At a guess I would suggest Liverpool have featured the most frequently, although more recent participants in the UEFA Cup/Europa League such as Spurs or Everton also crop up pretty frequently likewise Villa and Leeds who were more likely to crop up between 2000-2006

Also the late-night sports such as baseball and hockey I believe are lamented in some quarters. I used to enjoy their late night coverage of the Dutch, Argentinean, Portuguese and American leagues (MLS) especially. They also had a very brief stint showing Italian games as well, I think...and for one season also the Scottish League cup if memory serves.

In total I watched in excess of 350 games on the channel

In recent years the CSI franchise and NCIS: New Orleans (the other NCIS shows on Five are re-runs which I've already seen on Sky1 and Fox) are about the only things I've watched regularly on the channel.

C5 gave us the last airing of Prisoner Cell Block H and Sons & Daughters both in their entirety. I shall always be grateful to C5 for that.

Lately they gave us Chris Tarrant's Extreme Railways. A very good well produced programme. In fact this show was one of the highlights of the year for me (on any channel)

I hope it returns soon.

C5 have had some very good shows over the years.

Channel 5 has been terrible for at least 12 years now, the only worthwhile shows are Celeb Big Brother (civilian is awful) and Wentworth (which I watch online the day after broadcast anyway)

It's never been a great channel but back in the day it did have a certain novelty factor to it as it wasn't available to everyone but was a nice little alternative to the other 4 channels.

Yes it has an incredible position on the EPG which helps but if it really was as devoid of quality programming as is being made out, there is absolutely no way the ratings would be as strong as they are with all the competition there is these days on Freeview and other platforms.

Does anyone know if the continuity for Milkshake is done live? I think it was at one time, because I did the quiz show 100 Per Cent some years ago, which was recorded on a Sunday morning at Pearson TV in London, and they had the telly in reception playing Channel 5. About ten minutes after Milkshake finished I saw the presenter guy leave the building

I guess there wouldn't be any reason why they needed to do it live these days though, they could just record loads of links at once. (Unless they read out live tweets or something?) I think there's a clock on the wall but that doesn't mean anything...

I retch at the thought of The Jump on C4, and people watching it purely to see if some z-lister injures themselves on live telly in the context of a brash entertainment show. I don't need to watch 3 minutes of it every week to confirm its sheer awfulness.

No, no. The 10m that tune in daily aren't represented well on forums such as this one, which tend to get bogged down in C5 bashing that isn't constructive and very often lacking in substance.

Generally in life the satisfied customers you hear less from than the unsatisfied ones, and this is exacerbated in the world of broadcasting where content rules and unless like you or I you have a specific interest in this sort of thing, you are highly unlikely to comment.

This is very true. There have been a number of good documentary series on C5 over the last year but they're overlooked by those who believe there can't possibly be anything worth watching on C5.

Much of the blame lies with C5 itself for airing so many trashy programmes about benefits and things like "50 Shades of Granny", but if you look past that there are some much better programmes. Some I've enjoyed include:

Coverage was really patchy even in London, and my area couldn't receive it, so it necessitated two bus journeys to a friend's house to catch the incomparable Xena Warrior Princess on Saturdays at 8:00. People used to deride the channel as trashy then, but it seems positively highbrow in comparison to its contemporary incarnation.

Good list of some of the channel's strongest factual offerings in the past year or so. Doesn't really marry with some of the adjectives used to describe the channel in here like low rent, tacky, sensationalist, low quality, rubbish, terrible. The above programmes would not look out of place on a bigger channel.

People see what they want to see when they look at the C5 schedule, rather than what's actually there I think. It's a very broad station, and yet most frequently brought up in this kind of thread is Big Brother and benefits shows, which is highly convenient when labelling the network this, that or other and dismissing the entire network's output in a sentence or two.

Personally I find ITV more narrow in the audience it targets than C5. That's not to say they don't do a lot of worthwhile stuff.

Very important difference being that ITV is almost 100% domestic output with a lot of it expensive high quality for instance worldwide hit dramas like Midsomer or Vera. Until C5 can make anything their niche other than childrens programmes and a couple of event reality shows they can't compete with ITV or even C4.

When it first started I really enjoyed its through the night sports coverage of baseball, ice hockey etc. I was a student at that time so could stay up and watch it. I really miss their sports coverage

Apart from that, Fort Boyard, Emmanuelle, Jack Docherty Show, Jerry Sadowitz, Mike Allen (RIP), Kirsty Young sitting on a desk (concept stolen from CityTV Canada), Tim Marlow arts, Football, A Movie every night at 9, Milkshake, NCIS, CSI on a loop etc...

Family Affairs was much watched in this household, before that Jonathan whathisname ex producer from Coronation Street decided to shake things up and kill off certain characters. That was the last soap I watched and it was decent.

I really wanted the RTL Five era to work as it deserved to succeed as an upmarket channel, purely because of those North London hipster meeja types trashing it, and it almost did, before Desmond bought it out and drove it downmarket again. Currently there isn't much to celebrate as it is effectively Spike/Viva/MTV Lite with a guaranteed PSB slot.

I also liked that bizarre sci-fi show they used to show on Friday nights. Lexx i think it was?

Anyone remember Outthere? It was pretty cool in the era before I got a DVD player, and was hosted by someone dressed as a warrior/Amazon looking woman (?) or something and showed lots of clips from weird/exploitation/cult/action films
Then right at the end they would tell you where the clips were from.
