I can remember when i first starting listening to the original Talk Radio, sometimes i found it hard going trying to stick with it. Nothing to do with the content, i mostly loved it, it was the AM reception. Constant retuning from 1053 to 1089 trying to get decent reception used to do my head in. It would annoy me that much at times, that i would just return to R1 on FM.

1. The original Talk Radio never really recovered from a very bad start.
2. The USA and Australia both have a number of news/lifestyle talk-based stations. Why shouldn't Britain? 3. 21 years have passed. The format has become more established in Britain. The management set-up is much more professional now. There's no reason why it shouldn't work. A few forum members who listened to the old Talk Radio want x, y, & z back but most are shock jocks which is ok if you like them. I wish the station the best of luck though. |

I firmly believe that if LBC concentrate on politics and health issues as they have been doing and Talkradio do as they are promising magazine style personality led programming they should be able to not only make inroads into LBC 's audience but actually build up a sizeable stand alone listenership of its own As realwales says its 21 years since the original The commercial radio market that was in place then has all but gone In many respects the launch of digital 2 reminds me of the launch of BBC 2 and the uhf colour network I wouldn't mind betting that those who can't get DAB+ will upgrade and will be the shot in the arm the industry needs |

How have we got this far into the thread without anyone suggesting McClue?
![]() I'd also love to hear Charlie Wolf again - he was great in the original talk radio days. Other thoughts: This is going to be a seriously expensive undertaking - and without and analogue outlet, will it be able to turn a profit? How much of the off peak output will be live? Lots of questions which will no doubt be answered in due course. My hunch is that Sound Digital will be the last major traditional 'radio' launch in a post internet world. I'm planning to enjoy it while it lasts... |

He's only into I think his second or third month of shows there I too would like Charlie included but not sure if he's up for it now As for it succeeding a poster above mentioned the chronically bad am reception .. I too loved the station and when I lived in Manchester reception was ok When I moved to derby it was awful There were three of their transmitters over lapping and an almost constant echo And when the adverts were played all different ones to each of the areas it was a garbled mess Dab should sort that problem once and for all |

So what's happening 7 til 10 on Monday to Thursday evenings? If Talk Radio isn't a sport free zone, they may choose to use that time for extra commentaries. Talk Business was scrapped and I think that is a good decision. I wonder if that means business programming on Talk Radio? I also wouldn't be surprised if there was a problems phone-in.

That's what that's there for Maybe Anna Raeburn for a problems phone in As they are emphasising magazine style Edit Talk Business hasn't been scrapped .. They've just farmed it out to a third party |

Looking forward to hearing George Galloway again. I don't always agree with him but he always gets a reaction, which is what talk radio should be. There should be a slot for Danny Baker, I wonder whats happening on the weekend............I hope its not fishing Saturday morning

The US and Australia are different cultures with different demands. The phone-in has been done to death here IMO. The format was established commercially in 1973 (a lot longer than 21 years ago) with LBC, and had much better presenters doing it, and of course it was a lot fresher then. It wasn't 24 hour phone-ins either, so you had a break from that format at various times during the day.. And even a year or two earlier you had phone-ins on the original BBC Radio London. LBC is a good example today of how passé the whole format has become.
Good luck to Talkradio, but don't expect much that is new or different from what went before The two main tv shows at teatimes are quiz based so what about a fun quiz at 6 or 7 like they had on Century radio 20 years ago. |

Also we have the BBC who have always been strong on speech. I do think there is room for a more personallty lead station but I fear they are going back to the 90s.

Shares Radio was established before D2 came along. I think the inclusion of the station enables costs to be saved by not setting up another business radio station, but there are still slots to be filled on Talk Radio, and a business show may fill one of those slots.

Didn't the original Talk Radio have a quiz? I'm sure I can vaguely remember one.
In fact I think it might have had Dale Winton as one of its presenters |

Iain Lee 10pm to 1am might be a bit different if it is anything like his old LBC or Absolute shows.

It all sounds rather interesting. And for some reason, I am thinking that Tommy Boyd must be in the line-up.
