Slighty bored at work so deciding to keep it work related

How is your situation at work?

We have some local station on and sometimes Radio 1 but I have 2 particular collegues (over 40) who get in some sort of Terminator mode and run to the radio when something dance/EDM/house that takes too long or with huge percussion and synth noises comes along and then it is back to Heart FM with Ed Sheeran 700 times Thinking out loud or switched to such a low volume you might as well switch it off

Where I've worked before we sometimes have headphones on if we're in an office just typing and doing emails etc.

Other than that, its often local radio e.g. when I've worked in a shop, or once when I worked in a hotel, it was one Corrs CD every day.

I'm fortunate in that I work in an office three days a week, I work from home the remaining two, in the office my company have no problem with people listening to music on headphones if they wish.

If you're into jazz, this is worth having running in the background on your computer whilst you are working.

It tells you what is currently playing, from which album it comes and lists all the other tracks which will be played that day. Quite a diverse selection

Yes we're are also allowed headphones and I often do, but I sit in a set up with 2 people who never use them so it comes across a bit like "she's bored with us" which actually might be true

Where I work, the radio is in the production department and the ladies there insist on having it on Heart FM but i like most of the songs they play, even though this week I feel like I've heard Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac more times than any song currently in the top 10!!!

(and I love Everywhere but it's just...play something else!!!)

We start off with a radio station from Stoke because I hate the local equivalent and then rotate between Absolute Radio, Radio 1 and Kiss for the rest of the day.

I work in a stock room, so I get to play my own music out loud. Constantly updating my Spotify playlist.

CoolFM three days a week and themed days on the other two.

Themes for the other days have included Van the Man, Boy Bands, Modern Country, Dolly Parton, ambient..last theme was 'a day with The Corrs.'

we have same problem at work, if one of my colleagues gets in first it's kiss, which has to be the most awful channel there is, especially the idiots in the morning, one of which can't even speak english. If i get in we have planet rock on, although I would prefer Team rock. But that seems to have gone back to web only. Planet rock is a bt dad rock for my liking.

We normally have heart on, because some of the older folk complain if anything upbeat comes on if we switch to radio 1. That means it's the same 20 songs on repeat day in day out - including 80s/90s 'classics' that have no doubt been played multiple times per day for the last decade. Then it's whatever handful of songs are currently at the top end of the charts played 4-5 times per shift.

I used to take my i-pod in but was told I'm not allowed to wear headphones.

This has reminded me of years ago when I worked in the London Underground overhaul works and the hours were 7 till 1.30; there was a huge old valve radio up on the wall and only the Storesman ( with a capital S) was allowed near it to tune it. Mornings was radio2 and Ray Moore into Terry Wogan, then radio london for Tony Blackburn until 11 then it was back onto radio2 for the pips; news and Jimmy Young lol !
NO one was allowed near the set!

My mate drives a coach and ferries special needs kids to the day centre, and using modern technology he listens to jazzfm on his phone via tunein app, bluetoothed to the coaches stereo. Works perfectly. Havent things changed?
Great to hear that many posters on here can enjoy music at work. Makes for a more pleasant day in my opinion.

Most of the stores I've worked in have had instore music on the shop floor, frequently piped in through the store's own set-up (whether that be a CD rig or a satellite-sent company station with DJs). As I understand it, this is due to the licensing rules around broadcasting music and radio in public places. I'm led to believe charities aren't subject to the same restrictions and most of the now-closed charity stores I worked at had a radio for both customers and staff - in one store usually tuned to Radio 2, in another usually a now-defunct local station, and in a third frequently flipped, chosen by whoever got to the dial first that day (I even got what was then Xfm on for a couple of days, brilliantly!).
When working in the stockroom/warehouse area, if we weren't plugged into the same music system as the main store, we'd often have a radio or CD player kicking about to keep the workforce alert; at my current coalface there's a small pile of CDs and CDRs that staff have flung discs into over the years, though the weedy player's somewhat shoddy and won't always read home-burned discs, annoyingly including those I knocked up, and some staff now prefer to bring their own digital players...

Start off with Radio 2, until Ken Bruce's Pop Master Quiz has been on. (Since someone mentioned it, the Jingle does sound like Pop Bastard.)
Then over to Radio Manchester to listen to Mike Sweeney. Then 6 Music for Radcliffe and Maconie.

I'm lucky in that, not only can I have music at work (as long as it's not headphones), but I can also choose what it is.

As a result - and my fondness of music from that time - it's usually Absolute 90s.

I wear headphones. I'm right down the hall from the cafeteria and can sometimes hear their garbage music, so I use headphones and listen to music to stay focused.

Since I'm a programmer, I tend to listen to music without lyrics so it doesn't distract me, or if it does have lyrics, they're very low key.

Here's an example album I listen to at work:

múm - Finally We Are No One

Here's another:

(A) In Mono - Drying out the possibilities

I have radio on my table at work in the warehouse, so normally my choice, I do like a nice bit of variation.
8-9 Chris moyles radio x
9-10 magic (test of time) or heart time tunnel or tfm 2 golden hour.
10-11 tfm top 10 at ten.
11-12 kisstory, heat or absolute/80s.
12-1 bbc tees time of our lives( 2 guess the years.
1-2 magic 80s, tfm2 or absolute/80s.
2-3 tfms 2 o'clock anthems.
3-3.30 Steve wight golden oldies.
Absolute rest of the day.

A bit far fetched but a bit radio and guess the year obsessed, not short on variation for sure and day goes quicker.
