Yasmeen Khan and Ass Prod Cass (from Jon Holmes' show) have done a podcast together:

Next Friday George Galloway has been erased from the schedue from 7pm it is the Gould Brothers. GG did say yesterday he is back next week.
Begs the question what has happend? Especially after recent events with Collymore and Murray, Galloway's forthcoming film does criticize Murdoch alot........ |

I don't think it's been mentioned here, Penny Smith is sitting in for Paul Ross on Monday and Tuesday.

Jon Holmes managed to get in another play of the George Galloway "final warning" clip this afternoon, so he has played it every day this week.

That's a long time - probably the longest absence of any presenter.

Jon Holmes is going to Papua New Guinea and it sounds like it is for work. He, and probably others, see the radio show as something to fill in gaps when he isn't doing anything else. Sam Delaney has Fridays off because he's doing his RT TV show.

I've now listened to the whole of Friday's Jon Holmes show and he's actually back on Wednesday, 10 August, making that 3 weeks and 2 days off. He's doing travel writing for the Sunday Times.
He also managed to get in another play of the George Galloway "final warning" clip just before the end during the handover to Yasmeen Khan, making it three plays on Friday and seven during the week in total. Yasmeen said that George doesn't look at her on the 7pm handover. George does seem to be quite a knob, to say the least. |

The George Galloway clip even made "7 Days of talkRADIO"! The start of the second hour of Wednesday's show from the end of the news until Ellie doing hipster nonsense was on it, which happened to include that clip.

I found today's show from Hardeep sitting in for Jon Holmes quite listenable. It was mostly about relationship break-ups (in reaction to today's showbiz news). I may have found it interesting because we got to hear about the love lives of the young women from talkRADIO that we've come to get to know over the last few months. Cass told us that she had broken up with someone after a nearly two year relationship, partly because she moved from Reading to London. Victoria and Marta, who we only normally hear in short bursts with Jon Holmes, were on for lengthy parts of the show describing their Tinder nightmares.
There was a new trail at 3.30, encompassing the three shows between 4pm and 1am: https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?c...M6PCqRrJjSxFTy |

I listened to the Paul Ross Breakfast Show this morning from 6.30am till 9am, for the first time. It consisted entirely of the media GP who appears everywhere reviewing the papers, and Paul talking about going to a drop in centre when he can't get a GP appointment.
There were brief news bulletins, nothing in depth, and a chat with the Moose. No numbers were given to call in or text or email. It was just people chatting in a void, with no connection to the outside world......at Breakfast time, usually the peak radio audience of the day! If this is what's on offer, I found it very disappointing. |

He left the BBC where he had an audience to talk to an audience that only seems to consist of the people working on the show.

I did a rough estimate as to how much it would cost to operate a freephone number instead of the 0844.
Calls to 03 numbers are inclusive from landlines and mobiles, else charged at 'geographic rate' - the same as calling 01 and 02 numbers. More than 95% of calls made to 01, 02, and 03 numbers are now made as part of an inclusive call allowance with each such call attracting no additional charge. A non-geographic number is simply a fancy call-handling and call-forwarding system. When an organisation chooses to use a non-geographic number, there are additional charges for call-handling and call-forwarding that need to be paid. For high volume users this can be as low as 0.3p per minute. When an 03 number is used, the called party pays the call-handling and call-forwarding fee and the caller pays their landline or mobile provider the same as whatever they pay for calls to 01 and 02 numbers. Revenue sharing is not allowed on 03 numbers. When an 084, 087 or 09 number is used, the caller pays the call-handling and call-forwarding fee through the declared Service Charge with the remainder being paid out to the called party as revenue share. TalkRadio likely earn about 3p to 4p per minute from incoming calls. The caller is also hit by their provider's Access Charge (up to 12p per minute from landlines or up to 55p per minute from mobiles). When an 080 number is used, the called party pays the call-handling and call-forwarding fee but also has to compensate the caller's landline or mobile provider for carrying the call as the caller paid nothing. This additional Call Origination Fee can be as high as 8p per minute for calls originating from a mobile phone. Usage of an 080 number means that the caller's provider is paid by the called party for a call that would otherwise have counted towards the caller's monthly inclusive allowance had an 03 number been employed. |

If this is what's on offer, I found it very disappointing. However, advertising for "experts" to come on for free suggests they're not serious about moving in that direction. While there are some nuggets, the breakfast show is boring, JHB offers nothing that you can't get on R5L or LBC. Jon Holmes is entertaining but too "out there" for most people without music and jarring after JHB. He'd be better on Virgin. I like Sam Delaney and there's a potential gem of a programme there. I've not heard Jonny Gould and Iain Lee does his thing brilliantly well. They really need to sort breakfast and daytime. |
