BT system issues and outages for today

Called to see why my infinity broadband isn't working was told whole system is down so couldn't even open my file on computer. Said most likely to connected to others who are suffering infinity outages etc.

So thought I'd spread word.

I've to call back in 6 hours to see if they at least have their system up, using my iPhone as a dongle as only browsing web and have plenty of data for this and that.

(3.7GB that's to be used in 3 days then resets back to my current data level)

It's already starting to come back online. The BT website works again, the BT connection I have access to is up again.

Indeed. Just popped back to update that my services are now working again.

So wasn't off for too long.

Back up in Barrow, Cumbria. If anything, it seems even faster; this may change as more people get online.

The weird thing is when I couldn't connect the hub was still showing blue. So I thought it must be the laptop at fault and tried some virus/malware scans and they wouldn't run. They would start then terminate. This for the period of the outage.

The blue light just means that your router is connected to the ADSL equipment in the local exchange. If something goes wrong beyond that then you can lose internet access even though the router is still showing as connected.

Just had a very strange call from an Indian claiming to be from BT, saying that I've had problems with my broadband, and that some "uknown third party" is sending malcious software down my phone line to my PC, and that I had to "take steps" to stop it happening.

I hung up.

Although my BT Broadband speed seems fine I'm struggling to be able to watch anything on the likes of youtube. This started yesterday. Simply, the videos are taking ages to start and then often keep buffering / cutting out.

Is anyone else continuing to have issues with their broadband connection? For the third time today the connection has been lost and the router restarted itself.

There doesn't appear to be any reported issues in the Sunderland / Newcastle area though there was a reported issue in the Durham area two or three hours ago which has since been resolved.

I did up until today, in London. I was using the internet on monday, up until their broadband crashed. Kept rebooting the router, only had amber flashing light.

Rang them and they said it must be my router, as l did not have a contract with them, which was a WTF moment, l have had an account with them telephone 25 years and broadband for about 12 yrs. They said l would have to pay for a new one, but as l was a BT customer l could have it for £10 reduced to £6. I got the new router a couple of hours ago.

Considering l pay a small fortune every month for telephone and broadband, l going to look into this (after checking they have not charged £90 for the damn thing).

So anyway it was the router, the old one was working perfectly okay until their crash, l would love to know if their outage caused the issue.
