The best you could have expected was that your bet would be returned.
However, I am sure the reason Scotty's team issued the retraction so soon was that someone had a word with them about someone alleging a possible conspiracy to commit fraud.
It could have been alleged that they placed large bets on him when he was clearly in second place in the betting and then committed this act.
If it could be proven that this act was in furtherance of a betting coup then that would be an illegal conspiracy to commit fraud and charges could be brought.
Only the bookies could complain though, as only they are aware of betting patterns.
