Does anyone else use this? we were advised by our dogs old trainer to try it, and started our dog about 3 weeks ago on the mature mix( she is 7), the chap weighed her and worked out her daily allowance which we have stuck to.during that time her coat has lost it's shine, her tummy seems bigger and she doesnt like to eat it, she often just walks away from it, and being a lab that is unheard of.
We are going to take her off it tomorrow and put her back on Chappie,has anyone elses dog had the same kind of reaction to it?

She also poops an awful lot more and is very agitated in the evening. She keeps asking to go out frequently and I am having to let her out twice in the night too, and she never usually does that,

Overall I am very disappointed in it.

Which one is it your feeding? As if it's the Trophy Premium Lite for weight loss and older dogs, it's likely that the cause is due to the ingredients. The first ingredient listed on dog food is what there is the most of in the food, and this one's first ingredient is ground whole grain yellow maize (corn). Maize/corn are used in dog food as cheap filler to bulk out the meal, they should not be making up the main part of the meal. There is little nutritional value in it, it's unnecessary carbs (like us, dogs gain weight with too many carbs) and it's very difficult to digest, which is why many dogs have upset digestive systems when fed on a food high in maize or corn and why there is a lot of waste- the dog is getting rid of most of it as there is little that is any use to it. A food with a lot of maize is not going to be very nutritious, certainly not fuel for a glossy coat and joyful energy levels!

If you want to keep her on this make, try the premium duck and vegetable or premium salmon and potato as both these are grain free. There's also the hypo allergenic one, which although has yellow maize in it, it's the third ingredient so there will be less of it.

Thanks for that yes thats the one she is on, we have decided to stop the Trophy all together, she was very happy on Chappie (lol) so we will pop her back on that today, a little wet food and some kibble.

I have never seen a dog change so much in 3 weeks , we did it as we were advised by the chap who came round that it was the best one for her, but it's changed her completely, so it has put us off the brand .

If your dog was fine on chappie (which I guess is true as you are switching back) then why did you go to Trophy? What does a dog trainer know about feeding dogs?

Vets recommend Chappie as it's low in fat and protein, is less likely to have anything to cause allergies in it and it's good for sensitive or upset stomachs, so if your dog was fine on it, and you were happy with it I'd be inclined to stick to it.


Most dog trainers should know a fair bit about feeding dogs as a lot of behavioural issues are linked to diet, which any professional trainer should know.

This site is pretty good for comparing different dog foods and finding out their ingredients and in what ratio.
