Iain Lee said tonight that he thinks that since yesterday, TalkRadio has began attracting new listeners through their poster campaign. That is good news. Hopefully it will mean there are more calls.

It does surprise me, that considering how high profile some of their guests have been in terms of reaching thousands of talkative people on social media, that the amount of interaction hasn't significantly increased.

Brian Hayes is 78 years of age now, and is enjoying his retirement. He enjoys going to the theatre, concerts, cinema and galleries. He might do the odd cameo radio work if asked but I think it's highly unlikely he'd want a regular gig now.

I remember that, but it was called 'The Wonderful Hour'........ he also did 'The Angry Hour' as well, which was earlier in the week.
I'd also be more than happy to see him back on TR, at any time slot, he was my favourite daytime presenter on the old TR.

Where are these posters? I know there are some sophisticated billboards in London, but apart from that are there others? But I had not thought about the potential social media exposure of having lots of guests and it probably does help publicising the station even if we haven't really noticed the effect in terms of calls.

I just called up Iain and I got called back within a few seconds. When on hold you now hear the station output. If I recall correctly, some people were saying that you only got hold music. I asked him who would be sitting in for him but he didn't know. But he will be having his first holiday on 30 August.

He might have been at his peak, I didn't hear him. The presenter I heard for several years was a wheezing,slurring bore whose shows seemed to be a loop of parking tickets, speeding tickets and immigration.

There's a story about him in a talkSPORT book. He was one of the first to present a show that wasn't from the studio, his was from the basement of a dentist with an ISDN line. He arrived 20 minutes before his show, plugged the kit in and checked it was working properly. Then, doubtlessly previously lubricated, went for a lie down on a couch and fell asleep. Studio couldn't get through to wake him and had to get, I think, Mike Mendoza to go on air at a minute's notice.

The Wonderful Hour, yes! Thanks for the correction Jeff. Now you mention it, I can also remember The Angry Hour. Wow, it must be the best part of 20 years ago now?

Tommy Boyd definitely had a slightly arrogant edge to him, so I can understand where people are coming from when they say that, but he was a good listen in my opinion.

I only remember Dickin on talkRADIO/talkSPORT whichever one he last did.. found him most dull and boring, never saw the attraction.
Tommy Boyd, LOVED the Human Zoo, but his stint on Play Radio put me RIGHT off him.. don't know if that was part of his 'act' or not, but if so I just didn't get it, it was horrible from a listener POV...
If he could come back with a Human Zoo format it would be amazing... but apparently tR are not interested. Probably for the best.

You may or may not have heard a caller ask Iain who his "understudy" was going to be tonight on his show. He simply said he did not know and that he's not having a night off until 30th August anyway.

Don't forget that James is also doing his weekly James Whale Radio Show podcast nowadays too, with a producer sidekick Rob Oldfield, a bit like Ash in his Talksport evening show days up to March 2008. Must admit I've got a bit of a backlog of those to catch up with. He gets decent guests. This week is his 133rd show, which began late 2013.

Watching Iain Lee's live studio feed Friday night on periscope made me think are they missing a trick. Maybe they should have a permanent 24 hour live studio camera with a prominent link on the website. It might help with getting the listeners more involved with the proceedings which is what they really need to be doing.

Out of curiosity I wondered how much the mobile networks would be charging for a call to an 0844 number with a standard pay as you go account. Below are some of the most popular networks and what they charge per minute with the 7p talkRADIO added on as well. You can see why this would make it awkward for some people to phone in, on some networks just being on the line for a couple of minutes will cost over a pound!!

Asda Mobile 8ppm + 7ppm = 15ppm
BT 10ppm + 7ppm = 17ppm
EE 7ppm + 7ppm = 14ppm
O2 45ppm + 7ppm = 52ppm
Tesco Mobile 25ppm + 7ppm = 32ppm
Three 45ppm + 7ppm = 52ppm
Vodafone 45ppm + 7ppm = 52ppm

52 pence per minute..!?

I was considering plucking up courage to call in the daytime to support the station but at that cost you must be joking.

It is a bit pricey for some networks not sure if you could use inclusive minutes if you have them on your plan, I suspect they would not be included for service calls i.e. 084.. 09.. 118.. numbers. They would do well to change to an 0800 free phone number and pick up the bill, might cost them 50k+ a year but I can imagine that would make a huge difference with the volume of calls they are receiving.

Ash Gould is back on talkRadio. I never understood the appeal of that guy and still don't. He comes across as a monosyllabic moron who sounds permanently bored stiff. I don't know if its an act or real, but f its an act someone should tell him that he's no Karl Pilkington. If its real then guess tR is short of talent right now and he's just filler.

Incidentaly, I'm assuming him and Johnny Gould are not real brothers given the difference in their accents.

At one time he had a different hour every day. One of my favourites,which has now been remodelled by Mr O'Brien, was Big and Small. People would phone up with either a question or an answer to a previous question.

So that's why my LBC posts kept disappearing.
