[Intro: Messy Mya]
What happened at the New Wil’ins?
Bitch, I'm back by popular demand

[Refrain: Beyonce]
Y'all haters corny with that illuminati mess
Paparazzi, catch my fly, and my cocky fresh
I'm so reckless when I rock my Givenchy dress (stylin')
I'm so possessive so I rock his Roc necklaces
My daddy Alabama, Momma Louisiana
You mix that negro with that Creole make a Texas bamma
I like my baby hair, with baby hair and afros
I like my negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils
Earned all this money but they never take the country out me
I got a hot sauce in my bag, swag

[Interlude: Messy Mya + Big Freedia]
Oh yeah baby, oh yeah I, ohhhhh, oh yes I like that
I did not come to play with you hoes, haha
I came to slay, bitch
I like cornbreads and collard greens, bitch
Oh yes, you besta believe it

[Chorus: Beyonce]
I see it, I want it
I stunt, yeah, yellow bone it
I dream it, I work hard
I grind 'til I own it
I twirl on them haters
Albino alligators
El Camino with the seat low
Sippin' Cuervo with no chaser
Sometimes I go off, I go off
I go hard, I go hard
Get what's mine, take what's mine
I'm a star, I'm a star
Cause I slay, slay
I slay, hey, I slay, okay
I slay, okay, all day, okay
I slay, okay, I slay okay
We gon' slay, slay
Gon' slay, okay
We slay, okay
I slay, okay
I slay, okay
Okay, okay, I slay, okay
Okay, okay, okay, okay
Okay, okay, ladies, now let's get in formation, cause I slay
Okay ladies, now let's get in formation, cause I slay
Prove to me you got some coordination, cause I slay
Slay trick, or you get eliminated

[Verse 1: Beyonce]
When he **** me good I take his ass to Red Lobster, cause I slay
When he **** me good I take his ass to Red Lobster, cause I slay
If he hit it right, I might take him on a flight on my chopper, cause I slay
Drop him off at the mall, let him buy some J's, let him shop up, cause I slay
I might get your song played on the radio station, cause I slay
I might get your song played on the radio station, cause I slay
You just might be a black Bill Gates in the making, cause I slay
I just might be a black Bill Gates in the making

[Chorus: Beyonce]
I see it, I want it
I stunt, yeah, yellow bone it
I dream it, I work hard
I grind 'til I own it
I twirl on my haters
Albino alligators
El Camino with the seat low
Sippin' Cuervo with no chaser
Sometimes I go off, I go off
I go hard, I go hard
Take what's mine, take what's mine
I'm a star, I'm a star
Cause I slay, slay
I slay, hey, I slay, okay
I slay, okay, all day, okay
I slay, okay, I slay okay
We gon' slay, slay
Gon' slay, okay
We slay, okay
I slay, okay
I slay, okay
Okay, okay, I slay, okay
Okay, okay, okay, okay
Okay, okay, ladies, now let's get in formation, I slay
Okay ladies, now let's get in formation, I slay
Prove to me you got some coordination, I slay
Slay trick, or you get eliminated, I slay

[Bridge: Beyonce]
Okay ladies, now let's get in formation, I slay
Okay ladies, now let's get in formation
You know you that bitch when you cause all this conversation
Always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper

[Outro]
Girl I hear some thunder
Golly this is that water boy, oh lord

/Seriously I don't understand any of that.

Brilliant at almost every level. And the symbolism in the video.....magic.

And she did it at Super Bowl.

What a load of rubbish! Beyoncé went down hill fast ever since she released that crap "run the world".

It's embarrassing to watch her now.

This is Beyonce at the absolute top of her game. She's shaken off once and for all the silly "single ladies/crazy in love" fluffy pop past and is finally emerging as a true artist now with real substance behind her.

I agree. There's no denying that she's a wonderful singer but a majority of her music is bloody awful.
Crazy In Love, Halo, Listen and Single Ladies were good...everything else...

If those lyrics posted at the top of this page are genuine then substance is the last word i'd use. Lyrically it's looks like something Fred Durst would write.

I've never seen opinion so divided in one thread. It's either 'she's at the top of her game' or 'she's gone so far downhill'.

The video and song concepts and execution are amazing for me. I love the fact that it is very embracing of her roots and culture, at a time when it was so needed. Black girls around the world have an anthem to celebrate them exclusively and that is a great thing. The politics highlighted in the video also enhance that statement and take it to another level. And then to go and perform something so unapologetically black at the Super Bowl? Yes Beyonce!!

