Does anyone remember this amazing show?

I was about 10 at the time it first broadcast on the BBC and couldn't believe it was an adult show - though I was absolutely riveted.

The Moldavian massacre. Krystle being kidnapped and replaced with a lookelikee. Alexis, Carrington/Colby/Dexter/Oompah Loopah/Add any other name you like. All those bubble baths. The countless long lost missing children. And those shoulder pads.

AMAZING!!!

It was a fabulously OTT show, but very much of its time which is probably why it doesn't get mentioned that much any more.

On another note, some clever person has made a compilation of some of Alexis' finest moments and it's great https://youtu.be/Jgby5Gj3wGY

I remember it well. It used to be on the BBC in the 80's at around 8pm on a Friday night - I watched it without fail. Everybody looked so beautiful in their glitzy clothes, and Joan Collins was fabulous as Alexis.

That fight in the attic beteen Krystal and Rita was hilarious.

Other than the Moldavian massacre that killed nobody important, is it really remembered for anything other than the cat fights?

People used to say that it was a Dallas rip-off but I really couldn't get away with Dallas. There was just something I didn't like about it.

Probably because it finished a quarter of a century ago.

Indeed. And wasn't classed as a soap anyway and threads can no doubt still be found (or even better, created) in the 'TV Shows - US' section.

There's actually a forum floating about where there is a lot of talk about shows like Dallas and dynasty. The majority of posters on DS Soaps would rather talk about what's happening in the British Soaps.

A lot of people on this forum weren't born when Dynasty was on Plus with an occasional exception soaps which are on now tend to be discussed rather than ones that were on years ago.

Dynasty was Ok but i could take it or leave it really preferred the Colby's out of the two but neither were a patch on Dallas loved that show and loved the late great Larry Hagman as JR Ewing probably the greatest character of all time.

Dynasty really suffered with the loss of Pamela Sue Martin.

I wish she had been in all nine seasons.

I never had an interest in Dallas (too macho) but I loved Dynasty where Alexis and Krystle ruled. My other faves were Fallon (original) and Sammy Jo.

There were some great storylines but the show was really weakened by the constant cast changes. Steven Carrington left and 'new' son, the long lost Adam, came in. Then Steven returned with a new face after a recast. Then Fallon left and the the long lost daughter Amanda came in. Fallon returned with a new face (but no memory) after she was too recast. Amanda was recast and the replacement so unpopular she was quickly axed and Amanda was never mentioned again. Then in the reunion miniseries, Adam was recast.

Dynasty had some great cliffhangers usually involving the lead characters in peril but rarely were there any shock deaths as they didn't want to kill off the leads. Like the infamous Moldavian massacre. The cliffhanger was great, but the following episode was a terrible flop with Joan Collins missing from the episode (striking for a pay rise) and its 'reveal' that Steven's supporting player boyfriend and guest star Lady Ashley (Ali Macgraw) were only characters to die.

It really was classed as a Soap you know - the official designation was 'Prime time soap Opera' as opposed to "daytime time Soap". Shows like Dynasty, Knots Landing, Dallas were also known as 'supersoaps'. There was even a book published, in the UK about them, with that title!

It was great, loved it then, still do now and rewatch reguarly.

I do think the issue is that it finished so long ago, this forum does seem to be more about current shows.

As Scrabbler says, there is a chat forum which has exclusive forums for all those big soaps, It's the only place i get to discuss them in depth but i don't think we're supposed to name other sites in case it is viewed as poaching members.

What, that's ridiculous! Does that mean DS mods can see 'private' messages then?

Send it in code next time instead.

Yes they can. They once asked me to confirm I was me after I locked myself out by giving some examples of what was in there.

Note to everyone, nothing you put online is private.

Actually I believe you can get computer software which automatically asterisks key words out, (ie key words you have programmed it to recognise, like swear words and other forum names etc). It's not that a mod sits there all day reading all the posts, private or otherwise.

Loved Dynasty, so much better than Dallas!

The 'final' episode was brilliant! It could have and should have ended there for fans to draw their own conclusions of what became of them all!

Would wounded Blake survive? Would Alexis & Dex survive that horrifying balcony fall? Would Fallon & Kristina get out alive?! Oh it was the mother of all Cliffhanger's!

Fallon's kidnapping by Aliens in The Colby's season one finale was epic! I'll never forget it and couldn't wait for the next series to begin!

Then came the the Dynasty Reunion which was rather disappointing, still good though! Alexis' mighty shoulder pads saved her from certain death! So many crazy and fantastic storylines it was indeed unmissable viewing come 8pm of a Friday evening. I have happy memories of watching Dynasty in early childhood! I loved the the kidnapping of Krystle storyline when she was replaced by 'Rita' and locked up in the roof of Sammy Jo's ranch!

Thank goodness for that! Not that I've posted anything I shouldn't of course

Btw ONJ, seeing as we're both on t'other site, a little warning I dearly wish somebody had given me, one of the members has currently got a different username, and to go with it, a truly terrifying close up of a tarantula, as I've just unfortunately discovered and almost passed out in horror from. Go on there with caution, I'm still trying to calm down and stop trembling.
