It all sounds rather interesting. And for some reason, I am thinking that Tommy Boyd must be in the line-up.
Let's hope so.🙂

Looking forward to hearing George Galloway again. I don't always agree with him but he always gets a reaction, which is what talk radio should be. There should be a slot for Danny Baker, I wonder whats happening on the weekend............I hope its not fishing Saturday morning
No reason there should be
Talksport IS still there for that 😄

Not sure if you ever listened to Danny Baker on BBC London, he is much more than sport. He can do no research turn up 5 mins before going on air and produce fantastic radio. Radio needs mavericks (especially talkradio) people who take chances, he certainly is that. His Saturday shows on Radio 5Live are nothing to what his BBC London shows where.

How long before Galloway starts threatening legal action against callers who say things he doesnt like?
Hope so Galloway is at his best when he gets annoyed. I want to have a bit of friction on any talk radio station........after all that's what talk radio should be.

I'm a bit lost as to why you've quoted me there
I'm well aware of Danny's work and listened online to his shows from London
I've mentioned Talksport twice
Once when someone mentioned using talk radio for football commentary
And the other regarding the poster saying he hoped there wouldn't be a fishing show on Talkradio
As I said to both they have Talksport for that at the moment and Talksport 2 joining it
What with the footie on absolute and five live there should be no need for Talk Radio to have any sport at all should there ??

Iain Lee 10pm to 1am might be a bit different if it is anything like his old LBC or Absolute shows.
Yes exactly
Iain and Nick would be great to have on the station plenty do news based talk shows, we need something different,.

I don't think he'd have time to do a daily show now. He's so busy writing for TV/his books, and he's always entertaining on Twitter, especially his spat with the "corporate chump" who wrote a blog about radio presenters who he claimed were "unemployable" - Lee, Gaunt and Baker. Chump indeed!

What type of show will Paul Ross be doing? Will it be showbiz and entertainmenty which is what he is known for? Light like BBC London or be hard news to go up against LBC?

I think I would prefer him to a fun variety show similar to Chris Evans with celebrity interviews which he does well in and then have that hard news at the top and middle of the hours. So that through the hour you have serious-fun-serious-fun

As mentioned in several posts and in the article on the Talksport web page they are going for presenter led magazine style so certainly on Paul's show I'm thinking it's not going to be too serious

IMO they should let Paul Ross do what he is (quite) good at and do the lighter topics as others have said-- leave the hard news to JHB from 10 AM.

talkradio will be a good welcome addition, as we only have LBC - however i used to listen the original talkradio / talksport - until they gave up and did 24 hours sport. LBC is good but i just could not get into it, as i mainly used to listen late of a night,

The one place i did end up was listening to us talk radio, - the best one i found was a show called coast to coast AM - i get it on my mobile app via KABC almost everynight they have some interesting alternative chat from heath to ufo to political chat

but do hope this station has more of the origianl talk radio had, which is a good mix of light and heavy chit chat - lets see

I will check it out. Let's see what they have midweek after 7pm.....

The main question for me will be: Does this sound like an attempt to recreate a model which......failed.

can we assume that overnights (from 1 AM) they'll carry talksport? would make sense as the 2 Mikes show is pretty low on Sport mainly because neither of them know very much about it... *waits for Porky's defenders to take me down*

I wondered that, but not sure if that conflicts with the basis of the new license. I'd prefer to hear non sport talk overnight, although as you say the two Mikes are not predominantly sport based anyway. Still, it would be nice to have an alternative, and preferably not the boresome likes of Collins or Whale.

I also wondered which other presenters might make the switch from TalkSPORT similar to Sam Delaney. Matt Forde, John Richardson and even Danny Kelly, are probably capable of producing non sport based output. (Apologies to the purists for putting Danny Kelly in the same sentence as Matt Forde!)

As much as I liked Tommy Boyd back in the day, I am not sure his escapades with PlayRadio UK reflected too well on him. I'm not sure how much was 'showmanship' or if he's getting eccentric as he gets older.

I tried listening to the 2 Mikes last night, but Porky is just too irritating and stupid to tolerate. How these two have made a career out of that act is a mystery to me. Mike Graham sounds so bored having to listen to Porky's drivel. Put him out of his misery and give him a solo show on the new station. He's so much better doing a general phone in as he used to.

Do you think the " Moon Howlers "like Nigel, Andy from dumbarton, Tommy the taxi, would come back on ?

What exactly are the licence terms? I would have thought that there would be few restrictions, aside from the usual rules about taste and decency. Given that digital stations come and go all the time, I would have thought that something as trivial as overnight simulcasting would be allowed.

Am surprised no one has mentioned James Whale on this thread.. He'd fit in to this station easily.. Weekend late night slot to recreate the 10 until 1am days?? Great radio

I think you're right, but when they bid for the license, I thought they had to say things like his much music is allowed vs speech and possibly how much content will be live vs repeated or simulcasted.

For example, if whoever makes the decision on the license saw an application saying they would simulcast 8 hours a day, they might be tempted to award the license to another bidder who would offer live 24/7.

I have no clue on these things, so just guessing.

Out of interest Radamfi, are you going to be recording Iain's shows? I seem to recall you doing an excellent job of this in the past!!

He's very busy doing several shows for the Beeb and also has his own weekly James Whale show podcast which his fans can access and join in with on Facebook
Sorry you think he's a muppet but speaking as a friend I'd venture to say you are mistaken

I'd be thrilled to bits if Mike Graham comes back to host a show on his own on the new talk radio
After Ian Collins and James Whale I'd venture to say he's the best presenter the station ever had
Though had Mike Dickin still been with us he was head and shoulders above them all
