When opening the lines to win meat, Jon Holmes still asks people to text in, rather than dial the 0844 number.

This weeks Jon Holmes podcast is a good one. A few bits is forgotten too - including the show being subject to delays due to storm Katie and 'still closed to high sided listeners'. 'Listeners are also reminded the Selco Builders warehouse advert remains blocked due to a fallen tree across the catchy jingle'.

![]() The bit I've highlighted just looks so damned funny written like that. What can you win, a leg of lamb, pork chops, joint of beef and a pound of extra lean mince? Very weird. |

Personally, I think Jon Holmes has the best show, can't remember the last time I laughed out loud at a radio show, especially that time of day, a real alternative to what else is on at that time of the afternoon.

They should of launched the station properly and employed various methods to make the required demographic aware of the stations existence. An advertising campaign also adverts on the talkSPORT website and radio adverts on talkSPORT. The lack of callers could be attributed to 2 things: firstly the lack of listeners because hardly anyone knows talkRADIO exists, and secondly most people would be using a mobile to phone in and it could well cost them a fortune to phone in. Talk radio stations need callers otherwise it's one way traffic and that isn't the way it should be. The solution to lack of callers: a proper publicity campaign posters along major motorways, radio adverts, newspaper adverts etc. Also make the phone number free or very inexpensive from mobiles & landlines that will most certainly liven things up.

Some good points Daz. I remember the original launch back in 1995. It was the complete opposite and quite a rum do. I remember newspaper adverts, billboards and a TV advert featuring half a dozen presenters like Anna Raeburn and Caesar the Geezer. It certainly made an impact on me because I started listening from day 1.
It was mainly that, that piqued my interest in listening to it from the start. Even if it didn't have much shock, i still loved the station nonetheless. Probably more than i do now with its lack of callers. |

I agree with the points about publicising the station.

When they launched the original Talk Radio UK they did everything right which is why it was a success with no shortage of callers. All the boxes were ticked lots of advertising, controversial and interesting presenters and a free phone number! Though they did revert to a paid number a few years later at least that got the ball rolling.

The Gould brothers don't even seem to ask for callers? They read out a tweet from me almost instantaneously.
Quite enjoyed the show but it's going to get tired of it's just one way. Also the social media "expert" they had on didn't seem to have a clue what she was talking about. |

Not listened to any other output though, I will admit. I usually listen to alot of 5Live and Radio 4 and there's been nothing yet that's made me want to switch over at other times. I'm going to give Jake Yapp a go on Sunday morning, I've been lacking something to listen to early doors on the weekend since Jon moved! [/relurk] |

Well if I'm typical of the average listener.
I tuned in at the start. Sounded OK, but lacked callers. i would have called and joined in, however not when it will cost me to call the station. It should be an 03 number at the very least. After a day or so I lost interest as it was the same old boring sound. No real cutting edge and not listened since. I even forget it exists. |
