It is nonsense because I don't see anything wrong in having Jon Holmes doing his normal, funny show, regardless of what is happening in the world. They let Jon present on the day of the Brussels attacks. As it stands now, talkRADIO have paid three people to do that 3 hour slot, when the money would be better spent on actually publicising the station.

If I want to hear Brexit discussion, that has already been on since 6am and will continue after 4pm. If you really want it between 1 and 4, there are other stations.

Michael Crick.

I think it was OK to have Ken in for one day and drop Jon Holmes. I know what you mean about having alternatives elsewhere, but Ken must have been the only person presenting from a left-wing point of view, and this is a genuinely historic, once in a generation, day.

Sadly, I found out he was on too late to tune in, so I missed, him.

Sadly I missed him too. Will have to try catchup.

This really was a completely exceptional day in the country's history; I think it's right that TalkRadio marked it in some way.

Always welcome.

I realise that I went on to reply to radamfi, but under the quote from you. Sorry about any confusion.

How did TalkRadio do for calls during the day today? LBC and Radio Leeds were flooded with calls. I don't think I've ever known Radio Leeds take so many calls before.

George Galloway is on top form, his first show on LBC was fantastic, and the opening moments on talkRADIO suggest the same.

talkRADIO are really struggling for callers, GG has mentioned the number a few times now.

What is the issue?

Indeed.

GG show on LBC attracted loads of call within minutes of his first show.

Clearly talkRADIO have issues.

I've just called up and will be called back within 10 minutes because they have Cable on now. I fancy a rant. It has been building up inside me all day.

The station has now been on air 3 months. When the EU referendum - which had 5 Live receiving so many calls they had a 14-hour phone-in, had LBC receiving loads of calls all week, and even had Radio Leeds receive a volume of calls I've never known the station to receive - doesn't have much of an impact on the volume of calls to TalkRadio, it is hard not to conclude that very few people are listening.

The ban on callers talking about the EU was stupid, but surely it is no longer in place. The premium rate number TalkSport uses doesn't stop that station getting plenty of calls. Even if the premium number was a barrier for many, considering the amount of people who wanted to talk on the radio about the EU referendum, the amount of callers should have been considerably higher.

Presumably TalkRadio wants to have thousands of listeners, and wants to have plenty of calls. Why bother with a premium number if nobody is going to call it and generate income for the owners?

The owners need to work out why the station is not attracting listeners and do something that may improve the listening figures. They have to see this week as a serious failure if the station is to survive.

I want more speech radio. I want more options. TalkRadio has given me an alternative to LBC and 5 Live, so I can listen to TalkRadio if I think the discussions on that station are more interesting than those on other stations. I want that alternative to survive and grow.

Sometimes, the one thing that makes James O'Brien a better listen to JHB, even if I am more in agreement with JHB than JOB, is that LBC has lots of callers who have different views and experiences, so I hear several different perspectives, and it is a more lively and engaging listen. A fast-paced Wall-to-wall interviews show is no substitute for a show with plenty of callers.

Other than the ban during voting, the only "ban" was the self-imposed ban by Iain Lee, because Brexit talk is boring. JHB was presumably talking about Brexit almost every day.

surely its obvious why talk radio isn't getting many callers? its a dab only station that they haven't really bothered publicising... an idiot could have told them that wouldn't work. The DAB thing in itself isn't a huge problem but combine that with the lack of advertising, of the station the expensive number and you've got a problem IMO. That said, JHB did have one caller... so thats progress for her I guess. One thing that was interesting was that talksport news directed listeners to talk radio for continuing EU ref coverage. Is this the first time they've been promoted on the main talksport station? one problem with the show though was that Sam D hardly shut up long enough for Ken to get a word in!
I didn't listen to much of GG last night, but what I did hear as well as the guests, he had a trickle of callers, which is more than a lot of shows on there seem to get. Hopefully with him on there and all the people he reaches via twitter, word might get out.

Indeed, plus the fact it's on a multiplex that most people don't know exists, and quite a few people's radios can't even receive...

If you watch the start of lentini's Periscope of Iain's show:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YF0voImjzmI

the handover with George is filmed

George: "I don't understand why we didn't have enough calls"
Iain: "You had more than a lot of other people are getting"
George: "Is there a problem? Is nobody listening?"

The weekend schedule appears to have been changed.

Danny Kelly is on now instead of Home Rule and the Radio Hustle.
Tomorrow, Paul Ross and a political special instead of Home Rule and 7 Days of talkRADIO.

Are you recording off the 64 kbps MP3 stream (recently improved from 48 kbps) or the new 32 kbps AAC stream?

iTunes shows the file as 64 Kbps, I thought it standard stream now. Or are there alternatives?

Just heard caddick call George, I think he didn't know what make of him.

The streams are now

http://radio.talkradio.co.uk/stream (MP3)
http://radio.talkradio.co.uk/stream-mobile (AAC)

Personally, I find the mp3 stream sound quality good enough.

the scheduling today is rather odd... no Penny Smith at breakfast, instead we are 'treated' to the 2 mikes... presumably their best of show that goes out on a Saturday evening from 6? Then this 4 hour show with Danny Kelly to discuss the EU Ref. Fine, i don't actually have an issue with that however I turned it on just after 12 I think it was and Danny was chatting to talksport's England football corrispondent about Euro2016! an interesting discussion but hardly relating to the EU. if you are going to put special shows to focus on something, why not actually focus on it? I'm sure it was only a small segment of the overall 4 hours but still sounded weird.

Penny was on the schedule, so I wonder if she was ill or something?
