It's probably more a Jon Holmes thing than a talkradio thing, and maybe JH just thinks he deserves being shown up for it, rather than it being brushed under the carpet.

He's done it three times in three days, so I would guess talk radio know about it but haven't stopped him.

I think one of their selling points is to give presenters pretty much free reign. However, it does give the impression of a station being completely out of control. Some of the comments about JHB were pretty close to workplace bullying.

To be fair talkRADIO/talkSPORT has always been a bit edgy in regards to other colleagues. Mike Dickin used to regularly mock Jon Gaunt and Gaunty used to rip into Galloway quite a bit as well.

In one of the clash of the titans it even ended with Mike Dickin and Boyd having a bit of a fight.

Kinda concerned that after todays departures from talkSport, talkRadio will have its fair share soon....

Jon played a clip of Alan Brazil calling his newsreader "Corbyn's niece" a couple of weeks ago.

This is exactly what they do in the other part of the building at talkSPORT they seem to think ANY publicity is good publicly no matter how bad it makes them look.

Hardeep SK was covering the 10am slot this morning. I like him, but sadly work got in the way of listening to most of the show.

Out of interest, did he get any calls? On a day following such momentous and horrific news in France, if no-one is calling in, then I think talkRADIO might really have some problems.

I didn't listen, but there is of course Listen Again, so I just scanned it now and there were no calls. Although I don't think he gave out the number and it wasn't all about Nice. He was talking about other stuff such as Labour leadership and Teresa May in Scotland and had appropriate guests.

One bit that I found quite moving was when Hardeep got Marta to come in from behind the glass. Marta (from Barcelona) has been heard a lot on Jon Holmes where she is now a regular Diversity Paper reviewer. She sounds like a charming young woman so it was very sad to hear her say that she now feels less welcome in our country since the vote. Hardeep reassured her that 48% of us do welcome her and if England gets too grim then Scotland would give her a warm welcome especially given that he went to university with Nicola Sturgeon so he would have a word with her.

Hardeep's sitting in for Jon Holmes all next week.

Sadly a share of the 52% are either anti EU, racist or xenophobic.....Naturally some pro EU could feel the latter two, but feel that the UK ought be in the EU.

I cannot and will not listen to JHB, but I understand from others that she lacks callers, so I was interested to see how HSK had done in that regard. It doesn't bode well that there seem to be no callers at all, does it? This was a day when I imagine a lot of people were calling in to LBC/BBC.

I think the problem now though is that half the shows are preped to have no callers so as a result there not giving the number out as often and when a call does come on there not giving it that long. Its as though they king of need the Iain Lee approach of have a vague idea on what there going to talk about but thats it.

I listened to Paul Ross the other day and the show was just too full it sounded too clunky. Ferrari has it mastered on LBC 1 topic every half hour but connately tease whats coming up in the next hour that way you have a stack of callers waiting for when they move on to it. They have also started giving Paul Ross time to have a rant in a O Brien / Ferrari style however it just doesn't work as he's not that sort of presenter and doesn't cary that gravitas to pull it off.

They couldn't call into 5 Live because 5 Live was broadcasting golf. If TalkRadio was a successful radio station, perhaps they would have turned to TR and called in. LBC received plenty of calls when James O'Brien was on this morning, including one from Liverpool.

When LBC and BBC 5 Live were swamped by calls on the EU referendum, TalkRadio's lines were quiet.

This has nothing to do with who is presenting, their political views or their presentation style. If a left-wing person who had plenty of media experience presented instead of JHB it would be the same story. They could put Nigel Farage or Jeremy Corbin on for the morning and the station would probably still struggle for calls, even if they were both on together!

I don't think the lack of mentions of the number has anything to do with it. All that shows is that the station has accepted it has few listeners. It is a ffailure. TalkRadio is a national radio station which can be heard in the major cities and most medium-sized cities. It has been on air 4 months. The number of calls per week for all shows that take callers should be increasing.

The presenters must know they have vvery few listeners, yet they continue to spend 15 hours of their weeks broadcasting to a tiny audience. Apart from for the money, why?

Does there need to be another reason? The forthcoming RAJAR will certainly be interesting, but not necessarily terminal even if the figures are inevitably very low.

Ouch! this is pretty desperate stuff and relates to what we have just been saying. It seems management are getting worried with the lack of calls and are trying a differnt approach.

I think Iain made a nod to this on tonight's show when he said he didn't need to advertise for calls. He had so many calls that he had to speed through the calls at the end, putting two calls on at once.

This is what i don't get, Iain has far more calls than any of the other presenters and doesn't struggle for calls. I know quite a few are previous listeners however has he has also had alot of people saying they are new to the station. This was my point earlier in that thread that i think some other shows are way too formatted and as a result callers are put off. The Full Set Breakfast, JHB and Drive are the worst for this, shows like Jon Holmes and Jonny and Ash that are more relaxed seem to attract alot more interaction.

Maybe people are at work so don't get a chance and then once they are home have dinner watch some TV they might not be ready till late in the evening to call a phone in show.
