I certainly hope you are right Tony-- my only fear is whetherthere will be enough of an audience for this station. Talk Radio as was needed to change to Talksport before being a commertial success, and that was a station with analogue radio coverage, not just a DAB only station on a multiplex that only 75 % of the country can pick up. presenters like Iain Lee will help attract listeners though as he has a large fan base (as well as the LBC types who seem to like tuning in to presenters they don't like just to moan). I just want to see the rest of the schedule now. although I don't like all the presenters they've lined up thus far, there is a range of different styles and so hopefully something to apeal to everyone.

Sort of. All the new stations have started their test transmissions, however talkRADIO, talkSPORT2 and Virgin are currently labelled as "Sound Waves 1", "Sound Waves 2" and "Sound Waves 3" and still broadcasting seaside sounds.

I think Iain Lee was gutted about what happened at BBC3CR. He's grown up a lot since the Absolute days - he's a family man with two kids and a mortgage. The loss of a steady job like that would be a real blow. However, I do think that if he'd still been at 3CR and offered the TalkRadio job he would have taken it. I'm hoping he'll be doing something like Down the Rabbit Hole which was a bit more mainstream than previous stuff but still very funny. I'm also hoping that his producer Katherine appears at Talk too. After all she lives close enough to commute in for a show like that, and she's been tweeting some intriguing things of late...
As for other talent - I too would like to think that Talk will snap up some top talent from around local radio but depending on who they get there may be logistical issues for those who have families rooted elsewhere in the country and don't want to relocate to London. Overall though - I'm excited to see what TalkRadio do and who with. And I'm definitely of the opinion that you don't have to like everyone they employ - after all there's a huge number of podcasts out there is other shoes to fill any gaps when you don't like someone! |

UTV of course have studios in other parts of the country. It must surely be technically possible for a show to be done, say, in Stoke, if it is more convenient for the presenter and if he's doing another show on that UTV station.

Oh no! I've found waves on my DAB but the reception is so poor it's unlistenable! I hope that doesn't mean I won't be able to pick up the new stations in my area! I hope they will ramp up the signal power or whatever they need to do!

The DAB multiplex will only cover 75% of the UK population. However, you might be able to do better with an external aerial (if your radio will accept one), which is quite likely if you are getting a weak signal without one. In any case, there will be an internet stream for those not served by DAB.

Do you know if there's a way I can check if I'm in the 75% or do you think the poor reception indicates I'm probably just outside?
http://www.getdigitalradio.com/ but that's not totally reliable. There is a rough coverage map here: https://twitter.com/jamesrhamilton/s...00345068208130 but there will be small gaps because they aren't using many of the fill in transmitters used by the other national muliplexes. |

I as well have a feeling that Katherine will appear at talkRADIO, she seems mega pissed off at the BBC . |

I don't know if it's me being ignorant, but has this station even got a name yet?

He should feel disappointed. If Talk Radio had th sort of late night host it used to have and TalkSport used to have, Alex Jones, and somebody from the Westborough Baptist Church, as well as others in that category would have featured more than they will in Iain Lee's sort of show.

Please don't start with the 9/11 conspiracy theories again. It's an insult to the relatives of those who died.

Used to listen to the old talk radio allot, what's Scott Chisholm up to these days? still have his last show which I recorded on minidisk!
But Jon Gaunt always seemed to be an overly right-wing racist bigot. And Galloway can just **** off altogether as far as I'm concerned. Should be eating Kitty Kat out of a bowl in Rula Lenska's kitchen ! |
