It did seem contrived, I'm sure they pretended not to really know each other at first, and suddenly the Ex On The Beach trailer runs and shows them together, them being in CBB suddenly looks like a publicity stunt for the show.

Of course it's fake! Jeremy let slip on CCBOTS that Scotty already has a girlfriend on the outside!

I think it's fake & that's why Scotty's been so against Jez & Steph from the start, as he could see their relationship having a better storyline.
