Not really to do with the new station but today is the 10th anniversary of the death of Mike Dickin.
The day I joined DS!

The LBC thread had been locked, due to speculation of his death. I didn't know about it when going to the thread - a message came up to the effect of I needed to log in to view it, so I created an account.

The "Big Story" on Jon Holmes' show was replaced by an update on the Berlin attack where Jon interviewed a terrorist expert, although the show is largely continuing as normal.

At about 3.45 there was a trail for a review of the year with JHB, 1pm on Christmas Day.

Full marks talkRADIO. Excellent programmes from Paul Ross and James Whale (covering for Julia H-B) today, including overage of the latest terrorist outrages.

Oh how predictable. Not that many will be listening to it unless they are either very bored or very lonely.

Are we seeing TalkRadio slowly morphing into LBC lite here? I was under the impression that the station was going to be something quite different from the kind of talk based news chatter that is already served by both the BBC and commercial sector. By all means mention things like this that are going on in the world but I do hope TalkRadio is not going to "wallow" in these events hour after hour like the other alternatives do, and in doing so means the media I think helps the terrorists with the fear spreading they wish to achieve. A fine balance I know and this is not meant to sound hard faced or dismissive. TalkRadio is meant to be a significant alternative to the likes of BBC 5 Live and LBC and their merry-go-round of the same old well trodden mainstream news agenda narratives. Well that has been my perception from giving James Whale, Howard Hughes, Iain Lee and George Galloway a listen.

Is the Jon Holmes thing some sort of special, or is he just going out for a walk looking for students with Producer Dave?

The line-up looks a hell of a lot better than LBC`s, anyway, which is good.

Just in case non-fans are wondering what you are talking about, Jon usually gives outrageously libellous student-related reasons for Producer Dave's regular absences. Jon took quite a long time off to go to Rwanda in October where he spent time with gorillas for a documentary.

Producer Dave has been turning up a bit more regularly recently but his attendance is still very sporadic. I wonder how that works on a practical level. He's still billed as the main producer yet he's hardly ever there. How much input does he actually put into the show?

I see the Jon Holmes programme that Iain announced is actually Katherine Boyle with an hour's review of the year, but otherwise it's as he said

On Christmas Eve from 1pm there is "Christmas Lunch with Barry Vera" instead of the Radio Hustle.

By typing the web address directly, it appears the schedule has been updated until at least 2 January

http://talkradio.co.uk/radio/schedule/2016-12-29
http://talkradio.co.uk/radio/schedule/2016-12-30
http://talkradio.co.uk/radio/schedule/2016-12-31
http://talkradio.co.uk/radio/schedule/2017-01-01
http://talkradio.co.uk/radio/schedule/2017-01-02

It looks like next Thursday and Friday is the same as next Tuesday and Wednesday, except Yasmeen is on Friday as usual.

New Year's Eve is the same as a normal Saturday except for Iain taking us from 9pm into 2017, which we have known for some time. Iain continues until 1 o'clock so there is no Jerry Springer.

New Year's Day:

0600 Best of Iain
0800 Jake Yapp
1100 James Whale
1400 JHB Review of the Year
1600 The Year According to Sam Delaney
1800 A Year of talkRADIO with Katherine Boyle
1900 Bob Mills
2200 Howard Hughes

On 2 January, James Max and Jake Yapp continue to sit in for JHB and Jon.

http://talkradio.co.uk/radio/schedule/2017-01-03

shows the schedule returning to normal on 3 January, but that might be because it hasn't been updated yet.

Thanks radamfi,

The NYD schedule looks a lot like Xmas Day, but otherwise I think it's a lot better than what LBC are offering throughout the season - at least we might have a bit of festive cheer!

Whaley pushing the envelope of daytime radio today...

filling in for the great goddess Julia he repeatedly said "we are here filling Julia's slot"

capped with yes folks we are here filling Julia Hartley-Brewer's slot...and it's a big slot to fill....

hilarious and very carry on matron don't know how he got away with that one...more rude than Jon Holme's last week after the Christmas party on hand over..."yes last night I took Julia up the Shard"...

she told him off for that one...

of course I'd like nothing better than to do both of those things with empress Julia... *ahem* ooh err matron.....

I think today's Paul Rossmaster was recorded. The music for the haiku just before finished rather abruptly. The contestant, Arielle Free, was in the studio rather than on the phone. Jon entered the data into the slow system and announced the score, whereas Con normally does that.

I briefly taught Paul's daughter Violet when she was at middle school, she was lovely and wasn't there for long but she gave me a card and a big hug when I left ..very sweet

Just before the 11 o'clock news last night, Bob Mills said his out time of 57:25 was odd as it is 57:40 on his Sunday night show and Ed said it was because it allows for him to talk up to the news. Bob said he didn't want to talk up to the news so Ed gave him a new out time of 57:45. That would suggest that the out time is usually the same so the ad break before the news is usually the same length.

Bob last night had two calls in the first hour, regular listeners to his Sunday evening show. There were no calls for the rest of the show so it was Bob, Ed and the Australian producer (who I hadn't heard before) chatting together.

Glad you noticed this too - the whole thing just sounded odd - almost certain it was on tape

Btw did talksport have any callers ask why hawksbee and/or Jacobs had sworn at Con in the lift?!

It is rather strange that they have decided to have Bob Mills on 10pm Tuesday and yesterday but tomorrow and Friday it is a best of.

If someone here is bored they could check the talkSPORT Listen Again to see if that happened!

The only reason james whale loves the royal family so much, that he is hoping for a cbe, obe or some other garbage royal awards.
