Are you talking about yesterday's or today's show? Yesterday's first hour was quite heavy.

Today was the first I've heard him, not my cup of tea !

I've now listened to the first 10 minutes of the show and the show hadn't really started by then. There was a bit of studio banter between Jake and Cornelius and talking about Ben Fogle having four dishwashers. He then interviewed a physicist in Canada. Jake has a light-hearted manner even if he's talking about serious stuff. Obviously if you wanted something particularly heavy there are always the usual options of LBC, Five Live and Radio 4.

The stream is still at 64 kbps, so recorded file sizes have increased by a third, but I think it sounds worse than before. The bitrate appears to be constant now, which makes it easier to navigate recordings using VLC and other software which have issues with variable bitrates.

Is it any louder?

Main problem I have with the unofficial podcast links (the listen again 30 minute segments) is that the volume is soooo low.

There are programmes to raise the volume of downloaded MP3's if you want me to point you at one.

I know what you mean about the Listen Again. The stream is louder than Listen Again and I don't think the loundness has changed today.

I have been thinking about getting a portable headphone amp to boost the podcasts with ridiculously low audio levels which make them unlistenable to when walking by a busy road or in a busy pub. I have Rockbox'd my PMP so no problem with music, it is just speech podcasts on my phone.

THanks, but the whole point is that the unofficial links can be put straight into the Podcasts app without any manual effort.

It works great, and actually my head unit in the car will go loud enough to hear - but if I accidentally switch sources -

No worries. I haven't used their listen again yet, and wasn't aware it was via an App. I assumed they were just downloaded.

no the Listen Again is either through the Talk Radio app or on your computer-- I believe the 30 minute files can be downloaded to a computer should you want to. The unofficial podcasts of Iain's shows are brilliant especially now I've been told how to get them in to the podcast app on my Iphone.

The stream name has been fixed now and is called "talkRADIO" again. The stream is still at 64 kbps but has reverted to being variable. I think it sounds better now.

There was yet another new presenter for the 7pm-10pm slot earlier this evening: Hardeep Singh Kohli.

Ooh, I missed that. It's a time slot when I'm usually eating and watching TV rather than have the radio on. Was he any good? I have a feeling I'd quite like him as a talkshow host.

Do you know if it was a guest slot, or is he here to stay?

I only caught the last 10-20 minutes or so but there seemed to be good banter between him and Ed ("Id"). I suspect the bosses are using the gap created by the delayed start for Galloway to try out different people.

Impressively, radiofeeds.co.uk already knows about the increase in bitrate to 64 kbps, so I think it is safe to assume this improvement is permanent.

From there we can see there is now also a 32 kbps AAC+ stream:

http://radio.talkradio.co.uk/stream-mobile

So people who want to save data but maintain reasonable sound quality have also got an option.

I rather like him , his sunday show - which I'm listening to right now - its particularly good. I did briefly switch over to LBC earlier only to hear someone being thanked for giving the latest Syria update. On a sunday morning, are they f***king kidding?? LBC is fast becoming a tedious misery fest.

7 Days of talkRADIO featured three extracts from the early afternoon show this week. Jake Yapp was in for Jon Holmes Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and managed two appearances in those three days. Jon's work experience review of Top Gear was the other one.

Andy Jaye made a special ending for the Sunday repeat this afternoon, "It is 7 Days of talkRADIO, all slotted into a few hours, with the lovely Katherine Boyle."

Well I've just listened to the Unexplained With Howard Hughes since 11pm tonight, I missed the first hour. I want to try and be positive but I'm not happy with the amount of mediums and astrology types he's got coming on this show of his so far. Only a very tiny minority of people believe them anyway, most of us do not. He has a chap on called James Van Praagh who was on for the final hour and waffled on but effectively said nothing much that these types haven't mouthed off time and again. The only piece I did like was when Howard played his guest a clip of James Randi totally debunking him, as Randi does with all these people. His guest then began blathering and resorting to weak abuse which said it all to me.

Howard Hughes will be a guest on Monday night on Iain Lee's show.

To be fair, in his first hour he had some guy talking about the expansion of the universe then kevin warwick talking about cybernetics and AI. Then after the news at 11 it was another scientist talking about SETI so it was pretty science based this week and I enhoyed it.

I suppose with the paranormal stuff, he has to tread a fine line - if he takes the piss he'll rapidly find no one wants to come on but if he treats it too seriously then he looses credibility himself.

Don't forget he's got the grade A gold plated looney tune master himself David Icke on sometime this month. Wonder if purple tracksuits are still de rigeur in the land of the borderline deranged or whether nutter fashion has moved on?

When did Howard say he was going to have Icke on his show? Iain Lee tried to get him on a couple of months ago but Icke kept fobbing him and/or Kath off.

I believe Howard said he was going to interview David Icke during the week and play it out on the show next Sunday.
