Restoring WhatsApp messages.

Hi all,

My mum somehow deleted my WhatsApp from my iPhone, and I've reinstalled it, but can't get my messages or pictures back.

I did'nt save them to iCloud, so that's not an option.

Does anyone know if there's any way I can get my messages/pictures back? Actually, not that fussed about the chats but would really like the pictures back.

Thanks in advance.

No chance. They're gone.

I know usually mine are backed up to Google Drive so I'm sure there must be a way it backs up to Apple Cloud somewhere?

I swapped across from my S5 to my works Note 4 a couple of weeks ago and installed WhatsApp and it asked if I wanted to recover all my messages from Google Drive (which I opted for and all my messages were there (had to wait until I was back on WiFi for the pictures and videos to be downloaded though)).

Just seen this for iPhone, but unsure if it's automatic?

Nope, I think because I've never used iCloud before it wouldn't have saved all the messages/pictures.

Yes, I don't think this is automatic. On my Nexus it saved messages automatically, so when I swapped phones my messages still came up when I downloaded WhatsApp again.

They may be saved within the backup of the iPhone in iCloud.
You could try restoring the phone completely - during the process you'll have a choice of backups to choose from. Pick one from a time you had WhatsApp working.
Phone backups are (AFAIK) enabled automatically and run when the phone is connected to wifi and plugged into the charger.

If I restore the whole phone, will I lose everything else like my text messages and camera pictures?

So I need to backup my phone on iTunes, and then restore it? But theres still no guarantee I'll get my pictures back.

No, you need to restore from a backup made before WhatsApp was deleted, otherwise it's a waste of time.

The way to do it properly is to save a backup of your phone as it is (don't overwrite he old backup). Then restore the old backup including WhatsApp then fire up WhatsApp & save all your messages to iCloud & set up automatic backups. Now restore the newer backup that doesn't include WhatsApp. Re-install WhatsApp & restore the messages from iCloud. Job done!

Only possible if the old backup was on iTunes (you can right click and Archive a backup in the settings screen in iTunes); you can't version iCloud backups.

As the OP mentioned that they had never used iCloud I assume that any backups must have been full backups within iTunes.

May not have used iTunes either, if so out of luck.

Unfortunately I haven't used iTunes with this phone, literally downloaded it yesterday

Looks like I've lost some pictures from the last week or so, but the majority were saved onto my Dropbox so I haven't lost them all.

Thanks for all your help though, much appreciated
