Yes I agree, my mum died a number of years ok, so sad to see them decline and become frail isn't it?

Yes, and I have done for a few years now.

I gave up completely this series. I did record the "David's Dead" episode on +1, having been alerted by this forum, but probably won't get round to watching it. Ever.
I do follow it on here, but that only reinforces my joy that I'm not wasting one second of my time left on earth watching such a load of tosh. Remember how good it used to be, and weep.

Why on earth would I be 'ashamed' or 'embarrassed' to tell people I watch CBB? It's my life, my choice. I watch lots of different telly shows, The Chase and Mastermind, Corrie, Question Time, In the Night Garden, D. I. Banks, News night, Vicar of Dibley, loadsa stuff. I'm never ashamed of enjoying anything and nobody should be. My family and friends know better than to criticise my lifestyle, just as I know better than to criticise theirs

I don't know what's supposed to have happened tonight but I thought it was brilliant. Big Brother kept it up right until the end, nobody, apart from Scotty, has had an easy ride. But fix? I've seen people accuse Ch5 of fixing it for Gemma to win, for John to win, for Scotty to win...(three dots is correct) and they're all wrong. It's going to be whoever gets the most votes on the night. Good luck to them all, they've been fantastic.

For most of us, at least, it doesn't make any difference to the ratings whether we watch or not.

The show is a complete mess now with all these plots to have them figthing..surely that wasnt the original intention.. Wasnt it to see who people get on together locked away from the world.. which would be hard enough Id think to get to breaking point.... the sleeping arrangements alone would drive me round the twist so why all this diary room rubbish plotting to annoy, degrade and humiliate by allowing the others to see what is suposed to be a private conversation in there , only to have flair ups in the house....Last night stupid debacle with steph and the milk took it to new lows.... She was supposed to show off, which of course we know shes good at not wreck the kitchen and stink it out.. it was embarrassing and stupid and if housemates think her acting was good I put up my hands.. it was awful and childish.. whats new.

John suffered on tonight's highlights, but I felt most sorry for Darren because of how tough it must have been for him to confront his demons on there and his reward was to be called a boring non-entitiy.
The guy looked absolutely broken and we know how hard it is for him to let go of stuff.
It was a moment that should have shamed the producers, but they nevertheless left it in.

ps - it was a fantastic post, but paragraphs really help to make it more readable!”

If any of those producers had any inkling of what John's going through in his private life with his mum they should want to curl up and die. I just hope they never have to go through what he's going through. I'm so glad he'll be free tonight and back with people who love and care about him, and have the money he needs for his mum's care

As for Big Brother- hope it's axed soon

Of course it's your/our life and your/our choice as to what we watch, and I imagine that most of the people on this forum choose to watch a wide range of programming. What I am saying is that I felt embarrassed and ashamed last night - not only for myself but for the people appearing on the show. I will always watch what I choose to watch, but I am seriously questioning my reasons for watching this particular show right now.

I wonder if they'll send out another 'survey' after this series asking us what we want - and then blatantly continuing on their own merry way. I can no longer persuade myself that this is 'reality' TV. There's no reality left in it. I've never watched TOWIE or MIC or GS, but I feel like I've been force-fed that rubbish continually since this series began. For me, the tipping point has come in realising that the whole thing is manufactured, scripted, faked. I feel patronised by producers who actually believe that they are producing entertainment. This is bear-pit television. I watched it, but I hated it.”

I agree wholeheartedly! I wrote something similar on here a few weeks ago. Celebrity BB has turning this way slowly whilst still at C4 but C5 have changed it up so much, it does now feel like mainly scripted 'reality tv'.

EVERY task seems to be to revel in creating conflict and upset. Every night they preview the show. the highlight the most explosive exchanges.
It is no longer organic and the makers now ONLY want to see people driven to anger, rage and insanity!!!

Sorry to say all this as I have watched it from the very beginning so I can see how far it has jumped the shark.

I do only watch Towie, never seen any of the other programmes but at least with that I know it is mostly scripted. CBB is not meant to be.

I think CBB is probably in a worse state than the civilian one as celebrities know how to 'play the game' - Essentially they are fighting for the comeback of their careers.

Civilian BB mostly comprise of fame w*ores. But they would have no choice but to comply with BB rules, celebrities now have riders and such like, so it would be harder to make them 'conform'.

Not sure what the solution is though. Seems to be the way things are going these days...X Factor is also now very contrived!

Yes, foxy23, for me too it's:

a) the whipping up of conflict (and the trumpeting of it before the show begins with Marcus's 'BEWARE OF SEXUAL CHAT, OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE CONSTANTLY AND THROUGHOUT (sic) AND NUDITY'

b) the dominance of 'reality' show actors from here and the US

and c) the knowledge that it's scripted and fake. I don't go with the 'fix' idea, but the interference and clear guiding (for example when Gemma 'suddenly' became a reiki expert who could 'see' poo just before Gillian McKeith came in).

Anyway, for me it's embarrassingly bad.

No, I don't feel embarrassed to say that I watch BB.

I couldn't care less what people think of my viewing habits.

No, not at all. I couldn't care less about what people do or don't think about the TV I watch, so I don't feel embarrassed or ashamed.

What I was trying to say (possibly badly) is that I feel embarrassed and ashamed for myself in watching BB - it's not about whether I'm embarrassed to tell others that I watch it (I tend to do that quite freely as it's interesting to see what their reaction is). I feel embarrassed that I'm spending time watching what I can only describe as drivel in the hope that something - anything - remotely entertaining might happen. Last night was the low-point as far as I have experienced BB. I've loved it for years, and I've loved it particularly for the wit and humour and laugh-out-loud moments - which often come from the older, wiser participants: the David Gests, the Julian Clarys. The young ones often served as a great foil - Glyn in BB7, even Dexter. But imho this series nosedived into dross once the 'script' appeared.

I dont feel ashamed or embarrassed but I am pissed off with myself for getting sucked back in to it .
I watched the first 5 or 6 years with huge interest and was really enjoying watching the real experiment . I loved the Celeb BB when the celebs were celebs too . The Jade Goody year put me right off . Then C4 finished and it moved to C5 and I couldnt access it as I dont get that channel . I was quite happy then not watching and I grow apart from it .

One Irish channel picked it up and started showing it and I picked up on this years CBB after a good many years . Now I must say after watching it this year and seeing the awful job being done on what was a good show I wont be watching again .Its now a parody of itself and manipulative rubbish .
I will see this one out then I am never watching again on C5 as long as this production team as on it and spoiling the whole concept for me

Yes, duckylucky, 'a parody of itself' just about sums it up.
It's as if the producers are unwilling to trust the participants to entertain us by being themselves. Instead, they have to be goaded and trained and prodded and manipulated (in some cases very willingly) to shock and anger the viewers rather than make them smile - or think.

I'm afraid you're putting your hopes up too high.

BB will NOT be axed until it is proved to be no longer profitable for Channel 5/Endemol/Viacom and I'm sure that there is a very long time for that. At the moment, it's the show that gives C5 their highest ratings and makes them the most profit. It would be really disgusting and silly for a channel to drop their most profitable and highest-rated show.

Channel 5 NEEDS Big Brother so i'm afraid for you, BB is here to stay.

Yes you're right about John too.
He was upfront from the start about his reason for doing CBB and being away from news of his mum must have added to how stressed and helpless he felt in the house.

I just didn't feel Darren deserved to be dismissed as a non-entity when it must have taken enormous courage and strength of character for him to not fall off the wagon in such an intense environment where alcohol was so often available.

I understand.
As I said in an earlier post, I feel sometimes feel 'dirty' after watching it.
