I don't think I actually stated he was backing off at all.
Her Dad hasn't seen Sam apparently so I'm guessing he's assuming that ship has sailed. He's hardly liable to not talk/see Jeremy seeing as his daughter has seemingly dumped Sam for Jez.

Exactly this.. Out of sight out of mind. In fact Steph told Jeremy she couldn't even remember what Sam sounds like. What happens when she comes face to face with Sam again??
