It's an awful thing to admit after 3 hours of radio tonight, but that one caller with his crank call remote viewing of a hairy Marilyn Monroe is the one memorable call, made more amusing because Howard was so slow to realise he was being had. I suppose it was just that callers own unique way of saying to Howard and his guests that he thought remote viewing was absolute fabrication.

He's admitted to needing to learn a few lessons tonight for future shows on air, so fair enough. I think next weekend will be a far better show because of it. As with his podcasts, he always seems to genuinely want feedback on how to make improvements.
Must admit I did have a laugh at that call it was funny but also did feel sorry for Howard knowing how passionate he is about making this show a success. The caller obviously thought it was a load of tosh and was just taking the mickey out of the whole proceedings. I agree I do feel it will improve these are early days

He's done one with a lady, Dr Judy Wood - podcast #185, questioning why the twin towers so easily turned to dust on his podcast in the past 18 months already. But he has never gone near anything associated with Diana, and I don't expect him to do so either. At one point tonight he did make a point of using the word "entertainment" to remind listeners. He's not expecting it all to be taken at face value, far from it.
Never heard that podcast...... but it was quite obvious the government had a demolition team plant explosives in the building for any such terrorist act.
And we all know Phil The Greek probably had a hand in that car crash.

I'm sure talkRADIO will enlighten us more in good time.

Got on board with Iain Lee's #bullshine thing last night and listened along to Howard. I lasted about half an hour before I got frustrated and bored up - not for me.

But on the bright side... a prank call is at least a call.

Before it went to all sports the weekly listeners was standing at 3.2 million per week and total listening hours (which brings in the money) at 21.1 million per week. After the change the weekly listeners went down to 2.9 million and weekly hours 18.7 million it currently stands at for the December 2015 period: Listeners 3 million and weekly hours 18.1 million. Information via https://media.info/radio/stations/ta...tening-figures . The Rajar figures do not lie there it is in black and white!! Listening hours are most important for advertising revenue (i.e. bringing the money in)
The audience figures did go down initially after they changed to sport, but the advertising revenue increased and the station turned from loss-making to profitable.

This happened primarily because the audience demographic shifted to 25-44 year old males, a section of the audience that many advertisers want to target. It isn't just about the headline RAJAR numbers, the demographics of the audience are more important.

It's early days but all the indications are that the current talkRADIO is struggling to get an audience (and advertisers). This company is a PLC and the shareholders will only give it a certain amount of time before they demand changes (as with UTV Ireland). I'll be surprised if The Wireless Group is still an independent company at the end of this year, Bauer must be looking on with interest.

Poor Howard just got pranked with his first call tonight on the Unexplained with his discussion about remote viewing. He had a perfectly legitimate sounding guy talking for a couple of minutes before he began going on about remote viewing Marilyn Monroe and discovering she was quote - "as hairy as a porn star" and that he was amazed she never shaved her body. Awkward moment, Howard asks him to get back on track with his actual question he rang up with, and silence. He'd been a bit slow to twig he'd just been done up good and proper.
Listeners to Iain Lee may recognise the caller. It took me to just before he did the prank to realise who it was!

There is more advertising than I expected on the new talkRADIO and wouldn’t say it’s at low levels at all. There is certainly more than the early days and maybe most of the life of the original Talk Radio UK. I suspect this has been achieved by tagging it onto advertising sold for talkSPORT – similar to what Bauer does with Absolute and the City network.

In fact I am guessing this is part of TWG’s whole rationale with the two new national stations – to build upon the advertising success talkSPORT has at reaching 25-44 year old males. talkRADIO has a lot more of a male bias than the original station, Virgin has a male bias too.

I’ll be interested to see what happens to TWG – I think there’s place for a stronger Number 3 radio group and I would like to see it survive and grow but I suspect they are ripe for a takeover.

I'm a big fan of Howard's podcasts but this show on TalkRadio tonight is very poor by his standards.

Give it a miss Billy, he's done far far better with decent guests. Ghosts after midnight, it won't improve much.
Before just popping on here I downloaded the full show and stuck it on my MP3 player but I am going to take your advice Rich and delete it off because I want to get to like this show and I fear if I hear this one it just might put me off listening to him in future.

I'm sure it'll improve very soon.

I'm becoming a big fan of the podcast so it pains me to say this, but I have to agree with Rich on last night's show. The first show was good and showed plenty of promise but I can't help thinking that last night might have put some people off listening again. Still, early days I suppose.

I'm off work today so I'm going to give TalkRadio's daytime content a try.

Apart from the football/cricket, I listened all weekend and was quietly impressed. Property and cars aren't my cup of tea but I thought the shows were decent. It's going to be great having a non-sport speech radio alternative over the weekends in future.

The prank itself I thought was pretty rubbish but the guy himself was really good and convincing with it, not that I'm applauding interrupting Howard's show with pranks but it's a pity the bloke didn't do justice with better content to his expertise at doing them.

I enjoyed the show but found JHB's constantly giving out the number, and begging listeners to tell all their friends about the station, faintly embarassing.

I don't think that's embarrassing. She knows her audience is small, and knows that a lot of people have simply not heard of TalkRadio, so she is suggesting listeners spread the word.

I phoned the JHB show some time last week. Happened to be listening, knew something about the subject so phoned. I figured that if we all sat here moaning about no one calling in and didn't do it ourselves then we were being a bit hypocritical. The woman who answered the phone seemed in shock that it had actually rung!

BTW - saw this poster in Halfords earlier today. Rather strange that TalkRadio isn't mentioned on it. https://twitter.com/BeingMrsC/status/716951934167597056

Overall I think the promotion of TalkRadio has been poor. Bearing in mind they seemed to promise lots of publicity, (like that mentioned here: http://www.campaignlive.co.uk/articl...tories/1387386 ) I'm left wondering what happened to it!

I've been wandering around London and Manchester today and saw no end of Virgin Radio posters, so that's where the company's publicity is going.

Are you kidding...? It's not just strange, it's bonkers. If I were a presenter putting my heart and soul into this new station I'd be pretty annoyed at that.

It's a random selection of new and old stations though - SDN and D1.

Not sure you can read too much into it - might just be stations that supposedly test well with halfords customers etc

Totally agree - must be so demoralising when you know no effort is being put into telling people that the station even exists! As radamfi has said, it seems like quite a lot has gone into promoting Virgin, but I'm wondering if that has anything to do with Branson himself. He never launches anything without a big fanfare, and whilst I know it's not actually run by him it has the Virgin name so he will have an influence over how things are done.

For crying out loud. I can't even get all uppity without someone coming on here waving reasonable points in my face...
