdly, the actual animal/vegetable/mineral news is sometimes amusing and/or generates more quality studio banter. Dr Pam was today's contestant on Paul Rossmaster. |

There was a slight decline in the reach in London, from 80,000 to 79,000.

I think Jonny Gould just said the show's only on for one more week. Is he (or they) being replaced by James Whale?

Jonny's moving to Sunday afternoon for a newspaper review show. There has been no word as yet on this replacement, but the smart money is on Whale replacing him.

Where do the changes leave Ash? Remaining with James Whale or joining Jonny on Sundays? Doing both and working five days a week (Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Sun) is certainly possible but I think it is unlikely.

Be good if talkRADIO started doing a yearly Christmas 'Clash of The Titans' show like they used to do on talkSPORT I'd love to hear George Galloway, James Whale, Julia Hartley-Brewer and Paul Ross on a panel chaired of course by the irrepressible Iain Lee.
![]() I might drop them an email suggesting it. Here's an old one from year 2000, on the panel that time was Mike Dickin, James Whale, Tommy Boyd and Alan Brazil who was chairman. >>>http://bit.ly/2e7pmKN<<< |

I always find radio presenters who trawl through the daily rags incredibly lazy to be honest. It's kind of like stealing other people's work and passing it off as your own in a loose kind of way. Over the past 3 months my own TalkRadio listening has declined sharply with just a drop in on The Unexplained on Sunday night with Howard Hughes and also Friday evening with a bit of Galloway. By accident and without intending to do so I have found myself listening to precisely no late night Iain Lee whatsoever, not through anything that show did but I lost the habit for a couple of weeks back in summer and stopped. Will try and dip in again in the weeks ahead. I agree with you on Clash Of The Titans Billy. That used to be a festive treat in the early days of Talk Radio UK and TalkSport. That line up suggestion wasn't bad although drop Paul Ross for Iain Lee. |

It is possible to listen to shows more than a week old WITHOUT downloading them first. Just change the date at the end of the address.
You can currently go back to 31 August using this method: http://talkradio.co.uk/radio/schedule/2016-08-31 |

Oh how original. If you want to know what's in the papers I have a rather quaint old fashioned idea - BUY ONE!

That line up suggestion wasn't bad although drop Paul Ross for Iain Lee. I suggested Iain Lee as chairman but remember he can comment on the subjects as well just like they did on the old talkRADIO. Paul Ross was a choice because frankly I couldn't think of anyone better that's currently there, I had thought of Jon Holmes first but just figured Iain Lee would be enough to provide the laughs the rest I wanted more serious. I agree 'The Unexplained' show has deteriorated somewhat, it's fine having some silliness in the show but I think now they're taking the p!$$. Hate to say this but in my honest view the weekday breakfast show would be improved with someone better doing it and the weekends for me needs to be improved. I like the 'Best Of' shows' but the schedule would be far better running live shows with some top presenters what about airing the 'Best Of' shows between 1am and 6am Saturday and Sunday nights they're only airing premier league football content anyway during these spells. |
