It's based on a station from a number of years ago that was taken over by TalkSport. talkRADIO and Virgin are both returning stations.

But wasn't it called Talktadio UK, I'm sure it was when it first started. Or maybe that's what the company was registered as, I used to walk past the building they were based in at 76 Oxford st all the time.

They dropped the "UK" bit after a while.

with a month to go until launch, the rest of the schedule would be nice... hardly going to generate much interest if people don't know what is going to be on. so far, all we have is breakfast, mid morning, drive and Iain Lee... oh and George on a Friday evening but I'm trying not to think about that...

I'm hoping he'll be doing something like Down the Rabbit Hole which was a bit more mainstream than previous stuff but still very funny. He's been hosting a few Comedy Clubs on 4Extra lately.

As much as I'll miss him on 3CR, and the awful treatment he received, at least we'll be getting him without quite as much interruption from news travel and music (I presume the music will be minimal on a talk station, if any at all).

I am really looking forward to hearing Iain on the new station Fizzbin. I hope his wings won't be clipped though.

Me too. Iain is a very witty, intelligent and unique presenter and I hope this is where he'll find his natural home for a long time!

Oh yeah, and I hope Mona from Hampstead is turning in her grave. Silly old moo.

On Facebook, Iain just posted this:

Quote:
“There will be, at some point in the week on my new show on talkRADIO, calls straight to air.

I don't know when, or how long or what format it will take.

But it will happen.”

They will be directly up against LBC who will probably up their game. Talk Radio will have to hit the ground running with stories and presenters that interest other media as well. LBC is often quoted on major radio and TV stations as well as in the press.

From my understanding of the schedule, they're only competing with LBC for 3 hours a day.

(not read all the pages here but)
oh yes please to this BIB. It being kinda hard to fall asleep whilst listening to a deep debate. I miss the light hearted, non serious topic led, stuff LBC used to do before going nationwide.

Totally agree zwixxx. Radio is saturated with heavy news/politics because it is safe and sells like white sliced bread.

However, it badly needs innovation. It needs light as well as shade and I think a good number of listeners have been largely frozen out for most of the past two decades (on and off).

Remains to be seen if talkRADIO will deliver, but Iain Lee is probably the greatest innovator since Nick Abbot was (back in the day), so that's a good start.

I hope they do free podcasts unlike LBC who charge for most.

Yes, full show podcast would be ideal, but don't think that will happen. At least if they are online, you have a chance of recording it yourself.

Can't be long before they reveal more of the presenter line up.

Talking of whole shows, RADAMFI: do you still have Iain's old shows hosted anywhere?

Thanks.

When asked about full show podcasts on Twitter, Iain said:

Quote:
“I'm working on it but I normally like to leave it 6 months before I start pissing off my new bosses too much Iain Lee added,”

So it is up to us to record it ourselves. I'll be recording but others need to as well in case something goes wrong at my end.

LBC shows are still available at the LBC website, and at no charge. I did upload the Absolute shows that weren't on the website but the hosting has lapsed.

Which is the best program to record radio programmes on my PC with? Thanks.

Someone recorded all the Rabbit Hole shows so maybe he'll be recording Talk Radio as well.

With VLC, you can easily record an internet stream. The default interface doesn't show a record button but you can display it by clicking on View->Advanced Controls. Then simply press the red dot to start and black square to stop.

If you are connecting a radio to the PC then Audacity is an option. There are detailed instructions on how to record here:

http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man...scs_to_cd.html

mp3directcut works too. Note to create mp3 files you need to get the LAME encoder (just one file) from another place, and you can find it here

http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man..._ins.html#lame

That works for both Audacity and mp3directcut

That's very kind. Thanks radamfi Think I'll try the VLC route first.

Net Transport, not the most user friendly interface but it's got a timer so it works like a pvr. It also has the advantage of recording the stream and not what's coming out of the speakers so you can listen to anything you want while Net Transport does its thing in the background.

I like the look of that, but it costs $30 after the 30 day free trial. Audacity has a timer but you have to record either the line in or the sound card output. VLC records the internet stream but has no timer.

An issue for recording streams is the file format. If you record an mp3 stream in VLC then you end up with an mp3 file that is easy to edit in Audacity or mp3directcut. But if you record an AAC+ stream, for example like Radio 2 320 kbps, then you end up with .ts file which I don't seem to be able to anything with. Do you know how to edit those kinds of files?

talkSPORT uses mp3 so if talkRADIO uses the same then there won't be a problem.

Where as Virgin is actively promoting itself as a returning station the new Talk Radio seems to presenting itself as an entirely new station which surprises me somewhat.
I think a regular (perhaps at weekends) show looking back at the news and events of twenty plus years ago using archived calls and presenters would be a nice nod to its heritage and also fill in some schedule time when calls may be a bit thin on the ground.

It's a marvelous idea Shortwave
Hopefully they will have an archive
But with red tape these days I'm wondering if they might need clearance from callers ??
If so it'd be unworkable
I'm still intrigued we've not got the full complement of presenters announced
Iain did make mention of some surprises
I'm wondering if there are any BBC presenters or one at LBC finishing their contracts before coming aboard
