BT TV Starter, but using my own boxes
My Father In Law has standard BT broadband, 10GB limit, as it is only £5 a month.
If he orders BT TV Starter (£49 upfront, £0 a month) and gets sent the free non recording box, can I give him my BT Youview+ box, and he can use it for On Demand without it counting towards his useage? Their website seems to imply it (as it says it does not if you haven't got a BT TV contract). http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10495 Is everything I do taken into account under broadband usage? There are certain things we don't count towards the total monthly usage. This includes things like watching on demand video on your BT TV set top box (if you have a minimum 12 months BT TV subscription), using BT Cloud, making BT Broadband Talk phone calls and watching live or catch-up programmes on BT Sport via the app. For customers without a BT TV subscription, usage incurred watching YouView through a YouView box purchased from a retail outlet (e.g. BBC iPlayer, 4OD, 5Demand, or other content) will count towards the monthly broadband usage allowance. |

Also seen this as well:
http://www.productsandservices.bt.co.../terms/TV.html Using the service Unless you take a minimum 12 month BT TV promotion, any on demand video content you watch on your set top box that is not provided by BT will count towards the download limit for BT Broadband (where applicable). I read that as being, that if you take out a 12 month BT TV contract, any on demand on your own boxes does not count towards your own usage. |

In my experience, yes any on-demand / iptv is not counted towards your download

All setup and running now, and as you say, anything that has been watched (even Netflix with a subscription not through BT, but watched on the Youview box) is not counting. My next problem is watching old 4:3 shows, as they are pillarboxing by the Youview box, but the TV is then shrinking this and putting it's own bars down the left and right as well, even on HDMI, and when going back to 16:9 channels, they bars stay there until I turn the box off, most strange, so will make a new thread if i can't find an answer! |

This can be set different for each HDMI port, and they were all set to Auto, and with Sky, it never happened, so odd it does with Youview, anyway, all fixed. |
