Having been interested in technical stuff (especially TVs and cabling) I have taken on a project (maybe I have turned it into a project!?). In simple terms, I am trying to run an aerial cable from my loft to my kitchen area through internal walls. Sounds like a challenge but I am so close but ‘stuck’………..
The last leg of my journey (and it feels like a journey) requires me to route the aerial cable through wooden bottom plate (upstairs) into top plate (kitchen) of the dry wall. I have access (via a drilled hole) into ceiling void and drilled up from downstairs into top plate. I have an endoscope on my laptop and from upstairs I can ‘see’ the hole where I need to route the aerial cable so that it enters the kitchen dry wall........so close.
However, the holes are not aligned for a simple direct feed down of the cable (the house that jack built) so the holes are approx. 1-2 feet apart. Challenge is to get the cable routed but having no physical access (no hand/arm access) into the void to direct the cable. I have drilled 2 holes in the bottom (wooden) plate upstairs (one for light/endoscope and the other to route the cable) and the holes are about 1.5 inches deep so it is difficult to get a cable/feed directed (down and then in the direction I need to route it) to the hole in the upper (wooden) plate in the kitchen.
On Sunday I felt I was so close by putting a flexible rod with a hook from downstairs into the ceiling void and then trying to wiggle a bit of wire from upstairs in the floor void towards the hole. Running upstairs and then downstairs trying to ‘snare’ the wire. I then found out I was trying to snag the shadow of the wire rather than the wire itself…….oh dear....
Are there any top tips and/or routing gadgets that could help me solve this puzzle?
