I sent this to BB
I want my money back. My daughter called Gaz. Then it was the phone line to vote for Scotty. We don't even vote. It's not your fault. But this is awful.

Their reply was:

I wonder what the next step of action would be?

So, in other words, let us know what phone you voted with and we'll check who you voted for. Makes no sense whatsoever and has nothing at all to do with what you wrote about.

Then again, I thought 'BB' (whoever that may be, C5? Endemol?) didn't actually deal with phone voting, I thought that was done by an independent company?

I thought you'd received a letter, that's just a customer adviser - he seems to think you are saying you tried to vote for Scotty but aren't sure your votes went through.

I guess the lesson in all of this is, don't go ringing random numbers that people put up on Snapchat, it could have been a lot worse - there are scams out there that can cost you a lot more than 50p!

I think it's a bit appalling that they know a voting phone number was sent out to 2 million of his fans from a celebrity friend of a candidate, telling them to phone that number to speak to him, and that they are allowing the voting to continue. Surely it must be against the law to charge other people to phone for their favourites when this has happened and might affect the final outcome of the voting. I don't know how they would be able to deal with it.. Perhaps they'd have to offer refunds to everyone who voted for Scotty T then sue Gaz. But trying to prove he did it would be difficult. He could claim that his account was hacked, etc.

the guy should be fined
that's deception and breach of use of social media
well done for going for this

can you get in touch with Snapchat for misuse of their facility? They may have some kind of legal action they can take as it was used for fraudulent purposes by misleading those who accessed the snapchat message ?

I cannot say its 'awful'.
Rather than berating anyone/everyone for this, why not address the fact that your daughter thought she was going to speak to an idiotic clown.
To me, that's the 'awful' part.

Then contact Gaz's management, or contact some kind of authority (whoever deals with phone voting for Endemol/C5) ... I doubt anything can be done via a thread on DS.

Also, talk to your daughter about wasting her phone credit! Block that kind of phone call on her phone (they are all blocked on my landline and on my mobile).

That's okay isn't it? People are able to get their 50ps back if they need to.

That's unfair, everyone has their idols. I met the Bay City Rollers over christmas, many people think I was bonkers for being so excited about it. But it was great.

im concerned at the stupidity of the ones who fell for it... though they are Geordie shore fans...

Anyone stupid enough to think that Gaz would just give out a number to call him on to 2 million people is an idiot and deserves to lose money.

I mean really, "if you ring this number you'll win a million pounds." Wow really, quick pass me the phone.

How is it 5's fault anyway? You should be reporting Gaz for fraud or something.

How could anyone fall for the scam as if he'd give out his mobile number and it's obvious it's not a regular number people just fell for the joke.

What do they mean by "verify" ? Why didn't they say that they would refund the money and deduct the vote !

It wasnt a joke - he conned people into voting for Scot, not only costing them actual money but also potentially altering the result of a tv show !

I don't watch Geordie Shore so have no idea what they are like on there. Now, if the BCR's were to make a reality show.....

All they will do is void the votes of anyone who contacts them that they can verify. The likelihood is there will be many who don't so his vote will be inflated and no-one will know by how much.

As regards Gaz his marketing firm(?) have already said it was them not him. If you believe that I can put you in touch with a Nigerian businessman who needs help to repatriate a lot of money and is willing to pay for your assistance.

I've just added Gaz on Snapchat to check it out and he's posted all of the housemates numbers. Damage limitation?

Whatever happens now, Scottie T can't win in the eyes of the public. This scam will follow him around like a bad smell.
