Do I need this automatic feeder for cats left on their own?

Subject to a home check this week, I will be taking in two rescue cats on Saturday. They are two brothers who love each other and were strays. They are house cats and the charity knows that I will be at work all day for 3 - 4 days a week. As I am not going to be there for their meals (well breakfast), I was considering getting two (!) of these:

https://www.sureflap.com/en-gb/pet-f...hip-pet-feeder

Now I know that would mean shelling out over £150 for two food bowls but I was wondering if it is a good idea so I can be safe in the knowledge both cats are eating? If I went for a standard set of bowls or an automatic feeder, one cat could still eat all the food.

I know it is a lot of money but do you people recommend it is something worth investing in?

Thanks

I feed my cat in the morning and in the evening when I get home from work.

I wouldn't waste money on it. As long as you explain feed them regularly and morning and evening is regular.

I don't think it's necessary either. Before I worked from home my two cats were fed morning and evening on tinned (wet) food and had a bowl of dry food down all the time for them to nibble on. Oh, and they did just fine!

So long as they eat twice a day they will be OK. Its what we do with our 10 cats.
If you want to spend that sort of money buy them some food treats from time to time.

No you do not need that.

You can get away with feeding a cat once a day if you need too, but most people feed before work and then again the evening.

I wouldn't get the sureflap in the first instance. If it turns out one brother is a greedy git it might prove useful.

My cat would not be happy if fed just once a day.

She'd soon give off.

Thanks everyone! Hopefully my home check on Wednesday will go well. It should do as I have been honest about my situation. I can see me spoiling these two!

I'm sure it will do.

As long as feed, give roof over head, look out for them and pamper will be ok!

My cat sleeps bed regularly or most comfortable seat house.

I'm sure you'll pamper and if ever unwell bring vets.

I love my Sureflap products. I have the microchip cat flap and the microchip feeder. The feeder proved invaluable when we had 2 cats that liked to graze on biscuits all day (without overeating) and a greedy cat that would eat whatever it could find. When we bought the feeder, greedy cat was no longer able to eat itself into oblivion

OP, I'd see how your 2 cats go before paying out for what is an expensive product. After observing them together, you will soon see whether one of the cats has a larger appetite than than the other one, in which case I'd thoroughly recommend a Surefeed. Previous to us having greedy cat, we just used to feed ours twice a day and if we knew we'd be out the house slightly longer, we'd leave a bowl of biscuits down.

Like others no need for automatic feeder my cat gets fed first thing then again at night and has a bowl of dry food available through the day.

I wouldn't worry to much about the home check, when I adopted my cat all they checked was that food/water and a litter tray was available and they where more than happy to leave him with me.

Although I think they were just so grateful I agreed to take him as he suffers badly with anxiety and as a result is very demanding for attention and needs a quite home. Which I was able to provide.

no, absolutely not, you dont need that feeder - if you were going AWAY for a couple of days then yes, an automatic feeder is a must (or a kindly neighbour to feed cats) but you certainly dont need an automatic feeder for when you are at work

feed them in the morning and then again when you get home

Same as I do with mine and they have their water fountain and they are fine .

Are there still loads of cats in Mandraki harbour up by the windmills? I remember leaving food there for them when I lived there.
