I think "worked" in this case should mean that Scotty actually received lots of votes.

Perhaps you're right that the scam being exposed made people think Scotty would get lots of votes -- but that wouldn't mean he actually did get them, and so it doesn't mean the scam worked.

I'm going to out on a limb and say that the people reading Gaz's snapchat and ringing numbers he tells them to ring would most likely be Scotty T fans and voters as well.

This whole thing has been blown out of proportion. But I have enjoyed watching this forum get into a spin about a perceived threat to the rightful and just coronation of Queen Tiffany.

There certainly seem to be people who are very worried that Scotty might win and who claim it's fraud but won't report it as fraud. Fraud can be reported online these day, but perhaps they don't feel sure enough of the facts. However, they don't even seem to be complaining to Ofcom.