I can't wait to see what she does next!

I think it's absolutely fantastic. With each album she's showing progression and becoming more creative. I really love this.

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm almost not sure we are all watching the same video.
Division of opinion like this is usually a good sign. For me, Beyonce has tried something genuinely artistic and relevant. I love the song and the video. i"m not going to pretend I get all the references but I get a lot of them and I like some of the visual cues as well.
It's great that some artists are not just about singing and dancing.

Too bad the lyrics with all the stupid stan culture references drag the song down and make it seem like a parody. The video is brill.

Have had this on repeat non-stop. Love the song and the video. Disappointed though that it looks like we won’t be getting the Mrs Carter Show released on dvd .

No, I don't think the lyrics do pull the song down, it's not Kendrick Lamar but it is a bold statement and the performance at Super Bowl was perfect.

I agree. I like some of her singles but other than that I wouldn't be much of a fan. My fave singles of hers are Naughty Girl, '03 Bonnie & Clyde, Baby Boy, Sweet Dreams, Irreplaceable, Upgrade U and Deja Vu. I don't like Crazy In Love much as it's overplayed too much. Her last album (the surprise released one) was ok and had some good songs on it. Run The World is simply horrendous.

There seems to be a curious lack of white dancers in the video. That almost seems like, what did Will Smith call it - "regression".

Thanks Soupietwist for posting the lyrics - how can people actually call them good!? Its not even in English!!! It doesn't make any sense at all, and no wonder why people are shouting about the political message because its not coming over in those lyrics at all. All I understood was that Beyonce slays people a lot (presumably she means being brilliant as opposed to killing everybody!) and that she takes her man to 'Red Lobster' when he has sex with her. Empowering? How?

I've not actually heard the song yet so can't comment on it, but reading those lyrics was painful.

Is that not the point? The experience of African-Americans particularly at the hands of law enforcement officers over the last few years has shown how little has actually changed. That is regression. The dancers wear Black Panther berets and form an X (Malcolm X) referencing the earlier 60s Civil Rights Movement. Black Lives Matter?

Here's a breakdown for those who doubt the quality of the lyrics.

Well it does make sense if you get the references. The majority won't get them though. Also the video does add to the political message massively.

I am a MASSIVE Beyoncé fan, I've loved every single thing shes ever released. But this is a huge steaming pile of crap! Like its actually awful...

I'm sad because on her last tour I was dying to see her and wasn't able to, and always said "next time I'll definitely see her!" but when it was announced I wasn't excited one bit. I think I'm going off her a bit, which saddens me because I love her so much.

I just seriously hope her upcoming album doesn't sound like Formation. To me it feels like a step back. With every album she has progressed, but Formation didn't feel like progression to me. She has talent she shouldn't be singing rubbish like that! If the album does follow suit I will be extremely disappointed.

I don't think it will be on sale at any point. It's a statement record so I'm guessing it will be a single. I don't know if she has any plans to release a single again actually as she has said plenty of times she's only interested in albums. We'll see though.

And as far as I'm aware the entire song is in English, so not sure where this different language concept is coming from. The references are not for everyone to get automatically, if you look deeper into the song/lyrics/song structure, there is actually a lot there i.e. the 'wake up!' heard in the background and the double meaning of the word 'slay' seeing as she's talking about black empowerment in the midst of so many unarmed young men being slain in the streets. That's made pretty obvious by the final shot of the video being her on top of a police car sinking in the water - down with police brutality and the baptism of black life in one shot - it's pretty striking.

It's not supposed to be automatically clear to everyone, sorry if people feel left out, but it's not like being left out of big moments in popular culture isn't the norm these days... Ask the Oscar Academy.

I knew as soon as I heard this it would split opinions, especially if your only into her pop side.

I really like this song. I love what it stands for, the message, the imagery in the video and that she got to perform this at the Super Bowl. It's all been on point.

Looking forward to what sound the album will have. Run The World wasn't representative of 4, so we never know.

Again, thanks for posting. It hasn't convinced me though. I think its Emperor's New Clothes syndrome, its drivel posing as something deep and meaningful. OK I accept there are some cultural references I didn't get until I read that article, but stinkers like 'you besta believe it', 'I got a hot sauce in my bag, swag' and 'I slay, hey, I slay, okay
I slay, okay, all day, okay' are some of the absolute worst lyrics I've ever heard... and I include stuff like the Cheeky Girls in that statement.

The joke is that the song is more pop than anything on 4 or BEYONCE.
