On the spat between Campbell and Howard Hughes I could understand Campbell being upset at being constantly interrupted throughout the interview BUT i also understand modern day radio is all about making it a conversation and Howard was just doing his job so to be honest I saw both sides.”

The moment that Howard's guest puffed himself up into a tizzy was the moment he lost me I'm afraid, and I think he lost Howard too, and probably much of the audience. He ruined his own case, and his appearance. If you can argue with the mild and affable Howard Hughes then you can argue with your own reflection.

As Howard said, it was a conversation, and not meant to be a lecture down the phone about Earhart he was giving. As it is I don't think Howard is anywhere near as critical as I'd like him to be on this radio show and on his podcasts too. On his podcasts he often reads out listener comment to the effect that he gives some people an easy time.

For what it's worth I don't believe a single word of Mike Campbell's story either. But it sells books I guess.

Knowing virtually nothing on Amelia Earhart I have to admit I wouldn't know if Howard's guest on Sunday's show was talking any sense or just talking total ##llocks to sell a book and make a lot of money.

Enjoyed the show though I've not been downloading it with all the other stuff I download every week I just somehow kept forgetting about it but I am planning to download it in future.

Excellent Paul Rossmaster yesterday with Anna Williamson. Very amusing dig at Moyles in one of the questions. Cornelius asked Anna how to talk to girls and so Jon inevitably informed Anna that Con's mum taught him how to French kiss at a bus stop.

I thought Anna was very good on the show. I have to admit while i'm not a fan of her topics, as a presenter she's very good.

The Two Mikes playing musical chairs again for the next 2 weeks, sitting in for the Gould Brothers Mon-Thur 7-10pm.

How MG is still alive is a mystery the amount of wine and fags he consumes.

Yes, I don't listen to her show for the same reason but reckon she would be particularly good at a light-hearted phone-in show.

Does anyone know how they make up the Two Mikes overnight show. Do they always repeat the whole of the latest daytime show, and then some random bits for the last 2 hours?

The other morning it was a repeat of The Two Mikes until 4am, a repeat of a Danny Kelly interview from 4-5am and then a live show hosted by Geoff Peters from 5am.

They replay the whole show but obviously cut out the travel bulletins and the news on the half hour so each hour lasts about 50mins so the last 10min of each hour is a highlight of another show such as h&j(guest interview etc)

To be fair the same could be said about Porky, some of the stories I've heard through friends at talkSPORT about him and Brazil's nearly famous boozing sessions are unreal.

You'd think a man who's had a heart transplant would modify his behaviour and act better than that in order to keep as well as possible. After all Mike Parry is only alive today at the expense of someone else's life that ended. He seems to be thriving considering the serious nature of what he had done a few years back.

He never had a transplant

Yeah, and look where it led him, to a serious heart condition and to semi-retirement for a long while till he recovered. He doesn't smoke though, MG does. How Brazil is still alive is another mystery, but his work suffers badly for it and I find him unlistenable now.

He had Cardio Myopathy, and still takes alot of tablets, but he miraculously recovered before needing a transplant. Though I entirely agree with your point, the way he boasts about eating greasy food, sweets and consuming alcohol is an insult to the NHS that treated him. But he's a single man, and has no kids. MG on the other hand has several, but he does cook and eat healthier food.

I have started listening to the podcast version instead. Cuts out the travel / news etc and makes it simple to avoid repeats as well as be able to catch the whole show at a time best suited to me.

Jon Holmes was on the Wright Stuff on Channel 5 and got the catchphrase "I can't get my head around it" onto the show, then played it out on Friday's show.

Bank Holiday Monday on talkRADIO. Everyone from 10am to 10pm on holiday. So it's Penny Smith 10am-1pm, Bob Mills 1pm-4pm, James Max 4pm-7pm and The Two Mikes 7pm-10pm.

James Max is a good example for me of why LBC is no longer my first choice of station.

I enjoyed his 'perky' and fun style of presenting on light-hearted topics. He was fun.

But when LBC insisted every show be about the news, he became boorish and unbearable for me, being an apologist for the bankers and the City's bad, sometimes illegal, behaviour. He interrupted callers who disagreed and treated them with disdain, pretending that it was humour. It's a technique that many/most of the LBC presenters also now use, which is childish and off-putting.

I heard him sit in on Drive for Sam Delaney and it was more like the 'old' James Max again, which was nice to hear. I really do think there is a place for... well... 'nicer' radio, with fun and light-hearted topics mixed in. I do hope talkRADIO survives and plugs this gap.

I meant Drive!

James Max used to phone into Iain Lee when they were both at LBC. I can't remember what he did but it was amusing. After the Global takeover, I met him at one of the Barry from Watford shows where he was there with Agent Chris. We had a chat about the Global changes and he admitted he was basically selling out to stay in work.

That's interesting. So was he saying that he didn't actually want to defend the bankers, etc but he was being forced to be controversial?

A big turning point with him/LBC was when he did Xmas Day and did a programme on tax rates and why the rich shouldn't pay more. A less festive output I could not have imagined.

I am looking forward to talkRADIO at Xmas - I hope they run a good, fun and festive schedule.

We only talked about LBC talking about the news all the time and not about banking. I said I didn't like the new format but he said that he needed to adapt if he wanted to continue working there.

Ah, thanks radamfi.

Those listening figures you posted earlier, comparing Clive Bull (old format) to Ian Collins (new format) would also have been at a time when LBC was London-only, I presume. If that's correct, then it shows that talkRADIO could be on to a winner if they advertised themselves better and kept their current approach.

I'm still slightly concerned that their more light-hearted choices may be a little bit niche, but those stats are promising.

In 2006, LBC opened on the former MXR regional DAB multiplexes around the more populated regions of England and Wales, but probably didn't contribute that much to the total audience and was really put on there to enable the closure of a digital only news service.

I'm guessing some people would call Jon Holmes' show "niche", but he has basically adapted his XFM/Radio X show which was running on a Londonwide breakfast show for nearly 3 years.
