Amazon Prime now doing pay monthly?

Think I noticed the other day Amazon Prime are now offering the instant video service for £5.99 per month meaning there is now a pay monthly option as well as the annual fee subscription, can anyone confirm if this is true?

If this is the case it will help Amazon gain a lot of ground on Netflix in the race to be the top video stream provider, AP lately have some very good exclusive TV shows and they still have a pretty good film library as well as of course the ability to download and watch content offline and also purchase digital copies of the latest movies and TV both for rental and ownership.

With Netflix apparently now blocking smart DNS users it wouldn't surprise me to see Amazon eventually become the top online video service.

The trouble I find with Amazon is unless it's featured on the main screen, I don't watch it. They need to get a better categories system like NF.

Interesting they got a separate price for streaming video only or video plus next day delivery as I let my one year subscription laps the end of January and not that I had to give them a reason why I thought I’d give them a piece of my mind and I gave the reason for leaving was not so much the lack of anything on Prime but more to do with the next day deliveries sometimes coming a day or two later and the fact that many items I've bought are £3 to £5 more expensive than same items but non Prime and you can get free delivery anyways if you wait two or three days.

Only left 3 days ago and waiting to see if they offer me a carrot to rejoin.

They've had a monthly option for a while. Amazon Prime is more akin to an online Blockbusters as you pay to watch much of their content with only some of it included with your Prime membership.

Yeah it's very much the old Lovefilm service with a few tweaks here and there, they still run the Lovefilm dvd/blu-ray through the post as a option too but I think most will agree that's a bit of a dated concept now.

I agree the Amazon Prime site needs improving, it's nowhere near as user friendly as Netflix, shame because if AP can get their service in line with Netflix on minor complaints like that they should become more popular as they already have advantages over Netflix like being able to download and also purchase new titles to own digitally.

I've just signed up to the £5.99 a month version (free 30 day trial first off) which is definitely up my street as I don't use Amazon deliveries wise to fork out the £79 in one go.

Amazon have offered this for quite sometime, The £79 annual fee includes delivery and is better value if you use Amazon Instant Video regularly and order things to buy ocassionally. However I find saving up things to watch over a month is best although I may be sharing it with my son soon, so saving me £40 and getting deliveries free.

Amazon Prime Instant Video has always had a pay monthly option since taking over Lovefilm Instant, however it doesnn't include the free next day delivery on Amazon, it's just the video service you get.

Also doesn't include Amazon Music (Spotify type service), the book a month Kindle rental, and the cloud photo storage either (and the 1hr/2hr/same evening delivery for certain areas

They are only in with the annual payment.

Also worth pointing out with the annual payment, if you order something you aren't desperate for, and choose normal ("no-rush") delivery you get a credit on your account of £1-£3 to use for digital media.

You can get Amazon to give you full prime for £7.99 a month. I got the offer yesterday after cancelling prime straight away to stop the auto renew.
