In light of Zayn's current success, it has been expected by many that Harry will be 1D's breakout star. His charisma and outgoing nature is often cited; he is also extremely popular amongst 1D fans. Careerwise, Harry seems to be getting off to a good start as he has recently broke away from Syco* and modest, and joined CAA where will be managed by Azoff (this is huge!).

With all that said, I'm not sure whether that means he will be a viable comercial act despite the backing. I really am struggling to see where he will fit musically. His image has changed drastically, and his musical taste seems to be rock. The problem is folk into that music won't accept him. I suppose he could do pop tinged rock, but prospective fans may chose to stick with boybands that sing this genre (5secondsofsummer) and Ed.

I am interested to see what he does and how this plays out.

*I don't think any of the boys have truly escaped Cowell; if any of them do well with their solo projects Simon is making bank.

What do y'all reckon?

I think it'll come down to the type of material Harry releases.

If you look at Robbie Williams, for e.g., at the start of his solo career. He had two #2 singles but then it looked like everything was starting to go downhill and the public just weren't interested.

Then Angels was released and suddenly Robbie's solo career had a massive reversal of fortune, and from that point onwards Robbie was unstoppable.

I think because One Direction have become such a phenomenal success story, Harry could easily have a big career as a solo artist, but like Robbie, Harry needs the songs to back it up.

Yes initially. But in 10 years? God knows!

So far there's little indication if any of them are actually TALENTED like say, the members of Take That clearly are.

Really?
I don't follow them but I've seen them on chatshow appearances and the only one with any sort of personality is the Irish one.

Harry Styles could go into presenting like Olly Murs (who's ironically with Harry's ex Caroline Flack)

He SHOULD be successful. He has everything going for him: he can sing, write, has bags of charisma and is a fairly good-looking looking young man. But if only it was that easy! It also depends on how you define success - anything less than multi-million selling albums and stadium tours and the press will call it failure.

Each of these 1D boys has millions of fans who would support them. I'd say Harry, Liam and Niall could all have successful post-1D music careers if they choose to. Louis not so much as he can't sing. But he could work on songwriting instead.

This isn't the 90s or even the early 00s where there can only One true breakout because they're the 'face' of the group. If handled well, they could each cultivate their millions of followers the way Zayn's doing and launch successful campaigns. These days even YouTubers are becoming 'popstars', so I genuinely think very little is out of reach for someone from a group like 1D who already has a huge following.

I think they'll follow the Beatles break-up model more than anything, in that all of them will have varying degrees of success whatever they do. I rather think Harry will attempt an acting career first though.

I think Harry will have a good career. He has a huge fanbase and a lot of contacts in the media and celeb world who are determined he will do well. I don't think he will be able to become a movie star like people think. The 1D boys are crap actors in general, even their fans admit this. As for him becoming a presenter I cannot see it. I think he comes across quite boring in interviews and don't see the charisma people say he has except for when he is performing. He will be in the media regardless of how his music does Since he is friends with a lot of celebs.

The Irish one (Niall) is reportedly taking a break from music to concentrate on opening his own golf agency.

I agree though, he's always come across as the one with the most personality of the 5 lads.
