My mother used to have a lot of his records. I remember "Honey Come Back", "Try A Little Kindness", "Southern Nights" and "Rhinestone Cowboy". Classic songs.

Brilliant classics Jeannie

For me the song "Where's the playground Susie" was the most poignant song for me when my mother was losing her life.

Another was "The Everyday Housewive" .....again a real memory of the past that I'd prefer to be left behind

Aw. Sorry to hear about your mother., but yes, those are wonderful songs too. He made some really great records, didn't he? I don't know what happened to my mother's old records but I was thinking of buying a Greatest Hits cd. You've got me humming his songs now.

I love 'Galveston' and 'Wichita Linesman', both written by Jimmy Webb. Campbell was a great. Interpreter for Webb.

Great voice. He was also a highly in-demand session guitarist who played on records by Bobby Darin, Ricky Nelson, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, The Monkees, Nancy Sinatra, Merle Haggard, Jan and Dean, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Phil Spector. Even more amazingly, he was a member of the Beach Boys touring band and played guitar on Pet Sounds. Sadly he now has Alzheimer's.

[yes, I c&p'd some of that from Wikipedia but I remember seeing the name Glen Campbell in the list of musicians on the back of an album sleeve and thinking, is that the Glen Campbell? Of course it was]

I remember Glen Campbell..........I think at the time I'd have thought of him as one for the Mums not us cool teens and twenties.

But Wichita Linesman was a great record.

At the time my then girlfriend had a little dog called 'Honey' so that song resonated.....

Now that I'm getting on a bit I mix him up with Bobby Goldsboro who was around at the same time and sounded similar

His two best singles ^^ (imo).

He also recorded a splendid version of "By The Time I Get To Phoenix", another terrific Jimmy Webb song.

As has been mentioned, Jimmy Webb helped his career a great deal with the songs he wrote for him.
I remember Glen had a big falling out with Tanya Tucker.

To me, they did do an awesome job singing "Dream Lover" together.

God bless you and her and his family always!!!

Holly (a fan of Tanya since 1991)

P.S. A write up on her was in Country Weekly magazine not too long ago and in it, she talked about getting to see him sometime after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Because the sickness was already doing its thing with him enough, she said that he stared at the phone a lot while she was there with him and when she told him that she loved him before she left, she said that he picked up the phone and gave it a kiss.

I wouldn't disagree with that and I think 'Phoenix' was the first Jimmy Webb song recorded by Campbell. Both great musicians.

His final song "i'm not gonna miss you" is heartbreaking. The lyric being about not missing someone because he'll no longer remember them as he struggles with Alzheimers is beautiful and tragic.

Poor guy and his family.
My all time favourite song of his will always be Wichita Lineman though. A perfect song beautifully sung.

I can understand why you might like it, but it's nowhere as good as the original.
Over 22M hits.

I'm a fan of the original...but that's really great and up there with the best. Thanks for posting.

I remember hearing this one when I was about 12...was really wowed as until then I'd only ever really thought of him as one of those crooner types that 'old folk' listened to.

Indeed. I was probably in my prime in 1975 Yes, I remember at the time the Tanya Tucker relationship (for those not old enough I suppose Ms Tucker was a child Country superstar much like Leanne Rymes in her time and was of course a LOT younger than Mr Campbell). What i didn't know until I just read it was that relationship was clouded by Campbell's huge Columbian Marching Powder addiction. In fact he seems to have been a bit of a hellraiser in his earlier days.

"Ghost on the Canvas" is a fantastic album. His cover of "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" is also a great track.

I can remember Southern Nights as this was on the Convoy Soundtrack that my father owned. My father also owned one of his albums but I'm not sure which one.
