Have you noticed how some of the work experience pundits are getting pretty good - I really like Ellie's hipster nonsense.

Howard Hughes Unexplained went past un-mentioned on Sunday night and during Monday I see. I really was disappointed that he returned to that quite daft nonsense of the Loch Ness monster yet again and a supposed first sighting in 2016. That monster is presumably immortal, as it's been mooted for centuries and the concept that it might actually expire one day if it ever even existed seems lost on people. I zoned out on this discussion.

Then later we had the astrologer, name I now forget. For the second week in a row the latter part of the show had listeners ringing or texting in their dates of birth for the woman to give a reading. Enough of this! That is as dull and also fraudulent as radio can get. Tell me that people don't really love listening to astrologers on radio shows.

The other guests were a decent listen however, just a shame one of them was hurried up, when it's a long three hour show on a Sunday night. It felt inflexible. Do TalkRadio want Howard to fit too many stories into this show incase listeners get bored? This show demands some decent depth like his podcasts.

I'd already heard the Uri Geller interview a couple of years ago which sounded like it was a direct lift from his Unexplained podcast. I don't blame him for bringing some of it onto TalkRadio as he has a good deal of archives worth giving a wider hearing.

I'd like to hear astronomer Heather Couper back on the show for a really decent chat for half of one of his shows in the future sometime, maybe about dark matter and dark energy. Now that remains real and unexplained.

I heard some of the Loch Ness nonsense, which was clearly just some guy plugging his website. Even this so-called sighting was just a shadow in the water, but yet again, Howard let that pass without any meaningful questioning.

When I l then heard him trail his final hour as being a recorded interview with Uri Geller and another with Patrick Moore, I decided to switch over. I don't really want to hear old material, and certainly not with the awful Geller, who despite being exposed by James Randi again and again, somehow still seems to manage to get work! Incredible what people will believe sometimes.

Not being a follower of Howard Hughes shows in the past nor much to do with Uri Geller either what do you mean by "exposed by James Randi again and again" was he a fake all along [Geller] I'm fascinated in finding out Makeba?.

I've just downloaded last Sunday's HH show, have to admit I've not really been listening to it much but I haven't given up on it, not yet any way.

Randi was originally a stage magician and used to go on shows doing the things Geller did, showing how everything was just a trick. Randi would ask Geller to re-create his 'psychic' skills, but with small changes in the equipment used, which Randi knew would make the magic trick impossible. Geller refused every time. There was a long ongoing and public feud between them for a while.

Julia Hartley Brewer is generating some real enthusiasm on Talk this morning/afternoon with an interesting array of guests. Such a contrast to the weary tired repetitive effort presented on LBC at this time of day! I wonder how many like me have switched over?

Pardon my ignorance on this matter but I have to be honest and say I never understood how Geller did the spoon bending thing it just confused me whenever I saw it.
So it's a trick and Geller's a mere conjurer/magician but how is it done anyway can you tell me.

It's an easy google or YouTube search.

Fair enough I'll do that, I heard Sunday's show this afternoon and quite enjoyed it, it helps that Howard Hughes has such a great radio voice I could almost listen to him talking about anything.

Uri Geller is a magician who denies he's a magician and attempts to make us believe magic really exists. Even the fab Penn & Teller have stated on TV quite recently that there is no such thing as "magic" but just "trickery". James Randi has absolutely debunked Geller long ago, and can do the same as Geller anyway. So could you. Geller simply refused point blank to use his alleged powers under properly controlled conditions. Says it all really. He can only bend spoons and other tricks under his own set of rules and not someone else's.

Marcus Allen the moon denier from Nexus Magazine on Sunday really irritated me. There are times when I actually wonder if these people who make the case that we never went to the moon truly believe what they are saying or are simply being a kind of "moon troll" just for sheer effect and publicity. Where were all these deniers way back when the Apollo landings were actually taking place? It seems that these people have come out of the woodwork only in the past few years, encouraged by the internet to state all kinds of bizarre beliefs. If you've successfully faked something once why would you need to fake it again, and again, and again, and again, and again?

Same here for multiple reasons, I said similar in another thread a couple of days ago about Howards latest show.

I took the advice given and checked up on Uri Geller last night by searching through several websites and I quickly discovered this one >>http://bit.ly/24K1H52<< which really did expose him publicly especially that appearance on the Johnny Carson show when for once he was asked to be tested not under his own conditions and he was left sat in his chair embarrassed because they had cooked his goose.

I had never known anything about all that so I found it quite interesting thanks for contributing about it.

Talk about giving it both barrels. Guess he's still a bit pee'd off about what happened at BBC London. Can't say I blame him. Also I wonder if he left BBC Berkshire out of choice or was pushed?

Ooh - I missed this - what did he say happened at BBC London? He was moved from breakfast to the 4am slot, which he held for a short time before coming to talkRADIO.

Thanks in advance.

He didn't say anything about what happened but its safe to assume that being moved from the breakfast slot to the graveyard slot probably isn't most presenters idea of a good career move. And they fact they he quickly legged it to talkRadio says it all IMO.

I heard what he was saying just after 7.30 - he was very complimentary about people working in BBC local radio, and said that a lot of them could earn more money elsewhere but stick around because they believe in what local radio does.

But he was more critical of Tony Hall's salary. He also talked about his experiences being paid £200 to do a paper review and being picked up and taken home in a Mercedes - and how Alan Hansen used to get driven home to Liverpool after appearing on Match of the Day at a cost of £500 a trip.

Quite refreshing to hear Paul's views - much like it was to hear Sam Delaney giving his own take on West Ham fans (he's one himself) yesterday.

Did Paul go on to say anything else later in the show?

I would have thought that most people would leave BBC Berkshire to join talkRADIO. Being on talkRADIO is a big deal compared to BBC local radio. Iain was planning to leave BBC Three Counties to join talkRADIO but of course had to leave before the end.

I had to leave for work at 7.45 so what you heard is pretty much what I heard.

He was doing both for a short time because his berkshire show was in the afternoon.

Another excellent hard-hitting beginning to Yasmeen Khan's show.. What a subject. I don't think you have to have experiences of a mental health mental health to have an opinion on that.

I was expecting Galloway to be making his first TalkRadio appearance tonight possibly. If I heard correctly he was going to be doing the Friday night 7pm to 10pm slot, and now the local election is behind us he is able to bring his politics to the show. So where is he in the TalkRadio schedule and why has he not yet appeared?
