I can only state my opinion on this forum, as far as what I see. People will and are entitled to take it however they want, as I have absolutely no control over that part. They are entitled to disagree, as people will always have different perspectives. I know that many people are not conscious of their programming a lot of the time. Some people are. There is no judgement in that. It is just how it is. I don't think that pointing that out to people should be this big thing. There is such a thing as internalized sexism, where people are not even aware that the thoughts they are thinking are due to societal programming. They think the thoughts and views are their own. They think that because they were raised a certain way, then that must be how things should be without ever really questioning it. If you see sexism, why not challenge it? I say challenge it and give people the opportunity to look at things from a new perspective.
ETA: Even inteligent and educated people are susceptible to programming. They are also capable of sexism, racism, classism etc... Inteligent and educated people can be wrong too/misinformed/unaware. If someone points something out, one can look at it and decide whether or not that is on board with what one thinks or feels. That person can say that it is not on board with what they think or feel, but the person who has pointed it out can still be rock solid and adamant in their views about what they have pointed out. Sometimes you just know things. Other times, you are unsure. In the end both parties can agree to disagree.
