You may be right.

Even after Brussells, it felt ok to have a daft show on for the afternoon as an escape.

I'm not sure you could have got away with that at drive. Well, I'd have been fine with it, but maybe others would find offence.

Maybe the 7pm slot would be better?

If you go back to October 2005, on LBC Iain Lee was moved from late nights weekends to 4-7 weekdays to replace Daisy Sampson, and then to 3-6.30 in January 2006. That was seen to be very bold at the time but Iain got far more listeners. (Iain used to regularly quote the RAJAR figures). It is seen by many Iain Lee fans as his finest work. Jon Holmes, and occasionally Nick Abbot, would sit in for him. However, despite the show's success, the pressure to put on a more sensible drivetime show was too great and Iain was moved to 7-10 pm in January 2007 which is always a bit of graveyard slot as it is the main TV watching time.

Nick Abbot used to do 7-10pm on Talk Radio in the late 90s and said in 2006 that Iain would do well in that slot. I thought Iain's show was still excellent in the evening, however callers were a bit thinner on the ground. Iain said that on drivetime, he and Agent Chris had a lot of choice of callers and it was quite hard to get on.

However, at the same time Jon Holmes was given Friday drivetime (Monday to Thursday was Paul Ross) and it was a comedy phone-in, although there was one Friday when he did serious topics, which was a mystery at the time. I think Jon could do pretty much any slot, and indeed he's pretty much done all slots from breakfast to drivetime. I haven't heard him in the evening though. Maybe he doesn't want to work in the evenings?

I wonder who will be sitting in for Jon and Iain when they go on holiday?

Personally speaking, I think they should leave Jon Holmes where he is, I think it works where it is & is a real alternative to other afternoon shows.

I like this new music segment. Victoria Derbyshire used to do this on 5 Live. It's perfect. 2 guests just picking new releases and going through them. I also enjoyed Yasmeen's interview with an author after 5 although I was only half listening. She's very good at what she does. It's a pity she's only on once a week.

Agreed. Yasmeen was a welcome surprise after a week of Delaney whe I heard her first show last week. She is a little bit BBC but very personable.

Yasmeen is polished, while Sam Delaney is let's say a bit rough around the edges

I happened to listen to an hour of the two Mikes (my first time) when I downloaded the wrong files after last week's clock change (annoyingly it also meant I missed the first hour of Iain..!)

Do they generally spend their time shouting at and insulting each other...?

Hate to keep banging on about it, but seriously I think station management must be getting pretty anxious by now.

I listened all day at work today then just caught up with the Gould Bros bits that I missed and...

1 caller for the whole day across all shows.

Going to bed and will listen to Iain in the morning, pretty much assured that his show will be the life and soul of the schedule.

I'll start working my way through the list now and continue over the weekend. By the time I've fininshed, I should have a better idea of what subjects/guests I should explore further.

The last podcast I listened to was the recent Mark Devlin one. I could sense Howard's frustration with Mark as he made bold claims of mass mind control but completely failed to back any of them up!

Thanks again mate. I'm looking forward to Sunday night for the next Howard Hughes show!”

You're most welcome Martyn. Of course you will decide for yourself which you think are most listenable, and that may well include ones from the last 18 months I've omitted, never mind all the way back a lot further. My taste may not be yours though. On iTunes where I download them from it usually gives decent descriptions of what to expect. I'm about to get one to take to bed with me now infact. I'm sure Howard himself would probably be rather pleased I am promoting a few of his podcasts on the TalkRadio thread here. Infact there is a Howard Hughes Unexplained Podcasts thread in one of the forums that I've posted on before a few times but gets rarely used. I'll have to track it down and give it a bump as they say, as there is bound to be renewed interest now.

Yes!

I was listening to Iain Lee on Wednesday night with a headache in bed. Awoke at about 1.50am to hear the pair of them going at it. How that was in my ears for nearly an hour without me realising I cannot comprehend. Certainly wasn't a headache cure that's for sure. Listened a couple of minutes and off it went. They've become tedious together, I prefer the one Mike, namely Graham.

The Saturday 6 - 8am Best of Iain Lee seems to have been replaced with Eamonn Holmes Let's Talk.

I used to try and leave work at exactly 5:30pm so I could catch as much Iain Lee as possible on my 1 hour drive home when he did afternoons on LBC. Great show. LBC is far less entertaining these days. Too much news.

Thanks. I found the thread from 2013 mate. I'm not sure whether to bump that thread or start a new 'Howard Hughes The Unexplained on TalkRadio' thread. I'm sure I'm not the only new recruit to the Howard Hughes podcast ranks as a result of his new TalkRadio show and it would be good to have somewhere to discuss the show/podcast without bothering the general TalkRadio thread.

I've listened to the podcast with Gadget Detective Fevzi Turkalp and it was excellent. Scared the hell out of me. Getting you to think about things outside ordinary day-to-day existence is exactly why I like the podcasts and the Fevzi Turkalp one is an excellent example.

I also enjoyed the Missing 411 podcasts very much.

Short answer is yes they do. It's mostly irrelevant rubbish but just now and then there's golden nuggets which are funny, my favourite bit of the whole week is the Porky quiz which I download and keep.

The Battle of Britain.

I think Iain Lee is getting a tad fed up of the useless phone system, he said all he needs is his big mouth, callers, and a phone system that works and he ain't got them all.

I notice that's been changed on the website too. Iain was plugging it just before his show finished at 1 o'clock this morning, saying it would be on in 5 hours. The website is now saying it will be on tomorrow morning. Next Saturday 6am is also Eamonn Holmes.

I don't think the lack of callers is due to the phone system. If it was, Iain wouldn't be the only one complaining.

A reason that may not have been covered, is that they move on from a subject so quickly potential callers may think that discussion has finished.

This station must have the worst "Listen Again" ever, on smart phones anyway.

If you listen via a web browser, shows are split into 30 minute chunks. You can't listen in the background, you cant even put your phone on standy.

Via the app you can listen in the background but if you go back into the app it takes it back to the schedule page and you have to find your way to the show again.

Come on, Talk Radio. Even Radio X have this sorted.

Love the way Iain Lee sets up Steve Allen and BBC Three Counties. Tried to listen to the two Mikes. IT WAS ALL SPORT!

I generally do it myself - use the url format kindly supplied earlier in this topic as follows:

http://cdn.talksport.com/talkradio/a...01_0900_LA.mp3

and just change the date in your address bar. Then just play the mp3s in your own app.

There are hours when they don't talk football but I'm not sure what times they are.

I've already warmed to the Iain Lee show and it's what I wanted so that's great. I'd never really heard him before last week but he's good at his job, I like his callers and I love the music intros he plays.
