Sorry if this has already been posted, but do we have a full line up yet with show times? Like a proper full schedule?

Are Talkradio going to be doing any shows that are based on specific topics like the LBC Legal Hour, Mystery hour etc to me these shows are appointment to listen shows that I never miss, whereas I find dipping in and out of random conversation a much more casual thing and will switch over depending on the topic. Anything EU referendum goes straight off for example.

I think I'll try and catch Galloway as although I really disagree with him on most things and even end up shouting at the radio sometimes, he is incredibly engaging and a very good speaker, same with Farrage, again even though I don't agree with a lot of what he says.

The line up is here:

http://radiotoday.co.uk/2016/03/jon-...-on-talkradio/

You will want to listen every Monday and Friday between 09:00-10:00 if you like appointment radio like I do. As a listener I would want to call in to those hours especially!

If there is nothing in the room what becomes the Talkradio studio than they have a long way to go for monday...
At a guess the main control room is ready to go its just the presenters studio that needs sorting. thats not a major job to do. Granted there cutting it fine however its easily do able with plenty of time to spare.

There are lots of ways of doing things but MPlayer will take a stream and store it as a file (archive for listening later) without any lossy transcoding or conversion of digital to analogue and back again.
Code:
mplayer http://radio.talkradio.co.uk/stream -dumpstream -dumpfile yourrecording.mp3
for example will record the TalkRADIO stream and save it as a file named "yourrecording.mp3"

I think 32kbps is OK for talk so long as they take care with the quality of what they feed in. It is mono, hi-fi is not required and the low bitrate is good for mobile listening and people on limited data packages.

mp3 format is convenient for people recording and distributing it. But 32 kbps AAC would be better quality sound and would not consume more bandwidth.

On Iain's fourth podcast, he told us what guests he will have on in the first week:

Monday: Steven Page from the Barenaked Ladies
Tuesday: John Sebastian from the band Lovin' Spoonful
Wednesday: Dennis Locorriere from Dr Hook
Thursday: Andy Partridge from XTC
Friday: author Matt Haig

I'm guessing the woman with the Nigel Farage tattoo used to phone him on 3CR?

I also wonder if the retuning exercise was done deliberately that way to make people realise that they have to do a full retune on older radios.

If it's the same woman with the Farage tattoo who was in the paper, she's from Chesterfield so not sure if she used to call 3CR. I got the impression they set up the call from Twitter correspondance?

Someone who used to phone Watko on Mansfield 103.2 then maybe?

Look out for OPUS as an up-and-coming audio streaming (and file) format too. It is better than AAC for a given bitrate, you can stream it via an Icecast server, there are no licensing issues, support is being built into media players but you can also play the stream directly in most modern browsers via HTML5.

Radio Jackie appear to be the only station currently using OPUS, with the Absolute stations being labelled "abandoned" on radiofeeds:

http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/other.asp

Radio Jackie is a strong proponent of internet streaming (and have a correspondingly negative opinion on DAB) and have a comparison of the various streams:

http://www.radiojackie.com/listennowpage.asp

suggesting that 32 kbps OPUS is as good as 128 kbps mp3

I did check it, the fact it is broadcasting talkSPORT2 is temporary right? it'll switch to talkRADIO before launch.

I can always edit it if that's not the case, but that was my understanding. I did put a comment in the description about that.

If I click on "On Now", it then goes to something called TalkRadioX

That never works with certain formats I don't think, or you're clicking the one above. It's an audio recorder, the recording functionality works.

If it transpires the stream is a different URL to the one given I'll edit it, although I doubt it seeing as it's on the talkradio.co.uk domain, looks like they are only simulcasting talksport2 for testing purposes and that prior to launch it'll switch over. I did put a note in the description to say that the station launches on 21st and that it it simulcasting talkSPORT2 until then.

Was it always intended to be UK only. Thought it would be worldwide just like TSP1!

It's a rights issue because of the live matches.

There's no Listen Again for the first show on talkSPORT 2, despite it existing for Colin Murray on talkSPORT which ended at the same time. Maybe it will turn up later, but this may indicate no Listen Again for talkRADIO.

not sure we can necesarily make that assumption (though you may well be correct). It could be that they don't have the on demand rites for all the live sport they have and so have just decided not to bother at all with listen again for any of it. that wouldn't be an issue with talk radio and it would be a real shame if they don't have it!

Thinking about it, you have a point there given that the whole station is geoblocked, yet talkSPORT isn't. So if there was a Listen Again, people outside the UK could download it, which would probably infringe on the sports rights.

TalkRADIO stream gives a promo: http://radio.talkradio.co.uk/stream
Stream 32 kbps is too low. Sounds like AM radio. Hope they increase the bitrate of it.
