Maybe they think he is too old or too risky. I would have thought a major attraction, however!

Certainly would be for me..... his afternoon show was my favourite of all the day time shows.

Is he 'damaged goods' after his PlayRadio experience though?

Possibly.....
Never did listen to him on PlayRadio, or listen to that station at all...... back then, an internet only radio station was a bit of an alien concept to me.

What happened to make him 'damaged goods'?

Iain Lee said in one of his periscopes that he had spoken to his new bosses about getting Boyd on the station but he said they weren't interested.,

Thanks for that.
Very interesting.

I wouldn't say that Tommy Boyd is "damaged goods" after his Play Talk days although he did do some rather "experimental" decision-making in his management role there and if the new Talk Radio bosses are not interested in him then that is possibly part of the reason why. Personally I thought he was right to try to break new ground and take advantage of the USP of the platform, but perhaps he didn't always get the implementation quite right and I know he surprised and alienated a lot of his core fans (even though he actually announced in advance that he was intending to do that all along).

I reckon many of the fans who are saying that they would like to have Tommy back on Talk Radio (or some other station) would want to hear him back doing exactly what he used to do on the old Talk Radio but from what he has said over the years I suspect he wouldn't want to do that anyway.

Giving a show to a prostitute and the mouthpiece of the BNP didnt seem to do him any favours.

Tommy Boyd's never been the same since he used to work out with Arnold Schwarzenegger - https://41.media.tumblr.com/d20ed9f9...2f0go1_500.jpg

He was fired from Talksport for an inappropriate comment on the very night or a day after the Queen Mother passed in March 2002. Presumably that is still held over him as the new station is the sister station to his old employer that have already dismissed him once, even if it was now 14 years ago.

I'd be very keen to hear him on national airwaves again, but maybe he's been there and done it and has no interest any more in doing so? I've no idea.

I thought the comment was made by a caller and Tommy's crime was not dumping it quickly enough? sounds like they were looking for a reason to get rid and jumped on that. I'm not sure about TB-- yes his show on Talk Radio in the early days was a good listen but I'm not one for harping back to 'the good old days'. I think its time to give new presenters and new shows a chance, not shows/presenters from 20 years ago! the only presenter from the old TR fronting a show is Paul Ross and I think its right to go forsomething different. at the end of the day, there was a reason the old talk radio went all sport-- because it made commercial sense. if the station wasn't as successful as they wanted it to be in the past, why go back to all the old faces from those days? as good as he was, if I was management at talk radio I wouldn't have been interested in bringing TB back either.

I loved Pauls LBC Saturday morning show a few years ago - then followed by three hours of Jenny Eclair.

Reinstating that light hearted format they used then for Pauls show would keep me happy!

Yes, was a great show. Still no sign of an Internet stream?

Bringing back Talk Radio has been a TWG ambition for several years, ever since the original second multiplex was considered. When Talk Radio became TalkSport there was only one outlet, so it was a case of going with the concept that was seen to be most commercially attractive. Now,TWG don't have to limit themselves to one concept.

I think you're right. From memory, Tommy was getting into wrestling promotion and (I think) Kelvin McKenzie wanted a slice of the action, leading to a fall out when Tommy rejected it.

You have to admit though Tommy Boyd and 'The Human Zoo' was fantastic radio on a Sunday evening.. I'd personally like to see that kind of show on the new Talkradio, thoughts?

I just tried

http://radio.talkradio.co.uk/stream

for an experiment. It is currently streaming the talkSPORT 2 test transmission but maybe that will change to talkRADIO at some point.

Iain Lee said there would be straight-to-air at some point.

That was fantastic. Iain Lee has done an equivalent and I hope he will on Talk Radio.

What I remember is that TB was sacked along with the entire team when a Irish republican suggested that the Royal family/queen mother should be taken out and **** in the back of the head, all sacked because they did not dump the call.

The wrestling I believe was down to the radio station not knowing that TB had a slice of the wrestling action and when they found out that he was using the station to promote his own business interest they sacked him.

That always been my take on it.
