When do you truly become a fan?
When do you think we truly become fans of a act or artist or group etc etc??.
Is it when you buy the first Single/album by them? or when you go to see them in concert or is it when you buy all the merchandise by them .? Or is when you do all of the above and truly can relate to the music or the Artist . For me I only consider my self a true fan only to a small selection of Acts because I have all albums and singles by them and some Merchandise and seen them in concert and will follow them for life now. when do you think you truly become a fan? |

Fan is short for fanatic.
So no I'm not of fan anyone, but like a lot of different artists...and that includes all the albums, and the odd concert. Don't bother with singles and merchandise is just an excuse to be ripped off. |

Fan n. a devotee of a specified amusement, performer, etc. [abbr. of foll.] Fanatic n. a person filled with excessive and often misguided enthusiasm for something. So I would say that whilst plenty of popular artists have plenty of the former, they probably only have a few of the latter. I am a fan of a lot of artists' music, but I wouldn't say I'm a fanatic of any. |

Well one of my most favorite singers had to die in order for me to realize who I had been missing out on all of this time, Billy Joe Royal that is.
![]() God bless you and his family always!!! Holly P.S. Did I know any of his material at all before then? Yes, but I was just a little kid when I heard the little of him that I heard. After his going forward I listened to what I remembered and because of how good it is, I checked out what I could find online of the rest and as of right now, I have yet to hear something from him that I do not think is awesome and so far, I have almost every song that his name was placed on.

Britney Spears, hmm, I think I was about 7, and that iconic video came on for the first time of her in pig tails and a school uniform. I was a fan ever since then though I suppose it wasn't really until a few years later that I heard Toxic that I became a flat out devotee of all things Spears.

You're a fan when you buy and listen to and enjoy an artist's music. You don't to have seen them live or own merchandise - more on that later.
You can be a fan of an act or acts or fan of music in general. We all start somewhere and our interests grow with us. We leave stuff behind, we add more. You can hear a great track at any time and want to investigate: to find out more about the artist, to buy that track, to buy some other recordings by the same artist or even to buy most of their catalogue. The artist/s you've discovered may not tour in your country, they might not even be alive i.e. their music isn't actually new - but it's new to you. While it's fine to be enthusiastic, fans (especially those who focus on only one or very few artists) can be prone to becoming little more than cheerleaders or apologists. I think it's important to maintain objectivity. I'm usually a bit suspicious of people who like very few artists or only one style of music. By the time I was fourteen or fifteen I'm sure I liked several dozen, if not a hundred artists and could only by albums far less frequently than I'd have liked. Now, a few decades later I must like hundreds if not maybe a thousand artists (never attempted to keep track) and I've usually found in my experience that it's the fairly odd types who only go on about the one thing all the time. There's just so much wonderful music out there! |

It was New Kids on the Block - 1988 - Top of the Pops - Number One.
Seeing Boston's finest for the first time in that brilliant black and white pop video. I was a MAD fan from that day on! Still a fan now. You never forget your first teenage crush.... I bought watches, pendants, chains, magazines that bore even the smallest picture or article on them. I was OBSESSED!!!!!!!!!!! I was convinced I would marry Joey Mc when I got older (he was only a couple of years older than me so TOTALLY possible). I remember camping outside hotels when they would come to this country - racing down the street after their taxis, hiding in hotel elevators trying to get into their rooms...the whole bit lol!!! ....Awwwww Those were the days ![]() I am a reflective 40 year old woman now. Would I do all that madness again if I had my time over? Hell YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
