Iphone 6s battery life
Gregg-Pieman9

I have an Iphone 6s. Its great apart from 1 issue. Whenever it hasn't been used in a while the battery life goes from say 70% to 5% in only a few hours, yet when I use it constantly for apps the battery stays intact for that bit longer, any ideas why, Cheers

The obvious answer would be to check if there are any idle apps that are hammering the battery, but it does sound initially like the battery itself might be faulty.

I've got a 6s and it doesn't do anything like that.

I had this on my 6 Plus. I went though each of my install applications in the settings and turned off "Application Background Refresh". Been using my phone all day to day since 8 this morning and still on 84%.

I know this doesn't really help but I find kind of the opposite: since I switched from Android to iOS my iPhone lasts way longer if it's locked and I'm not using it compared to my Android, but loses a lot of battery when I actually do use it compared to Android.

Facebook is one app that for some reason uses a lot of battery in the background on iOS. But it could be another app too. To check your battery usage: Settings>scroll down to Battery. Then you'll see whether any particular app(s) are to blame. Hope this helps

The low power mode will obviously make it last longer as it turns off a lot of automatic stuff, changes your screen brightness e.t.c.. - it even reduces performance of the CPU and GPU apparently, and, according to this, actually reduces the speed of your phone by around 40%

Quote:
“Low power mode does a number of things to save battery power. It automatically changes some settings to save battery power, disabling automatic fetching of new mail, reducing your screen brightness, and automatically locking the phone and powering off its display more quickly. Apps can detect low power mode is enabled and choose to disable animations and other battery-hungry features, too.

Motion effects and animated wallpapers are also disabled. Background activities and networking are paused to prevent unnecessary power drain in the background. Your iPhone even automatically reduces the performance of its CPU and GPU, which makes it perform a bit slower but saves battery life. Tests have found that this slows iPhones by about 40 percent when low power mode is enabled.

Low power mode is fairly aggressive, which is why it isn’t enabled all the time. It’ll help you squeeze more battery life out of your phone when necessary, but you probably wouldn’t want to use it all the time.”

That sounds like a problem. Reboot the OS by holding down the sleep/wake button and the home button at the same time and keep holding until the Apple logo appears. If that doesn't help, let the phone run down completely until it turns off. Then charge it to 100% before unplugging the charger.

I have a 6s and it doesn't do that.

Whenever i've had this problem its been due to something trying to sync but not being able to. I normally just reset the phone.

Same here, Gregg.
I left my lovely new iPhone gold 6s Plus on overnight, 7 hours that is, and it went from 100%.to 24%.
Yet, if left on during the day it lasts a lot longer, depending on use.
Is this nighttime run down normal?
Not clear about the remedy suggested above if it isn't.

I've got a 6s and that battery usage does sound very abnormal. Even when I'm using my phone a lot it doesn't discharge that quickly. In fact I'd say my 6s is great on battery life considering I'm on it a lot watching videos and stuff.

Might be worth making an appointment with Apple...could be a fault with the device or the battery.

This may seem a daft question, but how do you put an iphone 6s on to silent. So I don't get bbc news updates etc, at inconvient times

Either by using the Do Not Disturb function or the Silent switch on the side
Or you could even just go into settings and turn off the sound notifications for any apps that that are causing issues.

It definitely sounds like something is using the battery in the background.

If I unplug my 6s from charge when I go to bed. Leave it ikon silent and in low power mode when I get up its still on around 95-100% (usually 99%).

If in doubt do an iTunes restore.

You should read the following article.

Our son had this problem and has just been back to Apple and they have replaced the phone for him free of charge.

Hope this helps.

I use this extra battery case for my 6s. It is half the price of the Apple version, looks better and unlike the Apple official product it has an off and on button. Apple one it just charges it each time you put the case on. It has doubled my battery and it is Mfi Apple certified. You only use one charging lead which does the phone and the case
