So that explains why Bob wasn't available last night. Perhaps another question would be why did they not get someone else, but maybe there wasn't anyone suitable as Jake Yapp (another previous stand-in) is already doing the afternoons.

James Max sounds like he's desperate for callers... almost begging people to call in

I picked up a copy of the Big Issue on the train yesterday: it had some Christmas radio programme recommendations - all BBC apart from one for Talk Radio

"As for the voice to choose for New Year’s Eve, I’ll recommend Iain Lee on Talk Radio again. Save yourself from damp fireworks and overpriced and underpar cocktails by staying inside and feasting on the idiosyncratic show of Mr Lee."

I felt a bit sorry for him so I did.....

Had to be on hold for 25 minutes though though they did call me back when I got through....
Was quite pleasant actually though I know wasn't exactly a controversial topic....and producer/researcher apologised after call ended as he got my name wrong as they used my Twitter name but it was all fine...

hopefully didn't bore people too much with geeky petrol head talk too much...Sorry

Ooh, what time were you on? I may use the listen again feature!

Amazing that you were on hold for 25 minutes when he was so desperate for callers...!

What seems to happen is that they give priority to the planned running order. They have to assume that there will be no calls so they cram the show with interviews. So when calls come in they have to be slotted in.

James Max's pro-Israel programme yesterday was disgusting. There's one thing supporting Israel, and there's another spewing out-and-out lies about Palestine/Palestinians. I was only half listening, but some of the stuff was possibly Ofcom complaint worthy.

He'd probably be better placed on some US right wing talk station.

I didn't hear the show in question, but I find James Max polarises even my own opinion of him. In the early days on LBC, when we was allowed to do lighthearted topics, I really liked him. I still do when I hear him on talkRADIO on more fun topics.

But once he gets onto anything political or business-related, I find him almost impossible to listen to. I don't agree with his views - which is fine - but he doesn't listen to anyone else's on certain topics.

He kept repeating that Palestinians completely deny Israel's right to exist and would never accept a two-state solution, despite the fact that HAMAS have said that they'll recognise Israel providing they stick to the 1967 borders.

Was really disturbing to hear very right wing Zionist propaganda being broadcast freely, since I'm fairly sure we have laws against that?! Wondering if he was playing it up for Murdoch in an attempt to get a permanent slot?

The man needs to be taken off air completely though, he's completely incapable of moderating a debate on anything.

I don't think so. Certainly outside of an election period, I believe presenters can be as biased as they like on commercial stations. There is a proviso that they must allow people to phone in and challenge his opinions. Of course, with the lack of callers that talkRADIO usually has, the opposing view doesn't get aired so it sounds like a monologue.

I wonder why George Galloway is sounding as if the Queen is unwell or worse?

I know he keeps prefacing everything he says with, he hopes she reigns for more years to come etc, but it seems an odd topic to discuss at the moment, especially as there is nothing in the news about Royal succession at the moment.

I have no idea but he doesn't 'look' like your archetypal veggie.

Someone who doesn't want anyone who disagrees with them to be given a show. Your hate for Max is based on a show you only "half listened to"?

Sorry to disappoint but Iain (and Jon Holmes) have been playing music for a long time.

I would imagine it is to allow him time after the news to get setup. A two minute news bulletin doesn't give you much time when using the same studio as the previous presenter!

Probably because the show often has the topic of music come up, and he often has guests from the music industry on his show.

Yep - Jon Holmes even appointed himself the TalkRadio head of music on his first show and played quite a bit of Florence and the Machine that afternoon IIRC
