I'm guessing you have to subscribe to the Rajar site, for the detailed info.

Iain said he would be told his figures on Monday and will probably keep it under his hat.

Seems like a healthy figure to build on.”

I think the third quarter of 2016 will be more telling for TalkRadio in all honesty.

For example, my listening to Iain Lee in the evening has significantly drifted off in the past few weeks. No real reason, nothing show related as such, it just has, the novelty value wore off a bit. But Galloway and Howard Hughes are remaining the weekly show I try hard to catch.

for individual show break downs I think you need to subscribe which costs about 2 grand...

I think considering the stations short time on air and the pitiful advertising its received from TWG, these figures are pretty good really. comparing them to LBC and 5Live, both long established stations is ridiculous and as Radamphy has said, outside London, LBC isn't exactly huge.

However, when one considers the dramatic growth of LBC and 5 Live, and the growth of news programming on Radio 4, those figures look dreadful. The growth of LBC and 5 Live was only possible because people were looking for speech radio, tuned into those stations, liked what they heard and continued listening.

Why hasn't the same happened in the case of TalkRadio? Does the format during current affairs shows make listeners feel excluded?

Do individual presenters take any of the blame, or do they think they would have done better if they had been presenting on the more successful stations?”

Completely disagree with all of the above.

Out of interest - what were you expecting, or specifically, what would have you called a success?

George Galloway has tweeted to say that he doesn't think his figures are included in talkRADIO's figures.

They won't be - the survey ended on 26th June - a couple of days after his debut.

I agree with others. the figures were near the top end of my expectation.. 250k was my high expectation and 100k was my low.

The figures should gradulally go higher as more and more people get DAB and also rescan, which many current DAB owners may not yet have done.

As said it will be in a years time that the true figures will come to light. Personally i think 250k for the first survey is a strong start, however if it stays at that level thats when there will be problems. The cost to produce speech radio would mean for that amount of listeners it won't be profitable.

TWG said in there launch that they had forecast talkRADIO to make a loss in its first 2 years so its a good sign they will stick with it just gotta hope New Corp are the same. However as they are new to the radio industry i can see them just letting the old TWG management run the show for a while and then start stepping in with there own people if there not happy. It seems the main goal is the relationship between The Sun and talkSPORT, everything else is just a bit of an extra so can see that being the first focus.

In my view talkSPORT is an utter $h!te station with utter $h!te presenters but the thing they have going for them is English Premier League football it brings in hundreds of thousands of listeners, without the EPL their listening figures I think would be abysmal because everything else is so bad.

TalkRADIO is a far far better station again in my view but sadly they will never have a crutch like the EPL they will just have to survive on the quality of their shows.

I hope and pray talkRADIO grows and grows into a very successful station.

Enjoyed Ash with 7Days.

The station is asking Ken Livingstone's opinion on things. They should sign him up for a weekend show, with a co-host.

Also give the Two Mikes a daily show. 1-4pm is a good slot.

I agree. I wonder if there is someone they could pair him up with that isn't David Mellor? The idea worked well on LBC until Mellor's love of his own voice took over completely.

Respect that view but no I can't agree and I'd have David Mellor and Ken Livingstone doing a politics show on talkRADIO tomorrow if not sooner and the way it's going at LBC they both might be available very soon.

I do know what you mean about Mellor he is a pompous git and a [GRR SPIT] Tory but I don't let it get to me I just enjoy their show enormously, or I did when Ken was still with him but now sadly isn't.

The first thing Jon Holmes plays after his 3 and a bit week holiday is the George Galloway "final warning" clip. Then a dig at the lack of marketing leading to talkRADIO being 34th out of 39 in the listening figures for national stations.
