The results are as follows:

Paul Ross - 2 callers (both sounded as though they had been called back).
JHB - 1 caller who just happened to be Dennis from Dunstable.
Jon Holmes - 6 callers; all seemingly set up beforehand for the purposes of games/jokes.
Sam Delaney - No callers
Gould Bros. - 4 callers
Iain Lee (from Monday night) - 19 callers (several of them sounded like they were called back).

Make of that what you will but I retract my assertion that the callers had increased since last Monday... ”

It will take time that's for sure, but I still think that the main thing putting people off is cost. I know I'd call more if it didn't cost so much (even if I know they'll call me back on Iain's show) but I'm not sure if the other shows will call people back, and I also dislike the fact that you're connected instantly and then charged from that point whilst you wait to have the call answered. Especially bad if you're phoning Iain Lee after midnight and he's doing straight to air as you could be connected for a while, but not on air (if that makes sense).

And listening to the last hour of Iain's show from last night it sounds like the phone system was totally screwed. In fact I have a couple of spare dect handsets here that are fit for the tip, but might offer them to him as an alternative to the TalkRadio phone system!

Indeed. Who's going to call, only to be left hanging and then not get to air anyway thanks to a dodgy phone system.

It's clear from comments that whilst in the queue, they don't hear the live feed, either, but muzak, which isn't very enticing.

Maybe they should rephrase that to "we'll get our studio guests and pre-prepared callers talking"

I listened on the first day, and found it odd, about the lack of callers, but i put that down to it being their first day - Paul Ross - one caller from New Zealand, very early on, when a lot of people were not listening, and then one call from his Mum, later on

I come on here, and read they are still lacking callers

Somehow i don't think Gaunty is quaking in his boots, any talkradio is good

An 18 second dump button, my goodness, don't expect anyone with controversial views to speak on talkradio”

Blighty76 said JHB took one call yesterday from 10am-1pm - how many did Jon take during his show at the same time?

To those moaning about the call cost....

Talksport uses an even higher rate number and gets plenty of calls. I think it's part of the business model, so although its a free country etc etc, you can moan all you like, but I doubt it'll make a difference...
Talksport:

Studio:
Telephone 08717 22 33 44
Calls to this number will cost 13 pence per minute plus your providers' access charge.
Text 81089 (texts cost 50p + your standard network rate)

Yep - you don't get the live feed. I think I just got trailers for TalkRadio itself.

It's on DAB, therefore subject to Ofcom rules, hence delay needed.

Personally, I wouldn't care if they stopped DAB as I now only listen online. Online only means swearing, sexually explicit chat etc. would then be allowed. But you still have to obey the country's libel laws.

Just thinking aloud. Seeing as there is such a lack of callers overall, anyone fancy a challenge to see if they can get on every show in one day? Or is that just going to be too expensive!

However for me personally the best radio has always been about good debates and, dare I say arguments, between caller and host. I can call on 100 podcasts in my iTunes subs that offer two or more witty commentators just talking about a topic or making jokes. Radio is not podcasting.

At least SOME callers some of the time would be nice and perhaps with patience it will happen.

As a presenter who I know is a big fan favourite on these forums might say, "If you build it, they will come".”

talkRADIO definitely needs more callers and I hope they sort something out very soon. Making the calls free would surely open the floodgates so I hope they will try and do that.

I would have liked someone else other than Paul Ross doing the weekday breakfast show, he's alright but I just would have liked someone with more OOMPH!.

I'm really impressed with the Julia Hartley-Brewer, Jon Holmes and Jonny & Ash shows.

Sam Delaney I never rated on talkSPORT so haven't even listened and Iain Lee [who admittedly I have only heard bits of so far] I don't think is going to be my ideal my cup of tea.

I appreciate he's a lot of people's favourite presenter but I'm not sure he's mine he's a bit full of himself and all on, people probably can't stand Julia Hartley-Brewer and Jonny & Ash so I'm not being unkind it's simply we're all different and like different things. Who knows it's still very early days and I might get to like him eventually and to be fair I've not given him much chance yet I suppose.

The 2 Mikes overnight are funny in my view, as long as they keep off football they're alright by me, yes it's mostly irrelevant nonsense what they're broadcasting but at that time of night I enjoy it especially the 'Porky Quizzes'.

The Howard Hughes show I enjoyed last Sunday night even though I'm not really into all that kind of thing so I will be listening again next Sunday.

Alexis Conran I thought was great and so informative in the field he covers, Eamonn Holmes was alright I hope he keeps the quality of his guests high and it'll always be a good listen.

So it seems JHB will call you back, but when I called in the woman who answered the phone seemed in shock that the phone rang!

Most of the time it is, but usually, except for James O'Brien's show, if callers are on the phone for a while, that is an indication that the lines aren't very busy. James O'Brien is currently off so this wouldn't have been a factor in your research. Sometimes hegives callers a long time due to the nature of their call and what they add to the debate.

If they start getting a similar number of calls to LBC we'll be in a better position to know how much they want callers. The slogan "we'll get you talking" indicates that they do want more callers than they are gettting.

Even if they get just a few more callers, if those callers are wanted, interviews will become shorter. Some interviews are quite long.

In other words, he would also be struggling for callers were it not for his previous radio work.

They will definitely call you back. You won't be waiting long for somebody to answer if you call TalkRadio. You won't always be spoken to straight away when you call LBC and your call is connected.

In the days that I called LBC (2006-2007) they had an 0870 number. Not as expensive as talkRADIO but even then people complained about the call cost. Yet it was sometimes difficult to get onto Iain's or Clive's show and so the producer would be selecting which callers to put on.

Have there been any TV advertisements for talkRADIO or is that out of the question given the budget for the station?

Unless you read forums like these or listen to talkSPORT I'm not sure how you would be aware of talkRADIO

I gave Talk Radio a go yesterday. I heard the last half hour of Paul Ross and most of Julia Hartley-Brewer's show and thought it was quite a good listen, but they could do with more audience input. Maybe the cost of calls as others have mentioned is putting people off and they need to address this.

Not sure 'we have ways of making you talk' is the most tasteful slogan though....

I've seen Bilboards in London and in the print media e.g. Metro who are advertising talkRadio.

Virgin Radio are also apparently relaunching today.

I have seen no adverts online or anything and from what I've seen the billboards and print have mainly been London centric which seems weird for a national station.

I'm surprised that they're putting out so many sport themed adverts. Are they sharing ad inventory with TalkSport or maybe giving existing advertisers with Talk Sport a freebie until Talk Radio finds its feet?

Also surprising is that they haven't got split trailers during the overnight simulcast with TalkSport.

Its 'We'll get you talking'

It is mainly that but I've heard "we have ways of making you talk" (or something similar) a few times too. IIRC a couple of presenters have referenced this.

There is a problem with the travel. When ever they go to the travel it sounds like a toilet is being flushed. I haven't heard that on other stations. Usually if there is a problem there is silence except for the travel music.

listened to jhb .. and im wondering do we really need this obnoxious type of host .. shes a misfit in terms of tr but ideal for lbc baiting ukip-ers.

sam delaney is wholly boring.

just hope they dont go full on lbc style anti immigrant/islamophobia/ukip/tory agenda .. uk really needs an entertainment talkradio station.

JHB taking to Emily Thornberry at lunchtime was a good listen. Good subjects & never boring i wish they drop ' We get you talking' when so few are.
Personally it does not bother me as long as their are good guess & topics.

Indeed because nobody talks and nobody listening I guess...so no fear for LBC so far, they have the listeners and the callers....
